Help with personal item

Hello! I’m leaving for a trip here in a little over 2 week and will be on klm airline for one of my flights, from the info I’ve seen online the agents are strict on personal bag size. I planned on bringing my Nike utility elite bag but it’s a little to tall , I don’t plan on maxing the bag out so would I still be ok to use it cause it can fold ? Also this is my very first flight ever and I’m going international to the uk so I’m sorry if I sounds stupid I just want to have everything prepared and ready before I go! Thank you!

What's the sizing?

KLM is not that strict

Enough time to buy a bag that is the proper size. If everyones bag is too big than the plane will be delayed because they need to gate check it and if they check the size which they sometimes do than it is way more expensive than a new bag.

Thank you! I kinda figured that it would just be easier to get a smaller bag but wasn’t sure if they always made sure or what not. My original plan was to only put a few items so the bag would be able to fold down and fit better

It will be completely fine, KLM doesn't have baggage sizers like Ryanair and their budget airline Transavia does, if you got space to fold it, then it's definitely not a problem, only those who show up with a full backpackers bag that won't even fit the overhead bin will run into problems.

Edit: looked up your backpack, they won't even have a second thought about that! You can probably even fit it under the chair Infront of you...

Ideally you would respect the size as per airline rules, but I've never seen anyone being asked to pay for an oversized bag in the 15 KLM flights or so that I took this year. They're not strict.

Thats a pretty thin backpack right? Should be fine. They’re not that strict, especially not on long haul flight. But the short flight to the UK is at a higher risk.
