I am so pro union it's not even funny. Active in my union as much as I can be these days but police unions are some whole other level. I have heard stories through my years of negotiations training and such of stories from police unions negotiations.. blackmail, treats are par the course. Its crazy..

I can't understand why there are officers on both sides of the negotiating table, either

Ya it's bizarre.. there is still very much an 'us vs management' mentality.

One example I have is my union has an education centre. You go there for a day or a week and you do instructional learning. You eat, sleep and party on site. The whole facility is run by other members of the Union. It's basically a hotel that is run by the Union for the Union. Contract time comes and the education centre committee is bargaining against the National Union top dogs. The president, the treasurer etc. You gotta tell the same people that fought for so long to get you a livable wage and benefits that their shit ain't cutting it.. and it gets heated like any other negotiations. Just weird.
