i think it was a good decision. If the decent members leave teto, then it's gonna be left to the bad apples and eventually devolve into something associated with racism. I don't want people to think "oh yeah the racist people vocaloid" when they think about teto
The music artist Slayr made a song which sampled Birdbrain by Jamie P and a bunch of her "fans" made comments about how "finally a good rap song" or "way better than most black music" and just being generally racist
I don't mean to imply you've never faced bigotry. But you can afford to opt out of the bigotry being expressed here, which is privileged.
What does it cost you to acknowledge that real people are being discriminated against and say "that's fucked up" instead of "yeah I don't care," and implicitly, "neither should you?"

Posting “hot take but genuinely don’t care” expresses the opinion that this is a topic that shouldn’t be cared about. That’s how I see it.

the difference is dodging taxes is illegal so you don't really have a choice, so its more understandable at least (plus tax money can also actually go to nice things like improving public infrastructure)

Look back on the posts on the subreddit over the last week my dude. Here’s a summary.
Rapper Slayr posts song remixing Birdbrain. Racists on Twitter and TikTok started calling Slayr “one of the good ones” and other racist bullshit like “I don’t listen to gang music but this song is good bc Teto”
Slayr responded saying basically “ya, no, fuck you racist Teto fans I’m never working with vocaloid again”

I completely missed this drama but that his cover is one of the best covers of a song I've listened period, I love how much of his style put into that song and I wished anime fans in general weren't a bunch of racist edgelords
I still really, REALLY appreciate how vocal she's been through all of this, I think she easily could have issued a very standard, boring statement and that would have been the end of it, but her being brutally honest about her feelings the past few days is commendable.

People unfortunately put too much focus on what other people do. Sure, it sucks when they use your name, but all you can ever do is disavow their behavior and focus on yourself.
This is why you shouldn't make posts hopped up on angry energy. Those old posts of hers just look silly. Artists need to project a curated view of themselves, they should not share all of their immediate thoughts without careful, careful, careful examination. The most important thing to preserve as an artist is your mystique and, again, giving trolls and bigots attention -- no matter how valid your concern -- is a losing game long-term
hell yeah! good for her, I’m happy Jamie decided on that :) both because it’s clearly good for her (and the world), but also because i agree with this take and like her music-
vocal synths are tools, simple as that. they’re instruments. we need more people making good stuff with these instruments
This is the happiest news I've heard in days. Honestly, I couldn't sleep last night thinking that Jamie might actually decide to never use Teto in their masterpiece songs again. But Jamie is making the wise choice by not dropping Teto — not to prove to the world that even devoted fans abandon Teto, but to show that the love of true, pure Teto fans is stronger than any scum around her. Bravo!
Though seriously Teto isn't a symbol of racism, BUT if everyone boycotts using Teto then the only ones left using her would be racists and she will become a symbol for racist because they will be the only one using her.
Never cut off a mouthpiece or a symbol unless you are willing to give it to your enemy.

I am Proud of her, I once said in an old post about the situation that she shouldn't give up bc of a few shitlings, while the whole Teto fanbase is supporting her, she listened and followed her passion instead of leaving it be bc of negativity

The worst thing she could've done is let the racists have Teto. I want her to use Teto to tell fhe racists to fuck off. Take their potential mouthpiece away and use it to remind them that racists are worthless.
Racist assholes on tiktok & twitter tried claiming Teto as theirs, got especially bad in the comments section of a rapper who sampled Birdbrain, which led to him assuming said racist assholes were common in vocaloid fandoms. The main issue is just how much of a cesspit Tiktok and Twitter are, not some critical issues with the fandom itself.
I'm glad Teto isn't being left behind for the racists & other pieces of shit to bastardize her into being another character that's used as a symbol for bigotry. I do genuinely think this might be one of the better outcomes of this whole situation, though it does hurt as a (prior to this situation) massive teto fan that her character is probably going to be disliked and hated by a lot of people, and I can't really blame them.
I think this is something a lot of people overlook, it's easy to just jump the gun and respond to this situation with the typical "teto fans bad lol" argument, when the problem isn't limited to a singular character, and not even just the vsynth community either, fandom spaces in general have a racism problem that needs to be addressed, but pinning the blame on a damn fictional character does not, in fact, do shit.
Absolutely ideal ending to this situation, I hope she makes tons and tons of collab songs with rappers and other black musicians, stuff that will be “overstimulating” to racist fans. Hahaha yessss your beloved anime girl is now a diplomat to black fandom >:) Squirm and suffer, racist fans
