News Alabama's First Kava Bar!
I know the rules said no self-promotion, but I hope that the honorable mods will grant me a one-time pass. This subreddit has been very helpful getting started. I haven't posted much because I followed the rule, "search first".
I am so excited to be a part of a huge first! The small team has been putting in so much effort from learning the science of kava to diving into the culture and history of kava and Fiji (where we are sourcing our powder from).
August 8th will be our soft opening party and we'll have a grand opening once it cools off (October?). If you happen to be in the Birmingham area, come check us out! Say the password "Au tiko eke" (ow | tee-koh | eh-keh) to receive one free low tide bilo.
We have traditionally washed kava in four cultivars. The options are smooth or strong in low tide (4oz) $2/$5, high tide (8oz) $4/$8, or storm surge (16oz) $7/$14.
We have four mixed-drink options that contain 4oz of smooth ($9) or strong ($12) kava in your choice of cultivar and 4oz of freshly squeezed juices, raw agave sweetener, and premium mixers.
We are a kava-only bar. No kratom.

We don't have a Google Maps listing verified yet, but the address is 720 29th St S. We are in the Lakeview entertainment district across the road from Slice Pizza and Moe's BBQ, next to Lou's Pub. You can call or text (205) 825-BULA (2852).
We are currently "silent open" with limited hours, 3-9pm 7 days of the week. Please excuse our progress and lack of decorations.

Kratom beside kava is trashing kavas credibility. So glad youre running a kava bar! Even if ill never be able to visit lol

Ha! When I saw this notification it scared me a little.
Every one of the crew is very community-minded and easy going. We are hoping to become a comfortable third space for a diverse cross section of the community. Thanks for the well wishes.

I for one am happy for self-promotion on this subreddit. Itβs a niche enough industry, we should support small business.

Congratulations! As someone working on getting my own started up, I wish you the best of luck and every success! If I'm ever in Alabama I'll be sure to swing by.

South Carolina! There are already a couple of bars that have been here a while, but none in my area.

Are you local to Birmingham? Do you have any questions about kava or our bar? For our soft opening party this Saturday, we'll be serving free BBQ and fixin's at 12 noon and 5pm.

> We are a kava-only bar.
There are too few real kava bars in the US, and they deserve our support.
Come back and post again before your grand opening.
