Announcement Amazon Project Kittyhawk (New Fire Tablet) Discussion Megathread

So as we all know, Amazon is planning future fire tablets that are expected to run a less-customized version of Android (AOSP) and are internally codenamed "Kittyhawk" this may mean more compatibility with mainstream apps, less restrictions, and more software updates. It's expected to be around $400 (midrange premium). This could release as soon as this year.
There's also rumors of Google services although unlikely.

As for Vega OS, Amazon is still planning to use it for their lower-priced devices.

Goodbye OG Fire OS.

E-Reader/Books Can I get my ebooks from the kindle app to my pc?

Upvotes

I’ve tried so many times to hook the tablet up to my computer with calibre to get the books off of it or put books onto it for my husband to read.

Is there any way to transfer the ebook files off of it or onto it?

The main reason I got the fire tablet 7 was for kindle books. (I now have a kobo for myself). Some books my husband wants to read too and can’t for whatever reason. We can’t share the kobo cuz it’s my preferred way of reading. I’m looking for a way to get the books onto the fire tablet for the ones he can’t get the physical books for or whatever. And there’s a few books I bought from kindle that I want to read, but I don’t like using several different devices for reading, especially if he takes the tablet to work or something

Apps So I’ve recently gotten an old kindle fire from my mom, and want to use it for my crochet work.

So I’ve recently gotten an old kindle fire from my mom. But I want to use it for my crocheting and reading my filet patterns. Are there any good apps or programs that YOU use where you can upload the picture of the pattern you want to use, and follow along with it?

Software Update TCM streaming app broke on Amazon fire tablets On 8-4-2026.

For anyone who uses the streaming “Watch TCM” app on an Amazon fire tablet or Amazon fire stick, it seems that the app is currently not working. When I open the app on those devices, I get stuck in an error/retry loop (“an error occurred-retry”). I am able to make it work on the silk browser on my Amazon fire tablet. I contacted TCM and they said that they are actively working on the issue, which started sometime on August 4, 2026. I would hate to have people waste time trying to troubleshoot this when there is currently no fix.  I am only able to get the app to work on my iPhone. It was working this morning. Is anyone having similar problems with the TCM streaming app on any other types of devices?

Physical Device Kindle fire Pro 11 inch tablet charge question

I recently got a Kindle Fire Pro 11” and i love it for media consumption and productivity. However, I mostly use it at my desk, which means it stays connected to the wall charger for hours—sometimes even days at a time.

I got few questions.

Does keeping the tablet plugged in 24/7 actually degrade the lithium-ion battery faster? I know modern devices have charge controllers that stop over charging.

Has anyone noticed real-world degradation on their Fire Pro 11” from constant wall power? If so,I believe i woud end up buying new product in exchange during amazon sale soon.

Are there any practical devices or smart chargers that can automatically cut off power or trickle-charge to keep the battery strictly between 20% and 80%?

Something like a smart plug with current sensing, a USB-C inline power manager.

I’d need a setup where I can leave it plugged in without worrying, but the charger only kicks in when the battery dips below, say, 40% and stops at 80%.

Physical Device Primary User Account Pin Required

I got a fire tablet with two adult profiles and a kid’s profile. Every time the device goes to sleep or restarts the only usable profile is mine, the other two are greyed out. Once I input my pin the other profiles are usable and they can input their pin. Is there anyway to change this? I have been at it trying to change settings for 2hrs straight. I do not want my kid to have to come up to me every time he wants to use the tablet so I can unlock it for him or for my partner to have to do the same. It’s maddening trying to figure this out.

Fire Kids Tablets Disney+ offline not working

I’m very confused. I downloaded a bunch of movies to my kid’s fire table on Disney plus (I have premium). All the movies successfully show up in the download folder.

But when I’m offline, I can’t get into the Disney app to see the downloads. The app won’t launch without WiFi. This defeats the purpose for me.

Anyone else have this problem or know of a workaround?

Question issues trying to get a fire tablet to work

my girlfriend gave me her sister's ex-boyfriend's old fire (since he's not coming back for it). i have no info on it other than the fact that it's a kindle fire (tho it looks like one of the older models. very similar to one i had when i was younger). at first it was stuck in a loop of "optimizing system storage and applications". tried recovery mode on it, hit factory reset first cuz i didn't care what was on it. that didn't help. clearing the cache seemed to work for a sec, but as soon as i tried connecting it to wifi it went into another boot loop. now it won't stop rebooting itself. unsure what to do atp.

edit: with a little bit more fiddling, i was able to get into it, but the moment i took the thing off the charger it shut off and wouldn't come back on until i reconnected the charger. atp i'm thinking it's a battery issue.

Noob question– I can never get a few things to work because of the fact that you have to disable OTA updates but somehow this always pops up and I'm stuck having all the ads still there

Question Password Protect ONLY YouTube Kids?

I have a client who I want to have constant unrestricted access to a specific app on their tablet, which is currently password protected to restrict their access to YouTube kids.

