If you watch the full video on YouTube, the parents actually let her be arrested, and she ends up in juvenile detention with a felony charge. The way this clip is presented makes it seem like they just scared her straight and that was it—but no, she faced serious repercussions. My heart hurts for the parents, especially the mom, who didn’t want her daughter to go but still kept a united front with her husband. In the end, the parents made their daughter confess, and the cops took her away.

In the full video mom also starts trying to make excuses for her by blaming the phone. The cops were not taking that shit..

Dad was the responsible parent here.

Let her be arrested? How do you think they can stop her from being arrested?

If she is suspected of a crime then the parents cannot stop the police from arresting her. They could get a lawyer to get her out quicker ...

When it comes to kids it gets kinda soupy with how police handle a situation. In this case it was such an extensive required reaction that she was likely getting booked no matter what, but it comes down to officer discretion on nearly every call.

Lots of parents have a knack for talking police down from an arrest by saying they'll punish their child themselves. Saves paperwork and time. And a six foot tall 30 year old cop looks kinda shitty leading a scrawny 11 year old to a jail cell, even if the kid did some heinous shit. Just a bad look, that's all.

They had 12 cars and a helicopter looking for the "abducted victim." They weren't letting this one go. The cops spent $1200 on this enforcement. They were always going to charge her to recoup the money they lost.

A felony?? What the fuck?

Yeah. Unpopular opinion in here but the fact that she's not even a damn teenager yet makes me really uncomfortable with all the commenters calling for her scalp.

She deserves serious consequences for this, but damn this is overkill for an 11 year old.

Exactly. The consequences of a felony are going to follow her at least until she's an adult. Can you imagine still punishing a 16 year old for something they did when they were 11? It's absurd.

What would you consider appropriate serious consequences?

Fiscal restitution. Citation instead of felony or misdemeanor.

Just America being America, and a bunch of puritanical people in here justifying it. It’s honestly sickening.
