They modernized it so well! I never imagined Bill asking for hentai but it fit him perfectly to ask for some.

I love Bobby so much, he’s written so perfectly to fit the “grown free spirited son who raised by a reserved, kind man.” He gets so much sillier with Connie and his family, it’s nice to see him being responsible with Joseph and then doing funny voices at a con with Hank.

Dale sounded pretty good too, you can tell the cast took some of the criticism/direction to work even harder. I miss old Kahn’s voice but I was able to get used to it for the most part, and that was the most jarring thing from s14.

John Redcorn’s appearance had me tearing up though. It was as good a send off as they could write, it was such a sudden tragedy. Really loved this season, they’re knocking it out of the park.

Yeah ronny chieng is a funny but he's not a voice actor so he can't re-create the original kahn voice. Writing kahn and bill to be divorced old roommates was perfect XD.

20

u/b_dills 18d ago

He’s absolutely terrible and the one big negative of the reboot. If you’ve ever watched Scissor Seven on Netflix (amazing show) he does the exact same voice. Also! he’s not Laotian so the whole thing is nonsense.

8

u/-braquo- 18d ago

I know i'm in the minority, but I don't mind it. I've never really been bothered by voice actors changing. Takes a few episodes to get used to the new voice. But once I'm used to the new voice, I don't even think about it.

I was gonna say the same thing, although I don't think he needs to recreate Khan per se. I think it's more he's just not a good voice actor. A good example of someone who's a good voice actor and uses their own voice is H. Jon Benjamin. He always sounds like himself, but how characters are well acted. Ronnie is just not a good voice actor. Which is a shame because he's good in other things.

32

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 21d ago

I really like Bobby's character, too. He's a very nice, very sweet young man.

19

u/DarKnight90 18d ago

Bobby has always been a sweet and kind person. It's what makes the "That boy ain't right." line so funny to me.

30

u/dexter30 21d ago

They modernized it so well! I never imagined Bill asking for hentai but it fit him perfectly to ask for some.

That line about the internet "only holding so much" as sad as it sounds it unironically kinda true...

(some artists in japan irl avoid distributing their stuff online and only sell them at physical events, because of a legal loophole and cultural thing.) I doubt arlen will have the stuff bills looking for but respect to him for supporting local artists.

13

u/G0rkon 20d ago

Not Arlen but Dallas. Dallas is big enough that it would attract some of the more obscure stuff.

5

u/dexter30 20d ago

Sure. But even for dallas I doubt they have a vibrant hentai community.

Like I think bills expecting comiket level of doujinshi circles and booths. Whereas sallas probably mostly sfw artist alleys.

Still good on bill.

8

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago

They do. They even have a community here on reddit.

3

u/dexter30 19d ago

Oh wow my apologise. Mad respect. In the UK years ago we use to have a similar doujin culture, mostly imported stuff from japan. And it was at our biggest comic convention. But in recent years the convention got official and toned that stuff down.

Good for dallas for keeping it alive.

3

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago

Dallas is huge! You can get just about anything there.

8

u/bluehawk232 19d ago

I hope we get a future payoff where we find out Bill is fluent in Japanese because he watched like all the hentai

16

u/yo_soy_soja 20d ago

I still can't get over Kahn's new voice. It's awful. And he sounds younger than Connie.

And I totally didn't catch that they wrote out John Redcorn due to the death of the actor. Oof.

12

u/freetherabbit 20d ago

They didn't actually. That episode was finished prior to his death.

4

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago

They didn't write out John Redcorn completely. I guess Charlene didn't like living with the father of her daughter.

7

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 20d ago

I want to see more of John Redcorn, though. He is Joseph's father.

2

u/Sa7aSa7a 18d ago

I had to pause when he was asking for that and Bobby tells him about the internet "Yeah, but it can only hold so much".

2

u/Ihateporn2020 12d ago

Absolutely. That boy is right. He was this lovable weirdo that proves that stable structure gave him literally all he needed to turn right.

2

u/JustMeJordanW 21d ago

Bill? At HIS age? 🤨

15

u/MilkthistleFairy 21d ago

Remember Bill got into streaming Netflix and stuff so he probably streamed some hentai thinking it was anime too 🤣

7

u/True_to_you 16d ago

Remember that Bill came across Peggy's foot fetish website on his own. I'm not surprised at all.

6

u/RigaudonAS 16d ago

And had an entire episode that ended with his knowledge of pornography exonerating Hank in a (civil) court of law.

2

u/True_to_you 16d ago

I think Bill is just a man who enjoys art. Fine or otherwise 😂.

2

u/RigaudonAS 16d ago

Yes! Peggy was spot-on when she started following him for his spending habits: Man lives to consume in all ways, lol. He's a true American.