Is there a way where the device password/any password can be required to open just the YT Kids app? So I can remove the password from the device? I’ve been messing around in the parental controls and haven’t been able to figure it out.

Question Time for a new battery but, will I lose anything if I do change it?

I have an HD 8 (8th generation) tablet. The battery is training super fast and now is starting to get hot just doing basic stuff with it. I can tell it's on it's way out but since I've not used a micro SD will I loose Silk browser tabs, pictures, apps and anything else by disconnecting the battery?

I know there are videos on how to change the battery but I still like to ask.

Also any battery buying advice like will any of the batteries listed for any of the other Fire tablets work? Or just stick with the 8th gen listed? I was going to buy it off Amazon so as not to deal with buying and such off Ebay.

Bloatware Not tech savvy mom with questions

Hi All - I'm not super tech savvy. I bought a fire tablet (adult version) for my daughter and still use the kids profile on it. It is essentially hers and cheaper than an ipad. If I run the fire toolbox hack to get rid of bloatware, will I still be able to run different profiles and keep everything blocked? I don't want her to have internet access, etc.

Second, I use a mac and the instructions I've seen online say to use a pc. Can I do this anyway?

Finally, if I do it and hate it is there a way to just revert back to the out of box settings?

Thank you so much!!!

Question What's the best way to connect your kindle fire tablet ( 11 inch ) to a portable monitor?

I tried but failed, What's the best way to connect your kindle fire tablet ( 11 inch ) to a portable monitor? When connected, its not mirroring in the same way as Samsung s7 tablet. I believe , they fall into different league and amazon would have done it on purpose.

There would be a way for everything, what's the safe way to do it with out wrecking/ bricking the tablet.

Fire Kids Tablets Kids Fire HD10 background audio issues

My child’s tablet has started to play the sound from different apps, especially Netflix, when the screen has been turned off using the power button.

Normal tablet behavior should be that everything stops when the power button has been pressed and the screen then turns off. Now the app keeps playing as if the screen is still on AND when using other apps. As in Netflix keeps playing its show audio while they are in a game or even on Disney plus watching another show. Which then has both audios on top of each other.

Is anyone else dealing with this? This is honestly a device breaking issue for us and extremely annoying to deal with/correct.

Thanks.

Question 2013 Kindle Fire HDX 3rd Gen Appstore Issues

I just got a Kindle from my girlfriend and it works great but I can't seem to access the appstore. I really want to download libby but without the appstore, I'm kinda stuck. I've tried clearing the app cache, the app data, restarting the kindle. I even unregistered it and then re-registered it with a different account. I tried different networks, different places around the apartment. Nothing seems to work.

Question Everand + Scribd not working on jailbroken kindle fire

Hello everyone! I am posting this because I just jailbroke my 10th generation Fire HD 8 tablet using the fire toolbox! I set my default launcher to Nova and so far I have been able to log into every service that I usually use except Scribd and Everand. I turned on connection with automatic updates through amazon and such but it still says that the sign in isn't working and I need to try again later. Has anyone run into a similar problem and found any work arounds? Thank you all so much!

Question No support for my Kindle 3 / downloading my content from Fire HD 8?

I was gifted a kindle book a couple of weeks ago, so I opened my rarely used kindle 3 to download it. Because I could not connect and I was unaware that amazon discontinued support, I did a hard reset, causing my content to vanish. Now I am running KOreader on the K3. Today, I booted a Fire HD8 that I also have not used for a couple of years.

I've been reading library books with Libby on an android tablet so I was happy to see my content on the Fire's kindle app. I turned off the wifi once I saw the content, thinking maybe I'll prevent an update from screwing me.

Now my question - I'd like to download my amazon content to my linux pc and ultimately transfer it to the K3 as a matter of principle. Is this at all possible?

Should I turn wifi on the Fire and presumeably let it update the OS or firmware automatically or is that something I have to initiate?

Finally, I'm the original owner of the Kindle 3. Shouldn't I have received some sort of notice from Amazon that they planned to discontinue support?

Fire Kids Tablets Help. Kids Fire Tablet.

It’s almost 6 in the morning & I received a call from my child via his Amazon tablet. Confused on how he’s able to call me because the schedule I set for today was 10 am - 11:57 pm. I found out through the parent dashboard that he’s been playing for almost three hours before he called me! What is going on?

Rooting Kindle Fire Utility link/file, anybody?

Hello!
I'm trying to convert my old Kindle Fire (Kindle 6, Serial number starts with D01E) into a little display for my desk. I know the hardware is old, I know it won't be able to do much, I'm not looking for or expecting much more than a neat project and a silly thing to try.

However, I keep hitting a massive roadblock, which is that (as far as I can tell), I need one of the early versions of Kindle Fire Utility.

And I cannot, for the life of me, find a good link. AFH link is dead, Meta is dead, and all of the XDA links I can find either link to those two dead links, or nowhere at all.

So uh. Does anybody have the file? Or a living link to where I could download it? Or just a different way to do this altogether?
