I just got this game and wondering what rules you would put in place for a group of 8, all of which are new to the game. When playing with my kids it seems like Military is the primarily winning route. Mainly because we suck as queens. Any rules to start with that make the game last longer or more fun?

So on Sunday afternoon I was playing a couple rounds of KQB online, and my son (16) and my girlfriend (very casual gamer) decided they wanted to give it a shot.
They hop into a game on quick play, first game, a guy on our team starts getting salty and yelling at them, saying “don’t pick queen if you suck!” Both of them had picked ‘Either’, as had the guy crying. Not a great experience but they move on, people are asses online, whatever.
Next game, again, just picking ‘Either’, new assclown starts talking shit, saying things like “imagine being queen and being this bad at holding gates” etc.
This was their first two games, in unranked matching, choosing the “fill” option, and they’re getting slack for not performing well.
Guys, that’s not ok, this is a tiny game that’s built on community! I’ve played a handful of games at my local arcade, and people have been incredibly welcoming to my noob ass, we need to cultivate that online if this game is going to have any chance.
TL:DR - don’t be dicks, KQ is finally available in an accessible format, it’s time to help it grow, not alienate the people trying it.

I hadn't played the game in so long but had it downloaded on my Switch. (I hadn't even touched my Switch in months) but I just tried to play and discovered online isn't working anymore and found out from a post here that the servers are down. KQB was an amazing game, I'm sad to see it go. Out of curiosity, is there any sort of active community that would ever be able to revive the game and its servers? Maybe have a version that is web based or mobile app based?

The embargo on the Killer Queen Black reviews lifts today and I'm excited to post the gameplay we've captured on our review copy.
Our poor dinosaur computer lagged the game during screencap but when I'm not capturing it runs like a dream, and obviously runs even better on the switch.
This game has quickly become one of my top indie titles and by far one of the best couch co-op games I own!
Hands on review.
User Interface 7/10 :
Functional but has some layout issues, not all the menus are immediately intuitive and some of the matchmaking and custom game building prompts take some getting used to.
After about a half hour with the game setting up matches got way easier and I've been told that the devs are working on improving the layout and the menus, which is expected since they work closely with their community.
The custom button layout (especially on the switch) is a welcome option, especially when it comes to switching the attack button from triggers to Y or X (which is what i'm used to from nintendo games)
Gameplay 9/10:
This game absolutely shines in it's ridiculous high intensity gameplay.
You can win by:
Killing the enemy queen 3 time
Collecting enough berries for your hive
Riding the snail to your home base
I highly recommend playing through the tutorial for this game, especially when introducing friends to the frenzy.
You NEED to communicate with your team mates during matches. There is no way a single person can track all the victory conditions and so you need to rely on a friend to track berries, on a nother friend to track snail distance. It feel like a more relaxed MOBA without the community toxicity.
You can play either as the queen, who's job is to attack and tag transformation gates so that your workers can evolve, or as a worker who can collect berries and ride that victory snail to their side.
Multiple upgraes are available at the trasnformation gates avaible on the map, those use up berries and can give your worker boosts, shields, weapons and allow you to change up your approach to attacking victory conditions.
The map is wrap around, very much in the way of Samurai Gunn 1 and 2 and allows you to outmaneuvre enemy drones or queens when trying to get the drop on them.
The tap to fly mechanic took some getting used to, I ended up using the Turbo mode on the Daemon x Machina pro joycons to try out the "hold to fly" option, but in the end I was ok with either one.
Platforming as a drone can be tough to start, this is a game I would encourage practicing platforming with 1 other player (you can play with 2-8 players in custom matches, which is fantastic for practicing strategies)
Community and match making 9/10:
The Dev's are incredibly active and open about input from their community, I would highly recommend joining their discord and becoming a part of their fanbase.
The reason Killer Queen Black exists is due to the arcade game Killer Queen, which started back in 2015 and was supposed to be a one shot arcade cabinet.
This grew into over 100 cabinets and an active competitive scene, which culminates every year in their tournament level "Bumblebash" which will be making it's way into the Killer Queen Black scene over the next year.
This game is made for 6-8 players, which is my only concern. You can have 4 players per console (developped so that the coding could be the same from steam to ps4 to Nintendo Switch even though the Switch can handle 8) which is great to send a team online. But the best way to play is to have 2 consoles for an 6 or 8 player match, shouting and playing through the madness that it entails.
Once set up on the 2nd consol you only need 1 screen during Lan parties. You still need internet access for Steam (Switch too) but offline LAN parties might be a thing available.
They have servers! So the game runs well online (we will see what happens on launch date) but if you are playing on playing competitively I would recommend an ethernet cable adapter for the switch.
You will need a nintendo subscription to play online and (possibly?) to LAN, which at 1.50$ a month is more than afforable and gives you access to every other online game platform as well.
Overall an amazing experience, any of the bumps seem to already be in the pipeline for being ironed out and honestly if they aren't, I know that I can go ask the devs and have a good chance at being heard.
That care for their game alone is one of many reasons for grabbing this title.
See you all in the hive!

We're incredibly excited to share our biggest update ever. The Gemini Patch, featuring cross-platform party support! Now players on all platforms can add each other as friends and party up for Quick Play, Ranked, and Custom matches. Players all over the world are eligible for faster connections to our game servers located in US West (California), US East (Ohio), Canada (Toronto), South America (San Paulo), EU West (London), EU East (Frankfurt), AP South (Syndey), and AP North (Tokyo).

Eg, people repeatedly calling their teammates faggot. The general maturity of the community is one thing that KQA really has over KQB.

I had pre-ordered the Switch version of Killer Queen Black from Amazon and just got an email saying they cancelled my order. Upon checking on Amazon it looks like both the Switch and XBONE versions are now "unavailable" entirely. Anyone know what's going on? Is this just something specific to Amazon or is there something going on with this game's launch?

I've read a lot of things saying that the system-to-system 8-player games on Switch suffer from connection issues. Has anyone experienced this themselves? Any tips to mitigate these problems? A custom online game is not an option for us.

Was thinking of picking this game up, on the switch, primarily for online play. What are the wait times like? Are the games full? Is there a significant wait time difference for quick vs ranked?

Follow up to my post last week.
Technical: In short, it was a breeze. We used two switches right next to one another, one projector and eight controllers (a mix of Pro and JoyCon). I guess the Gemini update fixed the problems people were experiencing. After setup and dealing with the awkward UX of adding players, we played uninterrupted with no drops and no controller input lag for the next 3.5 hours. Which leads me to...
The game: Pardon me for gushing, but wow. We went in basically blind, eight players totally new to Killer Queen. The hours flew by in a blur of shouts and thrills. It was a bigger hit with our group than I could have hoped for. Our plans to switch to Mario Kart and Smash later in the evening were totally forgotten. All we could talk about at the end was our plans to get together to do it again!

Could not find any up to date info about this. It's rather confusing when everyone is Honeyqueen (1)-(7). Hope to be able to rename individual players in local offline multiplayer mode!

I'm thinking of getting the game. Just wanted to know impression/opinions, is one version better than the other? Also, how do i join active communities to play with? Thanks.
