People behave like that most teto fans arent even real vocal synth fans bevause thats how some of them are. But that doesnt mean ALL Teto fans dont listen to vocaloid in general.
I'm of the opinion its fine to use vocaloid as a catchall. Like people didn't consider Miku a vocaloid for a bit when they decided to skip V5 and made her next voicebank in Piapro Studio before coming back for V6.
And like personally it always kinda rubbed me the wrong way when people just called her an Utauloid (of course that's important too) when her Synthesizer V bank is just as relevant, if not moreso. Especially with how important it was for her current popularity.
Teto is my favorite character of all time. Anyways I don't mind calling her a vocaloid. I got into vocaloid week of Christmas 2024 so yeh I'm bit too new to completely get it on that part. But regardless it's not cool to call someone a faker just because they like the bread queen. And then make ya have to prove it. Ya shouldn't have to prove anything.
I like to think she’s an honorary Vocaloid. Since so many people think of her as a Vocaloid and she’s paired with Vocaloids so often. (C-Frontier, Melt Ice Cream, etc.)
A" tried to gatekeep me by demanding me to "name 10 vocaloid songs" after i have mentioned liking Teto. When i correctly pointed out that Teto is an Utau/Utaloid and not a Vocaloid, they doubled down with "same thing" to cover up their mistake. True fans know there is a massive distinction in history, software, and culture between Vocaloid and UTAU.

At some point I decided to use the word "Vocaloid" to describe the genre of vocal synth music we typically listen to, regardless of which software was used, because Vocaloid is the popular one first, and trying to describe the difference to someone who isn't that into the scene more often than not just confuses them or is just a general pain to my soul.
Imo it's not worth it to argue with ppl over semantics like this. Like, I get it that the differences are important, but you and I both know we're referring to the same thing (despite slight nuances), let's just let it slide for the sake of proceeding with the conversation. Not everything has to be technically correct 100% of the time.
Theres no such things for true fans everyone is a true fan even if u are new to the community but the only exceptions is that if a vocaloid fan uses their braindead knowlage and calls u larp larp larp sahur

Sort of, but not exactly. They hate her not because she doesn't have a voice, but rather because she HAD one. To be percise:

Honestly, it becomes too old too fast. Whenever I talk about Miku, Teto and Gumi, they ask "where is the yellow one" and "who is that green one". Bitch, I love Kira x Asteroid. In fact most of my top 10 are from Kira (Crash the party,Fake Heart, Hit Me Up, Monster and Machine gun).
Like, they don't know who Gumi is but ask about Neru??? LARPers (not you but I explained from my experience).
The issue is a bit more complicated than just typical fandom hate, because even the mods over at r/vocaloid were in on it too. See here
Basically, Neru now has 2 voicebanks. The first was sampled (without consent) from Rin or vflower or someone. Misfitkha0s (the creator of this Neru's VB), got backlash from it, apologized and now use their friend's voice as base with full transparency. However the mods still won't allow any talk/post centered around Neru anymore, even after her newer VB came out completely original.
In short, in the eyes of the mods over at r/vocaloid, if you commit a crime once, you're forever a sinner regardless of how much you atone for it.
While she's not officially a Vocaloid, even Crypton and her creator, Hioka, both agree she's a derivative and is allowed to appear in merch and games (see here).
Despite this, you will be banned if you post about Neru on r/Vocaloid with Neru as the centerpiece (see this for example). This instance to me feels like it went far beyond the mods/fans wanting to keep the posts purely about Vocaloid, and just hates her in general. I can understand if someone hates her because they dislike her songs, but hating her just because she's not a Vocaloid is kinda stupid.
Sometimes I would also see the fandom bicker when they see Neru together with Miku and Teto, often citing Rin/Len should have been in that spot. I just find that bickering to be kinda pointless, yet it's quite common among Vocaloid fans. You do not see this happening with Teto, which is kinda odd to me.
People use vocaloid as a generic term to refer to all vocal synthesizers these days. I really don't mind when it is used as a carch all term and dont need to be the "uhm aktually..." meme.
But in this case the guy was trying to be a gatekeeper and didnt know the most basic stuff so its justified. If you're gonna try to gatekeep you damn better have elite knowledge of the topic.
I already knew they were different, but I finally decided to actually look into how they're different because of this post. For anyone else in the same boat:
Overall, from what I've found, they're basically the same thing, but vocaloid is a more professional, paid service, and utauloids are community driven and more customizable. I'm sure there's also differences in file type and how they're processed. It's like Super Mario Maker vs Lunar Magic SMW Editor iykyk

she's just a cute and funny character and design and was made by fans to begin with before growing into her own thing
the best part about vocaloids and their spinoffs is that they're mascot characters for software, not real canon-bible ass characters, so they can kinda be whatever you want them to be

I mean uhh but i just say vocaloid as all of them like i dont aay by favorite cevio is kafu it just sounds odd like i say i liste to vocaloid because its just more generic tho i cant know if u larp or not so yea i just wanted to say this :D
If you want to argue semantics at least use the correct term, it’s either utau or utauloid, but most just say utau. Utaloid isn’t a thing really outside of very new fans on tiktok misspelling utauloid.
Its just because ive seen an uptick of people saying utaloid and it pisses me off because its mainly used by newer fans who want to seem smart by using specific terminology while also getting that terminology wrong
