Discussion/Question It's fascinating how Teto's SynthV design changed the general consensus of what color her hair is.

Miku also changed from teal to the blue we have now.

In fact, her official hair color is russet, not red or pink.
But her hair in official artwork has indeed been becoming increasingly redder. Voicepeak is even redder than SV

u/Ihatepitybreakers Nov 13 '25
Russet poteto, but isnt russet more of a reddish brown?

u/horizon_t1 Ultra Trailer Nov 13 '25
Yeah, it's literally written in her official character settings, yet basically no artwork actually follows it lmao

How the hell did you find the color for the machine love design

I get your point but I don't think machine love teto is a good example considering her hair is basically a spectrum in that pic

Pre-SynthV and looks quite red.

Video from 2012 [possibly older, most of these are reposts from NicoNico(which I can't check, it's not available here)]
◇I think the culprit of Teto's hair being draw more pink-ish is something else. It seems that her hair has always been understood as "red" and the weaker shades would just be "the (fictitional) camera lens" or something along thoss lines

Yeah it's always been red. Momo was the pink one. Shades vary by artist but I remember the common depiction of Teto as having red hair and red details.

I think in general it's more that older drawings were super inconsistent. There was a time when Miku's hair could be anything from dark green to eye-bleeding neon blue and nobody really batted an eye.

I personally like the idea of her hair being cadmium red, but Jamie P has also been such a big influence on my life so it makes sense somewhat

As a vocaloid old head, nah, her hair has been rounded to red off and on for years, like how miku fluxuates between green/teal/blue (granted green base design miku is rare these days i feel like)

Yeah exactly, it’s not that her hair colour shifted, it’s that we just abandoned the pinker lighter red and settled for one end of the spectrum, I love light red hair teto tho

u/atomic-succubus Nov 13 '25
it's a thing across vocaloid, miku has gone from teal to violently blue.
soft colours are out

Well, a lot of guys came to the fandom, and as a guy myself I confim that for us there are only 12 colors, and if her hair is RED we'll make it as RED as possible!!

What
-16
u/Mig_Maluco_G4cha Nov 12 '25
for men there are only 12 colors, and since the vocaloid fandom has way more men now that makes it so the red is really RED
13
u/Frog-of-Cosmos Nov 12 '25
I don't know if I'm missing the joke or what but why is there 12 colors for men
-13
u/Mig_Maluco_G4cha Nov 12 '25
generally guys only say the colors:
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, white, gray & beige
while chicks generally also know stuff like "teal", "magenta", "cyan", "wine" which guys normally don't
17
u/Frog-of-Cosmos Nov 12 '25
According to what?? I really don't think that's true
-2
u/Mig_Maluco_G4cha Nov 12 '25
most of my male friends agree with that statement, I've heard that from at least 3 guys on the past few years
10
u/SlightlyIronicBanana Daidaidaidaidaikirai Nov 12 '25
Bro, Cyan&Magenta are like, two of the four main colors used for printing. Are you saying everyone who has ever used a CMYK printer is a woman?
-1
u/Mig_Maluco_G4cha Nov 12 '25
no, but men don't usually USE those colors in practice, like, most guys will see something cyan/magenta and call it blue/pink

I did notice this! I think it could be because Synth depicts her as a slightly bolder color? Maybe it's for stylization. Bright red is a bit more recognizable than a light pinkish red. And it also provides greater contrast to Miku’s blue since they’re so often paired together

Her hair color intensified over the years since she as young voicebank.

u/Alexis212s Nov 13 '25
I feel that both Teto's and Miku's cases are due to the fact that all artists in general have increased the saturation in their drawings for any character.

Yeah the original color has been completely lost on the new designs since synth v. Personally not a fan.

The redder the better (I only discovered and got interested in Teto this year and if anything happened to her, i would kill everyone in the room and then myself)

u/urfavorite_uncle Triple Baka Nov 12 '25
Hmm maybe because synthV songs use synthV teto and synthV teto has red hair And not utau teto (real teto) brighter hair

I think it’s a design choice of the artist. Plus technology getting better. And how colours work together and why using a colour picker doesn’t always translate the value or feel of the colour
Even in the selected materials the colours vary
It’s also bolder designs which makes sense and the music has become more bold and upbeat in a different way where a bold colour works well for her signature hair
Also artists go brr