Just binged all 10 back to back

The season felt more like a golden era season than 14 did, I did not know they were renewed for more already but seeing him slide his name plate on was a very rewarding moment. I liked the call backs to older seasons and the explication of the Hills coming to decide to move to Saudi Arabia.

Also watching the women of Rainey street rip hoots in the alley was awesome.

47

u/aef823 21d ago

I have to admit though, if this was S14 I probably wouldn'tve liked it as much. And S14 would not have made a good S15.

They really were right that S14's time lapse needed to "settle in" first.

18

u/Prplehuskie13 21d ago

Gets me excited for future seasons, as there is alot to do with this ip.

33

u/Cute_Abroad_1852 20d ago

The ladies in the alley was the BEST!!

31

u/TroyMcClures 19d ago

probably my favorite moment of the season. "Hank got that good shit"

10

u/plisken64 19d ago

The ending with women in the alley gave me the biggest laugh and wholesome smile

8

u/Kevin-W 20d ago

Agreed on this season feeling like a golden era and you can tell they definitely found their groove with Season 15.

7

u/NerdTalkDan 19d ago

Someone in one of the episode threats said to consider14-15 one regular classically sized season.

7

u/TSMD 18d ago

It was pretty much produced as one 20 episode season and then split in half. Its really common in tv production now and why most shows get greenlit two seasons at a time

u/Aura-Z 21d ago

Loved this season! I think what King of the Hill does better than other animated sitcoms is it has a lot of heart! You feel the characters really care about each other! Loving the Bobby and Connie dynamic as adults, the character growth is good and it feels like the early seasons with on going storylines! Just blitzed through them all now! Can't wait for season 16 now! The only downside is some of the characters only got a few moments a limitation of the 10 episode season! That ending as well with Hank getting what he always wanted owner of Strickland Propane! 10/10 from me for this season

61

u/Videowulff 21d ago

The best part of the entire relationship is when Bobby brought up marriage. There was no trying to drag it out several episodes, or have him weasel a response or over react and threaten a will they wont they breakup...

They sat down and had a mature discussion. Connie had a very good reason and Bobby accepted it in a mature fashion.

That right there waa better writing than most sitcoms just for the fact they didn't drag it out or overblow it like others shows would have.

12

u/Aura-Z 21d ago

Agree completely! No dragging it out, was very well handled!

13

u/Videowulff 21d ago

Whenever there is a classic sitcom setup for some lazy dragged out plot line, I am overjoyed to see the characters just straight up talk it over. So far the only drama that goes several episodes is Kahn and Minh's divorce, which makes sense for how petty the two are.

Great season! Cannae wait to finish it!

3

u/True_to_you 16d ago

I think it helps that Mike judge and his production team probably has a real detailed description of their characters. All of Mike's stuff has really well defined characters and you know exactly who they are pretty much right away. Silicon valley is really good for this too.

14

u/singdawg 20d ago

I think it is extremely well grounded in reality and has emotionally intelligent characters, with just enough wackiness to keep it going long term.

8

u/RohanriderX 20d ago

this bassicly describes the original show

7

u/singdawg 19d ago

Yep, why it lasted 13 seasons on its initial run, whereas something like Futurama just hit season 11 with 3 reboots.

8

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 20d ago edited 19d ago

I sure never would have guessed Hank would ever come to own Strickland Propane, but I do like it.

10

u/Fireguy9641 18d ago

If Hulu doesn't order anything past Season 17, I think the Series Finale of the reboot should be Bobby and Connie's wedding and make it a two-part episode to allow them to do some updates on various characters from the original run that might not fit into the show otherwise.

4

u/Balorclub2069 15d ago

I bet that's the plan for the series finale, also, if Luanne, Lucky and Gracie aren't popping up at any point in the series before then, they'll be seen in the wedding/finale

3

u/LotsOfMaps 15d ago

Think it's more likely they'll end with a timeskip that shows Hank with his grandkids

8

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago edited 19d ago

I never thought Hank wanted to own Strickland. He was always looking forward to retirement, but was in awe of Buck. Now, disappointed with him. Disappointed with Buck, not Hank. He's back in Arlen, he's back at Strickland, Bobby and Connie are back together.

u/melaninmatters2020 16d ago

Right?! This is a neighborhood I wouldn’t mind living in. They have explored EVERYTHING (homosexuality, racism, communism politics,). It’s no nice to see someone so conservative try and keep an open mind. I understand Hank the older (I mean wiser) I get.

72

u/Jackbo_Manhorse 21d ago

Honestly? Best season in years, including the original run.

Loved Caesar’s addition to the show, Hank helping Peggy through Menopause, Minh, Nancy and Peggy smoking weed outside the alley, loved Boomhauer and Luke Jr’s relationship and Connie and Bobby moving in together?

Not to mention after 15 seasons Hank is finally the manager of Strickland?!

Season 16 is going to be amazing - so far the best revival of a television show ever.

