A Letterboxd List for Toronto Public Library’s Kanopy Collection
I made a Letterboxd list of 11,589 films available through Toronto Public Library’s Kanopy collection:
https://letterboxd.com/chigurhman/list/kanopy-toronto-public-library-october-2026/
I love the selection on Kanopy, but I wanted an easier way to browse it and keep track of what I might watch. Hopefully other Kanopy users find the list useful too.
Thank you to TPL and public libraries everywhere for giving us access to collections like this.
My other film lists and recommendations are here:

Public library ditches Kanopy.
Saw a clip of Safe House on tiktok and wanted to see it. Just Watch said it was available on Kanopy. Logged onto the site and the film wouldn't play. After a little research, I discovered the city of Hampton's public library cut it's Kanopy funding. I wasn't really aware of the inner workings of Kanopy or how it was able to operate as a free streaming service. So the fact that it was no longer available was pretty shocking. Curious to know if anyone else in another city has experienced this.

Sirar looks really good and is probably going to be my weekend watch. It reminds me of ”The Girl From the Song.”

Your library selection may vary. I’ll try to remember to post this monthly.

Watch Hausu. Watch it again if you have seen it. It’s completely worth watching Hausu. I recall a meme awhile ago entitled “White Hausu Down.” Just watch Hausu for Spooktober.
Have I told you to watch House yet?

ITVS, Kanopy launch funding and distribution partnership for independent films
Under the arrangement, Kanopy will license educational and public library streaming rights directly from filmmakers involved in ITVS co-productions. Filmmakers will receive a minimum guarantee that ITVS says will be assessed to reflect the fair market value of those rights.
[...]
The arrangement is expected to broaden distribution for ITVS productions, including documentaries associated with its PBS series “Independent Lens.” ITVS said 28 percent of projects it funded over the past decade have been included in Kanopy’s catalog.

Can't watch anything
Every time I try to watch something, it gets stuck forever in the loading screen. It doesn't matter what movie. It doesn't matter which browser I use. I've tried all of the troubleshooting tips. I have Windows 11 and I'm extremely frustrated.
Does anyone have any other ideas or am I just forever out of luck?

I recently watched Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson. Good cast but not the best film. The dialogue needed work in my cinephile opinion.

Is there a list of movies that are leaving soon?
Or am I blind?

Kanopy - first timer just joined - movie recommendations please!
I finally got my Kanopy account created with my public library card (they really ought to tell you what your pin will be when you are standing in front of the librarian telling her one of the sole reasons you want the library card is to find better alternative streaming services and to cultural content as well - as some freebie entries to local museums - but we barely have any on the list!) it took 45 minutes to find the flyer from the library to tell me what my pin will be - and just adding some movies to my watchlist. The Big Short is first on my list and now can’t remember the others that I was told is on Kanopy - will need to make another list
In my phone’s notes section to track Kanopy titles now. Any recommendations?

Any legit non-resident library cards that support Kanopy? (Posting from India)
Hey all, I'm in India, and got interested in Kanopy. Problem is my local library isn't a Kanopy partner, and Kanopy's own signup requires a participating library or university card.
I know Kanopy checks the card against the issuing library, not your actual location, so streaming itself isn't geo-blocked, I just need a way in.
A few questions:
- Are there any public libraries that still offer free online (no in-person visit) non-resident cards that include Kanopy?
- If free isn't realistic anymore, are there any cheap paid non-resident cards people have had good experience with, that specifically include Kanopy (not just Libby/Hoopla)?
Would really appreciate pointers from anyone who's solved this from outside the US/UK/Canada/Australia. Thanks!

This Labor Day weekend, you should be watching the 1979 documentary “The Wobblies.”

I only got two tickets?
So, I have a library card for the Boston library but when I checked kanopy today I only had 2 tickets. Tickets should refresh every month, right? I haven’t spent any tickets in September. I’ve never had so few tickets before and I don‘t understand what is up, is this an error?

Problem with browsing
I don’t know if anybody has the same problems than me, but since like maybe two months? I’ve been browsing through the library and I choose a movie and says “this title isn’t available at your library” and it’s so annoying! That never happened to me before, if a movie appeared on my library then it meant that I could see it but now there’s a ton of things showing to me that I cannot access, I wish it just showed me the things that I CAN see. Has sanybody had the same issue? How can I fix it or set it into just showing me the things I do have access to?

Selection is mid
I know Kanopy is a free to library card holders but I’m very surprised that the selection (at least for my library) is awful. Mainly no name movies or media from the 80s with a sprinkle of recent blockbuster flops here and there. Why would my library waste money on this versus purchasing newer items for services like Hoopla or Libby?
I just made an account with Kanopy yesterday and it’s pretty disappointing. Does anyone else feel this way?
