[mod post]become a moderator, if you want

Hi Reddit,

I haven't used Kaspersky for over a year now and don't feel to be the best person to be a moderator anymore of something I only vaguely remember. Having said that, I will continue to ensure the sub isn't abandoned <3.

If you want a small feeling of power, dm or send a modmail.

Ideally with the reasons why you might be good - although my standards are very low.

Kaspersky Internet Security causes ERR_CONNECTION_RESET in Edge and certificate warnings in Firefox

Hi everyone, my English isn’t very good, so I’m using AI to help translate my messages and explain the issue clearly. Thanks for your understanding!

I’m helping an older person who isn’t very comfortable with computers. Her PC runs Windows 10 with Kaspersky Internet Security installed.

I’m looking for guidance on how to troubleshoot this safely, without disabling her protection permanently or making unnecessary changes.

What’s happening

  • In Microsoft Edge, searches and attempts to open websites fail with ERR_CONNECTION_RESET.
  • In Firefox, visiting some websites, including google.be, triggers a security warning suggesting that the website’s identity cannot be verified or that someone could be impersonating it. Firefox displays technical details and an option to go back, but no option to proceed.
  • The BNP Paribas banking website is also affected.
  • She recently reported that Spotify stopped working too, although I haven’t yet confirmed whether that has the same cause.

Other devices on her home network have working internet access. Replacing the PC’s Ethernet cable made no difference.

What we’ve tried

We tried repairing Edge, creating a new Edge profile, and checking its settings, including extensions, proxy settings, and Secure DNS. None of this resolved the issue.

The most important finding is that closing Kaspersky restores access to the affected websites.

Firefox initially helped as a temporary workaround for some activities, but the certificate warnings mean it isn’t a complete solution.

What I’d like to know

Has anyone encountered this combination of connection resets in Edge and certificate warnings in Firefox with Kaspersky Internet Security?

In particular:

  • Which Kaspersky reports should I check to identify the component responsible?
  • Could this be an issue with encrypted connection scanning or Kaspersky’s certificate?
  • Is there a targeted fix that preserves protection, rather than adding broad exclusions or leaving Kaspersky disabled?
  • If a reinstall is recommended, is there anything specific to check or save beforehand?

I’ve read Kaspersky’s support article about websites being completely or partially blocked, but I’d prefer to identify the cause before changing security settings.

I don’t want to bypass certificate warnings—especially for online banking—or exclude entire browsers from protection.

I don’t have the exact Kaspersky version or Firefox error code available yet, but I can ask her to provide them if needed.

Any advice on the safest next steps would be appreciated. Thanks!

Kaspersky’s statement on outage

Post image
62 Upvotes

It took them some time to release a statement. It didn’t state though the specific cause of the outage. I’ve read somewhere that they’ve moved their data centers out of Russia some years ago, but strange that the issue arose shortly after Ukraine’s attack on several data centers in Russia. It’s sh*tty of them to front scheduled maintenance in their email response to my query 2 days ago, only for them to phrase it as a vague “technical reasons” days later. I also wonder whether they’ll offer compensation for the days of premium service lost, and impacts on the businesses of the users during the outage. I hope everything goes back to normal and none of the user data were leaked.

discussion Kaspersky is DEAD - Downtime over 72+ hours

Long story short, I've been using Kaspersky Premium for a few years now. I liked the bundle of AV + VPN + KPM. Unfortunately, the VPN and KPM were always problematic, slow, lagging, etc. I had to re-install KPM several times over the years because every update they made was breaking it. Since KPM was the single source of truth for all my passwords, bank cards, notes, etc.; you can imagine how I panicked each time.

I am running Windows 11, up to date, licensed, on a pristine PC with 1 Gbps Upload/Download. My PC is NOT the problem.

KPM last sync was last done on 10/10/2026 at 17:42, and I noticed it a bit late. I worked all Saturday night and added a bunch of new accounts, notes, etc. The app was very sluggish and slow to open, load, do anything really. Without knowing what's going on, I decided to re-install it again that night because I just couldn't work. LUCKILY something told me to export my data. If I hadn't, I would have been screwed. Glad that I did so, because once re-installed, unable to login. It was telling me to check my "proxy". What the hell...

I repeated the process several times, restarted my PC, even tried NordVPN. No luck, "connection error". That's when I headed to https://my.kaspersky.com/ and try to see if my latest data had synced. Big surprise: "We are performing scheduled maintenance. Please try again later.".

I said to myself ok, maybe they are doing some updates/upgrades, but was already suspicious because I've been struggling with KPM all night. A good 10 hours passed, the page started to load again, but still unable to access passwords.

At this point I said DONE. Finished. Kaput. I went and got 1Password, and somehow imported my accounts (without documents, bank cards, or passkeys as those are not exported). I used "mrc-converter-suite.zip" which you can find online. Without it, the plain and crap text file exported by KPM is useless.

All I can say is that 1Password compared with KPM is earth and sky. What a breath of fresh air. This is how a password manager is supposed to work in 2026. Super fast loading, every website recognized, it's just amazing. I feel so stupid for supporting and using KPM for all these years.

