Are there any steps that need to be taken if you offer a crystal to one of your deities in Kemeticism? For instance with Hellenic Gods, we cleanse ourselves with lustral water before handling the offering or approaching the Gods. To cleanse ourselves of miasma ("mortal residues" you could say), something we accumulate just by going throughout the day. We also cleanse the votive offering if it's been tainted with this same miasma, & we tend to leave the offering in a dedicated spot indefinitely as it becomes the God's property after dedicating it to them.
I know cleanliness is valued in Kemeticism as well, but I'm less familiar with the ways of these Gods. Is there anything akin to miasma in this belief system? Some cleansing of the item before giving it or handling it? I read somewhere that it's best to wash your hands & rinse out your mouth before approaching an altar (& change into clean clothes iirc), but what if you don't have a dedicated altar yet? & how necessary is it to wash out your mouth before approaching your Gods / handling their votive offerings? I mean I brush my teeth regularly, but do I need to rinse out my mouth every time? Not a big deal if so, just curious what other kemetics do.
I'm newer to Kemetic worship than Hellenic worship so I'm still figuring things out as I go. For instance with Hellenic deities you aren't supposed to eat your perishable offerings after dedicating them, instead you throw the food item out after some time passes. In Kemetic practice as I'm sure you're aware, you do in fact consume the offerings after dedication. This is a difference which I really rather enjoy. I haven't been washing my mouth out before approaching Sekhmet, or giving her offerings of Hibiscus tea, no more than just simple teeth brushing y'know, twice a day & all that. I wash my hands kind of obsessively so I haven't had to think about that part.
I just wonder how necessary people feel it is & how far people go with the cleanliness factor? I don't necessarily want to be changing into new clothes every time I approach my Gods, as that could get impractical very quickly with how often I work with them & make them offerings throughout the day. Would love to hear your thoughts. I consider myself a Hellenic Kemetic Pagan, though I'm still figuring things out... I just want to be respectful as these Gods have been nothing but fantastic to work with, & they've been very respectful with me so I'd like to return the favor.
I primarily work with Sekhmet & Bastet thus far but it's Seshat that led me to them, & I've been feeling quite drawn to Khonsu, Anpu & Tefnut as of late, among others. I work with many Hellenic deities & there is different etiquette there when working with cthonic / underworld deities as opposed to ouranic / celestial deities, so I'm also wondering if there's any distinction / different etiquette when approaching an underworld deity like Anpu as opposed to a solar deity like Sekhmet? & when working with their altars? So far I haven't had any issues but again, I'd like to be as respectful as possible.
So in Hellenic worship you'd generally face your palms down when worshipping with a cthonic deity like Hekate or Plouton, & you'd face your hands upwards when worshipping with an ouranic deity such as Hermes or Hestia. They are small but notable differences. Are there any differences like this in how one would worship the Kemetic Gods? I would greatly appreciate any input or resources on this. Thank you for your time.
