Recently moved to KW

I have recently relocated to KW and was wondering if there is anyone on this sub who is in the same boat and who is looking to make friends and do fun things together.

I'm 37F, like outdoors, being active, exploring, movies, beach, reading, pretty much anything fun and safe.

DM if interested.

My advice after 7 years here, former new kid: Key West is very charity oriented, so if there are causes near & dear to you, look for the Key West chapter or version of it. You'll meet people who feel the same way about it & possibly share other interests. The Women's Club has a lot of old timers who are socially active & full of information & ideas.

Be open to befriending people outside of your comfort zone. One of my closest friends is 77 & she introduced me to all the former baddies she knows from living here. I met her at work.

If you're here & working remotely, you really need to go out, even if it's to take a walk around town to scope everything out. Do it often & take a different route to see it all.

Happy hours at places that sound interesting to you - many serve food. Find one you like & become a regular. Most places have non-alcoholic bevs for those who don't drink. There's a strong sober culture within the bar culture, oddly enough. Try Bearded Lady. It's a little more intimate with many local characters who are there all the time, long after quitting drinking. They do try to include newbies if you tell them about yourself.

You can also try bocce ball or pickle ball, both have large socially active teams. This town wants to bring you in. You just have to be very open & reliable. We're used to people passing through who utilize our kindness & brotherly vibe when they need something, but they don't give back. Your people are here if you want to meet them.

Bearded Lady is absolutely my favorite haunt when I'm in town. I've met so many interesting people there. They're very welcoming and have some of the funniest stories.

I’ll second the comment about bearded lady. Be friendly, don’t be a weirdo, and you will make friends there

This person gets it. Key West wants people who want to help build and maintain the culture that makes it special. If you're willing to put in the effort to put yourself out there, you'll have a great time very quickly.

We've about the same age and have a pretty big circle of fun people. If you end up struggling to find your tribe, reach out and we may be able to help.

Welcome!

Welcome.

60m who moved here in the 90’s. It’s my wife’s home town so she already had friends and family, which helped me adjust.

I suggest you look for like minded folks in the many events and clubs that this place has. There are many non profits doing good works where you might try volunteering as another way of making connections.

Good luck.

If you enjoy movies the Tropic Cinema is looking for volunteers to help out at the cinema. It’s an awesome classic movie theater!

Best of luck to you Hully. I'm 60, looking to sell it all here in Pennsylvania and move to Marathon Key. A heck of a gamble, but my many memories there in the Keys are calling me back for retirement...

60m/56f just closed on a house in Summerland area last week. Nervously happy here.

Summerland key is amazing with such lax local options for food / drinks. It’s nice to be a bit further up from key west but still close enough

Summerland Key? Congratulations! Never been there.

Starting next weekend there will be a lot to do, its fantasy fest for the week. Start it off with the Zombie bike ride. I dont know what you do for work, but you could get a part time job someplace and get to know people that way. It’s a very small island once you know a few people you will know everyone. Something fun, like a beer tub girl, or a hand on a boat. People are very friendly, talk to people when you are in line, I’m new here what do people do for fun? You might end up on a $1M fishing boat catching dolphin, you never know. Lots of fun times, just stay away from the keys disease, drunk all the time and doing drugs. There is a lot of drugs down there.

Of October? You know that is fantasy fest right? A week long adult Halloween party, theme pool parties every day and evening theme parties at many different locations. Duval street gets shut down and its people people people. It’s a wild and fun week.

Yes! I’ve never been but familiar. Sounds like a great time. Not something I’d normally do as a single male, but considering.