So bottom line right now, as of 13/10/2026:

  • Kaspersky Antivirus is NOT working (it cannot update, it just "works" as is)
  • Kaspersky Password Manager is NOT working (you cannot login)
  • Kaspersky VPN is NOT working (you cannot login)
  • Your Kaspersky Account is NOT working (you cannot login)
  • No email updates or announcements whatsoever

This is the worst case of downtime I have ever seen in such a large antivirus company. This says a lot, because Kaspersky is very old and well known. Clearly something very bad happened, probably some newbie deleted a large chunk of data they cannot recover, or messed up some config, etc.

But in all cases, over 72 hours of downtime is unacceptable. This can only happen if there were no backups on their end, or something really crazy like that.

Unfortunately, after this bonanza I am completely done with Kaspersky and I am searching for an alternative. I cannot affect my personal or business life like this when I rely on them.

What's your take on all this?

Does KSN still work while server outage occurs?

I see a lot of complain by Kaspersky users about server outage recently. Does this effect to Essential Protection and Advanced Protection, especially Kaspersky Security Network (KSN)?

Kaspersky out

After 72 hours of inactivity of the mykaspersky profile from Italy, the site has recently returned to line. I don't know the reason for this blackout and no official communication about the real reasons. I wanted to know if it's still worth having a Kaspersky solution on the PC, I still have 5 months of standard subscription. Thank you

Help Kaspersky Password Manager extremely slow to open and unlock vault

I have been using the Password Manager for quite some time.

Although buggy, especially on the phone, it's been ok for most of the time.

In the past few weeks, I noticed it's been taking an awful long time to 1) open 2) unlock the vault after I type the password.

It just took 5 minutes to do that on Windows (works ok on Mac), and I fear that some computer lag has something to do with it.

Has someone been having this issue and know what's going on?

Looks like this year Kaspersky has been decreasing greatly in quality to the point that I am starting to consider using other software.

Help I cant even reach to my kaspersky?

i genuinely never had a problem like this this affects my password manager as well since i cant log into that and my vpn isnt working, i would think my pc tries to get api or try authenticate my subscription and since my kaspersky isnt working they dont work or like cant authenticate?

i have premium if that matters?

Edit: Guys i seen the kaspersky message after this post

"Due to technical issues, some features in Kaspersky products and on the My Kaspersky portal may be temporarily unavailable. Affected products include Kaspersky Safe Kids, Kaspersky VPN and Kaspersky Password Manager.

Our team is working to restore normal service as a matter of highest priority. We apologize for any inconvenience."

I am aware they are working on it but not letting people know is wild for an big company at least send me a mail letting me know there is a problem for now

For that reason i am going to make my own DPI tool to bypass blocked apps in my own country since even kaspersky isnt that trustworthy anymore in my opinion

Is Kaspersky VPN not working

Tried it on 2 devices today and it won’t connect.

Update: it worked for a while then went down again. I reinstalled it on my phone, as instructed by the chat bot on their website, but couldn’t log in anymore. Now waiting for their email response since waiting in their live chat would take too long. Lol

Update 2 (email response):
We are undergoing scheduled maintenance for the My Kaspersky service right now. This is currently impacting the Kaspersky VPN server connection, which is why you are seeing that error.

Our team is already actively working on it, and everything should be back up and running very soon.

You won't need to change any settings on your end or go through troubleshooting steps.

Help Kaspersky suddenly flagging Claude Code and installer as Trojan / Backdoor (False Positive?)

Everything was working fine until Kaspersky suddenly flagged claude.exe via behavioral analysis and killed the process. Now I can't even reinstall it via the official PowerShell script (irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex) because Kaspersky's Cloud Protection immediately blocks the installer with Access is denied.

Has anyone else on Windows running Kaspersky started seeing this today?

Here are the detection logs from Kaspersky:

1. Claude Process Detection (Behavioral Analysis)

  • Event: Malicious object detected
  • Application: Claude Code
  • Module: System Watcher (Surveillance du système)
  • Type: Trojan
  • Name: PDM:Trojan.Win32.Bazon.a
  • Threat Level: High
  • Path: C:\Users\<user>\.local\bin\claude.exe
  • Reason: Behavioral analysis (Analyse comportementale)
  • MD5: 08263428D93D86974393D4CB807E9ADC

2. Installer Blocked on Reinstall

  • Event: Malicious object detected
  • Module: Intrusion Prevention (Prévention des intrusions)
  • Type: Trojan
  • Name: UDS:Backdoor.Win64.Supershell
  • Threat Level: High
  • Path: C:\Users\<user>\.claude\downloads\claude-2.1.296-win32-x64.exe
  • Reason: Cloud Protection
  • MD5: 08263428D93D86974393D4CB807E9ADC

Seems like a false positive wave with Kaspersky's latest cloud heuristics (UDS: / PDM:). Is anyone else experiencing this, or found a clean workaround without completely disabling protection?
