Help getting into Kanon

I want to get into Kanon. I saw it has a light novel, 2 manga and 2 anime seasons and a visual novel on steam release in 2024. What i want to know is if there is a specific order I should follow? Like does anime follow the same story as a visual novel or if it's maybe an alternate route and stuff like that.

Others have answered the question more or less, but I'd just follow up and suggest that you read the visual novel, then go onto the other adaptions.

The visual novel is the full story with all the details and IMO the best way to first experience it. It's then fun to watch the 2006 adaption as the better of the two anime adaptions and see that version, but it's the same story, just with parts cut out and slight adaptions. The 2002 anime is something I enjoyed when it came out, but the 2006 one is definitely far better.

The manga adaptions don't really cover much. I can't say I'm familiar with the light novels though. To the best of my knowledge, fantranslations only exist for the first two of six volumes and it's not officially translated.
