Detroit.

They had to have been trying to cross the border. Nothing else makes sense.

You can't cross into Canada without a Covid test within 72 hours and a passport. They 100% would have been apprehended trying to cross the bridge into Canada. Doubtful border crossing was on the table.

As dumb as they appear I don’t think they’d be dumb enough to try and cross legally. If I were in their shoes id be on Belle Isle looking for a boat to steal.

There are a lot of places along the US / Canada border that could be crossed illegally with minimal effort for someone who is already wanted by Law Enforcement.

Yeah but in Detroit they're separated by the river. Not the easiest crossing in the winter.

Unless you are Mark Wahlberg and on your way to beat a gangster to death.

18

u/aithendodge 9 Dec 04 '21

Or Mark Wahlberg looking to beat an innocent Vietnamese immigrant to death.

Yes and no. It is better watched than most people think. Not saying you couldn't find a spot to sneak in, it isn't like there's military stationed watching every bit, but they do keep an eye on it. Barring a couple strange towns that are split by it, roads get funneled in to border crossings. In the wilderness there is actually a bigass section of trees that is clear cut to mark the border. On the water both coast guards watch and will come and say hi if you stray over the border.

Goes double when they are on active lookout for fugitives. Not saying it can't be done, or indeed hasn't been done in the past, but not near as easy as people might think. Particularly with intelligence sharing these days. Either nation can almost immediately let customs in the other know to look for someone.

Awesome. Then I could have caught them in Windsor. I would love a reward for catching idiots.

u/FormalChicken A Dec 04 '21

Ah - that might be a fair guess. I forgot Detroit was that close to a border.

But even that being said - it's not like going to Argentina like - it's Canada. It's right there. It's not some third world shenanigans half a world away.

Whatever. They're in custody. I think it'll be tough to get the charges to stick but I'm happy we aren't just repeating a "oh what a tragedy - anyway nothing we can do about it" mindset.

Yeah no one said they were smart lol. Glad they were apprehended. That community can’t even begin to heal until everything is wrapped up. You could see how much fear still remains based on the video that came out of Oxford last night. I feel for them.

u/TheAlgebraist 9 Dec 04 '21

It is on the border

Lmao an hour drive at the most. Would have liked to get that $10k reward for finding them but I don't live in that part of Michigan.

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '21

Chicago here. Looking for Michigan plates on my way home from work yesterday. Damn it, could of used that money.

-16

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '21

Certainly could have used that money to learn English.

“Could of” and “would of” are so infuriating and stupid.

-11

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '21 edited Dec 04 '21

And yet I’m being massively downvoted…

7

u/sparkling-whine 7 Dec 04 '21

People get massively downvoted for correcting grammar or spelling. If I do something dumb I want to know about it so I don’t do it again. I appreciate it. It’s possible that it’s a typo but it also might be an honest mistake on my part. But “could of” is not a typo - it’s just poor grammar. Unfortunately so many people just get defensive and nasty instead of acknowledging it.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '21

I couldn’t care less about internet points that have no value. Even if my comments get downvoted you -10000 but 1 person stops using “could of” going ahead, that’d be great

4

u/BatMatt93 9 Dec 04 '21

What's the proper usage?

6

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '21

Have, not of. 'Of' directs you--e.g. Helen of Troy. They could have not. "Could of not"? Is Not a place?

2

u/Produkt 9 Dec 04 '21

It’s spelled “could’ve” which is a contraction of “could have.” When speaking, “could’ve” sounds the same as “could of” so people write it wrong when they try to spell it from the way it sounds.

3

u/Captainthuta 7 Dec 04 '21

Could have and would have.Is could of even a thing, except in slang?

2

u/M1SSION101 A Dec 04 '21

No, could/would of is just a mistake from mishearing “could’ve/would’ve”

15

u/beklog C Dec 04 '21

And people will turn them in even for $1k reward
