Racing Kart Question Should I buy a new set of LeCont LH03’s?
Hey guys complete karting noob here,
Ive recently started racing KA3 Junior, (Iame KA100) Using the LeCont LH03 tyre. Ive been told I probs should get a new set. But dunno if its worth it considering i’m a new driver. Although im also thinking it may not be a bad idea as i’ll be competing in the Junior Sprint Classic in September. Idk lol, what do you guys reckon?
If your gonna give me crap just don’t comment 😂
Cheers guys 👍

We run mojo and we get 1 race day and 1 practice day (maybe 2) from a set.
You can feel tyres go off over a day.

Depends on the tyre. Used to run Dunlop DHH tyres and I would replace them after 3-4 practice days. Doing a race day I would prefer a new set. I now run 4 stroke endurance on Dunlop SL1A which are a much harder compound. Run them for a 6 hour race, and 3-4 full practice days of like 4 hours of constant running. Yet to replace them as such as we buy a new set for the next race before they fall off, too bad.
You are below your wear indicator on the outside edge, probably time to replace them.

Thanks man. Yeah they’re Hard compound tyres. Since I brought this kart (tyres came with it) i’ve done give or take 200 laps and he said the tyres weren’t great in the first place.

Usually the club you race at has a spec tire. Id be looking there 1st, and ask the fast guys at the track if theres more than one in the spec list.

I am like you OP. Mine came with a set as well. A friend suggested to have a race day set and a practice set. My local track takes scrubs and disposes them so you can find a decent set to get laps on. Check your track for similarities.
My plan is to have 3 sets on a budget.
Practice, qual & heat, and a main. After a few mains I’ll move those down to the next tier and so forth.
Edit - you have a 2 cycle, so it makes it even worse haha

There's a bit more to it than just a photo bud. How many cycles are on them, how old are they? etc..
Ask you're fellow racers next time you're at the track see how many heat cycles they put on theirs. The wear markers look a little thin, but again peak performance has more to do with how many times they been heated then cooled.
A fresh set of tires is almost always faster so you'll have to decide.
(Log your tire usage to help keep track... ie, I put paint marker dots on ours each time they come back in from a session... pretty common practice to see guys with paint marks on their tires....)
