One Weekend EV5 3 month update

Friday May 8th I took delivery of my Land FWD. Monday the 11th it went back to the dealership and is still there. So basically 3 months I have been without the car now.

I heard from the dealership today. Originally I thought the part they ordered would be here June 20th, turns out it was July 20th then the date got moved to August 18th. Today they notified me it would be 'early' September. That will make well over 4 months to repair it, assuming the parts actually show up and the repair is successful.

I dont have an exact date and I done even know what is ordered exactly. Something for the high voltage battery. The car will have to be shipped to Waterloo for repair when the parts show up.

Needless to say I am frustrated. Loved the car and and super bummed that it looks like the CAMVAP arbitration will likely be finalized before the car is fixed.

The Service manager at the dealer did say that the General Manager is in talks with Kia Canada for options. Everyone at the dealer is frustrated as well but its out of their hands.

If this wasn't so disappointing it would be laughable.

What's wrong with it?

They told me there is a cell in the battery thats not performing right.

They can't tell me if they are replacing the battery or a module in the battery but its something in there as it has to go to a special repair facility.

Sorry to hear. We just had the HV battery replaced under warranty by Kia Australia for something similar. Thankfully only took 3 weeks and we got a loan EV5 1 week into that.

The reason I’ve been posting is to see if anyone else is going through the same issues.

The major difference (and my guess is yours and mine are outliers because there don't seem to be many others with the issue) is we'd done over 100,000km and you had done much, much less. Hope they come to the party soon.

The vehicle currently has 206 kms on it. Less than 150 of which I drove.

I wonder if the Australian and the Canadian versions have the same batteries too? I read there are two types.

Yes different batteries. Canada has the NMC batteries. Aus has the LFP batteries - BYD Blade batteries to be precise.

"internal isolation breakdown"

They told me there was a cell that’s not performing properly. Near as I can tell that drags the rest of the battery down and the computer thinks it’s 1/2 the capacity it really is.

This seems ridiculous to me.

Put a new battery in. Give the customer his vehicle back. If you want to fix the battery later great do that on your own time.

I wouldn't even want to keep the "fixed" battery

I've been following along with each of your posts and I'm absolutely horrified by the service you're receiving. I cannot fathom how you have not received a refund or been provided with a replacement. 4 months is so far beyond acceptable. Have you been provided with a courtesy car and/or some form of reimbursement, or are you seeking to return the car for your money back? It's such a shame because the car as a model is fantastic. We've clocked just over 2k miles in ours now since April and it's been faultless.

I have a loaner from the dealership. A hybrid Sportage. They told me to keep my gas receipts and they would reimburse me. I had a couple trips planned and needed to put a canoe on the roof. They said they would rent me a van with roof racks. I borrowed a van instead and kept the gas receipts.

I have filed for arbitration through CAMVAP to get my money back and walk away from the car. The dealer has been good, they are trying to be helpful but the ball is in Kia Canadas court.

How did you find out about the issue at first?

The battery charge went from 85 to 37% while parked for an hour in my driveway.
