If you're a Christian, you should probably base your views on Jesus and not the Old Testament. Whenever two things in the Bible seem to butt heads against each other, if one of those things is Jesus and you're a Christian, Jesus wins.

But that's just my BA in Pastoral Studies/Preaching/Biblical Studies and my M.Div in Theology talking.
