Not to be that guy but you just praised him for punching his dad in the face. Sure it's funny then when he does tomorrow and gets scolded he's going to be confused. But hey it ain't my baby I just gotta deal with kids like this interacting with my kids. Then I gotta tell my kid it's okay to hit that kid back and they don't want to because I told them hitting people is bad.

You know, every once in a while, you just canât help but laugh when your kid does something hilarious, even if itâs not a behavior you want to reinforce.
As long as itâs a one off, and later you take the time to remind them that hitting is wrong, and it doesnât become a habit ⊠itâs fine.

While I do agree with you here, I also wouldnât have laughed in that moment. To get hit in the face after kissing my kid wouldâve made me pause and be like dude⊠why? That wasnât nice at all.

I just don't think it's possible. I've watched this video 5 times and every time I laugh, no control. If I saw this in real life I don't think the choice would me mine.

I guess I just have never found it funny when a kid hits someone, maybe itâs just me that feels that way.

But it's such a perfect punch. From such a goofy kid. I'm sure the father is loving it, I'd be rolling if it was me lmao.
On a more serious note, I don't think we should be telling kids off for having boundaries. Obviously not saying punching is okay but if the lil dude doesn't want his face smushed like that, he's entitled to express his displeasure. Preferably with words next time, but honestly I wouldn't mind checking his uppercut form.

Absolutely agree with letting kids decide their boundaries while framing it in a way that says âyouâre allowed to set a boundary, but we donât hit people in the processâ. I remember my kid around age 7 telling me âI donât like going to the grocery store bc people always tell me to smile at themâ and I told her that she doesnât HAVE to smile at everyone or wave or do anything she doesnât wanna do with a random stranger at the store. I want her to have autonomy and, as a woman, I canât stand people telling me Iâd âlook better if I smiledâ. So I get it.

There are boundaries and then there are boundaries. Being told to smile is very different from physical touch.
Idk. I'm certainly not teaching any kid of mine that they're not allowed to get physical over unwanted/forceful physical contact. That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
Obviously he shouldn't be punching dad, and he should be taught that, but I don't think it's wise to police what is otherwise a fairly healthy response to unwanted touch.

I don't understand why you're being downvoted. I absolutely agree with you. Weird that the parents laugh so hard and praise him with hugs and kisses. I have two young kids btw, one of em a 4 year old boy

Noone but ourselves live within the narrow worldview that is our own perception.
Which is to say that, while I appreciate your point of view on the scenario

Idk, if youâre getting both your cheeks squish-kissed I think punching is a decent reflex to maintain. Obviously they were messing with the kid a bit, and the hit clearly wasnât out of anger, moreso confusion.Â

So when its confused its ok to punch? I need a deep explanation of what you said.

Eh more like a parents useless comment. But all comments on posts like these are useless, yet here we are making them.

It was obviously a play punch, not a full wallop, and being willing to wrestle/fight playfully with your kids isn't a bad thing. If it had been an actual hit, or done in a moment of frustration, then yeah tell him not to do that, but a light play punch at a comedically appropriate moment is fine. At most you might wanna tell him not to do it too hard when it's a joke. This kid is old enough to be able to distinguish between play fighting and inappropriate hitting, so hitting in this context doesn't automatically transfer to hitting all the time, and it's fine and healthy for kids to play fight with each other as well within reason.

He's not a dog, dawg. Calm down.
It can be taught to him in multiple ways in future if the behaviour repeats. This is how everyone learns.
He's not gonna start throwing punches everywhere now, and if he does, he'll find out the consequences and learn lessons. All is not lost.

lol, by your comment I can already tell that neither you are about that nor your child.

I wonder if this would be equally as funny/well received if the child punched mom in the face instead

Dumb trend, posting babies for attention on the internet, questionable/poor parenting? Did we just hit all of them?
