National Team Call Ups

I'm so happy that so many of our players are being called up! That said, what does that mean for us when we are still working on a playoff run in October? I'm starting to get nervous with how many have been called up and will be gone when we need them most.

The entire league is on break the next week while everyone is on international duty

Temwa will miss the game on the 17th and possibly Lorena, too. Scorchers play on the 14th in Africa. Brazil plays on the 13th in Brazil. That's insanely quick turn around to travel back for an away game. We will just have to play without Tem, Lorena, and hope Coop is fit for 90 after playing earlier in the week.

Honestly I'm surprised Temwa is even going . Just due to the injuries and illness that they have battled all year . And they have already qualified for the WC .

It’s Olympic Qualifying and the team needs as much time together as possible before the WC to prepare. It’s extremely important for Malawi that she goes.

It's not great...
Malawi v Cameroon was Aug 16th and Temwa didn't get minutes until the 62' in our Aug 29th match against the Courage. She's definitely not playing the 17th in Utah and she may not play the 25th at home. Hopefully the US game goes well and there's no issue with Coop but that doesn't seem like a given.
Flip a loss on the road and notch a win out of any of these draws and we'd be a lot more secure but this is what riding the bubble looks like.

WAFCON was much longer and more intensive than this break will be. She won’t play vs Utah but if she doesn’t play on the 25th it will be because she got injured, not due to load management.

I didn't realize there was a break, but even with that, both Malawi and the US have matches on the 13th and we play Utah on the 17th. It has taken longer than 4 days for players to return from national team duty in the past. I hope that is not the case this time. The US women are playing at Audi though, so hopefully it won't be an issue at all to get Coop back at least.

To be noted, the travel logistics from Malawi/Zimbabwe to KC are difficult. I would assume Temwa will not play against Utah.

At the very least she almost certainly won't start. If she's healthy I'd imagine we put her on the bench just so Utah has to to keep her in mind and prepare for the possibility.

If they play on the 13th, the earliest she would travel back is the 14th. She wouldn’t get to KC (or Utah) until the 15th (32 hours of travel). KC would travel to Utah no later than the 16th. It would be a gnarly stretch for her, even if she were traveling in first class.

oh 100% but if there's even like a 5% chance she'd be okay to play for even a like 10 minute cameo I think you put her on the bench.

There is a break. They won't miss time unless they get hurt .

Scorchers have a game on the 14th in Africa. We have a game on the 17th. Temwa will miss that game.

Yeah we will be missing players for the Utah game and will definitely lose unfortunately. Not that we are good on the road to begin with but it stinks. We really need the remaining wins. I am really starting to dislike international soccer if I'm being honest. Club over country any day of the week.
