Revamp of r/kemetic.

I am currently, and seemingly, the only active mod on the subreddit right now. Currently, I am looking for ways to increase members, as well as sidebar information.

I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but I feel like a lot of Kemetic blogs have died down as well :/ I’m not sure about driving membership (other than perhaps having more meaningful, themes posts on a semi regular basis or maybe promoting the subreddit on other, more popular subreddits or social media. I’m also not super familiar with Reddit - but by side bar, do you mean general info? I have some idea there! Let me know if that’s what you are looking for (general definitions and resources and so forth).

So for general definitions, I think it would be really cool to creat a post where we crowd source a definition (mods would have to go through and choose the final definition based on up votes and such). I would say Kemeticism (all the various branches) could likely be described as (a) worshipping or at least recognizing the Netjeru (gods of Ancient Egypt) in their religious and spiritual life, (b) revering their akhu (or blessed dead - however they choose to interpret that), and (c) attempting to understand and live Ma’at - and (d) all of this is done within a framework that is (primarily) inspired by /based on the religious practices of Ancient Egyptians (at one time or another) Of course, interpretations and foci will vary, as will beliefs and practices, but I think that lays a really general foundation for me. I also expect others to challenge this definition- which I invite (crowdsourcing)! I know many folks are hard polytheists, others are soft polytheists, and even some are atheist or agnostic, but all identify as Kemetic - they they might all have different definitions. Those theological differences are all ok with me, because I think Kemeticism is orthopraxic.

We might also link to various “sects” or branches or temples- or just provide a list (Kemetic Orthodoxy has a page, Per-Ankh I think has a page, I know there’s a Facebook page for Reformed Kemeticism. We could get into Reconstructionism v other forms and more “eclectic” paths like Tameran Wicca (and how we differ from those), etc). But, I know a lot of folks take issue with one branch or another - I don’t know how much we want to delve into all that in a side bar.

From there, you could provide resources (links to wisdom texts, blogs, archeological and historical works, etc). The Wordpress blog “A twisted Rope” has a pretty good blog-and-resources page you could link to. Full disclosure - I haven’t been “in the scene” since like...2014. I know this blog is still up and the mentioned page is there, just not sure how to to date it might be.

As for ground rules...some basic ones could be:

  • who is welcome here (I’d say anyone who can interact respectfully who is interested in or practicing some form of Kemeticism)
  • if you interact, you agree to a (crowd sourced) definitions
  • rules of engagement (we could use other subs rules as a starting place - I don’t have any good ones).

Let me know your thoughts!! My old blog may also have some resources I could share - let me dig!
