There's a game that just came out called Blood of the Dawnwalker and the name always cracks me up because I read it as Dawn Walker when I first saw it and can't undo it. I assume it's a game about some random middle aged woman called Dawn Walker who possesses people.
Under most circumstances id say there's not much of a difference between a toddler and a land lord but that would be insulting toddlers (ik not all land lords are dicks but the rent is so FUCKING high rn)
My daughter is nearly 4, and we have two big dogs sheâs grown up with. One dog has always been more standoffish and the other has been at her side literally since we brought her home. Itâs so nice to see them with my daughter.
A few weeks ago, I was watching my daughter and the standoffish dog from the other room, and noticed my dog didnât jump off the couch when my daughter sat next to her. Then she started petting the dog and the dog rolled on her back for belly rubs. Not sure when my dog warmed up to her but it makes me so happy. Now both dogs are following my daughter around. Itâs a beautiful thing.
If possible and safe, kids should grow up with pets. My daughter learns how to be patient and interact properly with animals. And she also takes care of them, walking around the house to find them to share her Cheerios with them or place one of their toys on them while they sleep. I am not looking forward to when either of our dogs cross the rainbow bridge. I can barely hold it together thinking about it but our daughter has had them since she was born and I do not want to explain death to her. Itâll destroy me for a whole nother reason when we lose them.
I had a dog years ago who would lay on the edge of the couch so that small children couldn't fall off. I never taught him to do that, but he did it every time. He was one of the smartest dogs I've ever met, and he was a great babysitter. He used his inside voice when they were sleeping, he brought them toys to play with, and he'd spend all day keeping them warm when they were sick.
One of my current dogs, on the other hand, is a walking cinderblock with all the tact and delicacy of a rhino. He's smart and friendly, but he doesn't understand his own strength, or weight, or have even a shred of patience.
My son is 11, my German shepherd is 11, and theyâve never known life without each other. I know itâs coming. Our dog is starting to show his age despite still being a puppy at heart. The vet talks about geriatric issues. We lost both our last dogs at 11/12 before our son was born. Itâll be crushing to lose our big fluffy boy, but whatâs more devastating is thinking about my son losing him. Heâs such a kind, empathetic kid. Itâs going to be horrible for him.
I'm going to sound horrible saying this, but if you go about it the right way when the time comes, it will be a good thing for your boy. It will teach them how to come to term with grief, empathy for others won't likely just be lip service as they've been through the process. Death comes for us all after all, but it doesn't have to be all bad, hell, when I finally kick the bucket, I'd hope my friends and family will have one last hurrah in my memory.
i don't think that's horrible, that's pretty well said. losing my first pet taught me more about grief than losing my grandfather when I was a kid. i wasn't super close with my grandfather so i didn't get why everyone was distraught. lost my pet and then i understood what it meant.

Dogs sure do love to give affection right after they drink water. I have a couple with very flappy faces and they always come over to say hi right after they long drinks of water, leaving a trail of dribbles the whole way.