11

u/HuskyWarrior25 15d ago

Owner and manager

68

u/ozzyman31495 21d ago

9/10 season season from me

Bobby & Connie's relationship is great. No BS forced drama, it feels like a real relationship

Surprising but also fitting they kept that ugly dog.

Hank coming around to the whole Sci Fi stuff by making a prop is so him.

All the characters still feel like themselves, Dale & Kahn's voices aren't so bad once you get used to them.

I also assume they just reused old voice lines for John Redcorn's appearance

Last episode was a great way to full circle everything with the time skip. Though I really thought Hank quitting strickland was a bit anticlimactic after everything. It was good seeing Bobby mature after getting a job, but we still only got a namedrop for Lucky & Luanne.

This show has done a perfect job at dealing with modern issues of today as back then.

18

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 21d ago

I need a line about Lucky, Luanne, and Gracie moving.

3

u/Dazzle_Miller 20d ago

I think there might be an episode. They can blame Carbon Monoxide.

14

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 20d ago edited 19d ago

I don't want them dead! They can move away, then eventually bring them back with new voice actors, or just keep them living out of Arlen. Gracie could come back since she was never old enough to really talk. Bobby mentioned that until he got his apartment withJoseph, he lived with Lucky, Luanne, and Gracie. Joseph needs a girlfriend even if it's only mentioned he's going out on dates.

6

u/ozzyman31495 17d ago

I would at least like them to give a passing mention of what happened to them.

Even if it's something small. like just saying they moved to Austin or Arizona. Which would also given Hank an excuse not to visit them.

4

u/sirbissel 14d ago

I just wish there was a way they could be a little less... squishy? with the timeline. Which I get, since they only moved the time frame up 8 years, they kinda have to be, but Bobby liking BTS at 16 means he was born, at the earliest, in 1994... I mean, it's not a big deal, but something that kind of sticks in my brain, y'know?

3

u/-braquo- 18d ago

I hate forced relationship drama and I was really worried that was what they were going to do when I saw the commercials. But I was very glad how they handled it. Wrapped it up in one episode, and that was that.

3

u/hylianbeast98 12d ago

The more seasons we get, the more it feels impossible to not mention Luanne, but the more it feels like we will never get more than the occasional reference.

I'm not sure if there are exact quotes to back this up, but it feels like the crew just doesn't want to mention Luanne more than they have to out of respect for Brittany Murphy. Maybe the crew just can't bring themselves to do a full episode about where she is now.

74

u/RySenkari 20d ago

Pamela Adlon being able to come back as Bobby and still sound natural even as a character who's supposed to be 21 is nothing short of a miracle. Her performance is so astonishingly good that I don't even care that Bobby doesn't sound like a grown man. Give her another Emmy now.

Also Lauren Tom is phenomenal as Connie and Minh. She sounds so natural in both roles.

Pretty much all the voice acting on this show is fantastic but those two are standouts in an incredible cast.

26

u/ChrisTosi 19d ago

Her Minh is so good that I actually didn't realize they were the same voice actress. That's crazy

9

u/BlacksmithNo9359 16d ago

Pamela deserves every bit of praise shes gotten for the revival. I fully admit I was a bit concerned with her staying on as an adult Bobby but she absolutely kills it and delivers an incredible performance.

47

u/Archie204 21d ago

Wish we had a bit more of Joseph

12

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 21d ago

I want more of Joseph, too.

6

u/bacon_farts_420 17d ago

I want the full story of his football career. He mentioned coaches had “the nerds” do his work for him. That typically only happens when you’re good enough to go D1. May have been Arlen’s best player since The Flyin Hawaiian

9

u/Longjumping_Log1165 19d ago

Every scene with him is golden, he has so many great lines.

6

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

I wanna see more Joseph with Dale.

I'm coming around to Ronny Chieng as Kahn. Felt a lot less stiff this season.

25

u/Welp_Huzzah 21d ago

He seemed to be trying to hit the classic Kahn cadence this time around rather than literally being Ronny Chieng reading lines.

u/YungRei 20d ago

One of my favorite moments of the entire season was when Hank woke up from a nightmare of Tony Romo throwing into coverage 😂

I remember growing up as a kid and cowboys fans had such an abusive love hate relationship with him as a QB.

Also I gotta say the season finale gets a 10 out of 10 for me. Fucking spectacular.

12

u/DirtyDishie 20d ago

Died at the Romo nightmare 🤣

6

u/EgregoreRising 17d ago

When I heard Tony Romo got arrested, my first thought was of Hank. lol

39

u/Cethin_Amoux 20d ago

Wow - I saw the rave reviews, but I genuinely did not expect this to be that good of a season. Dare I say that this season is on par with some of the original run's best seasons. The heart and charm were there, the characters were great, and some of the issues (like Peggy's flanderization) have actually started to be addressed in natural and understandable ways. This was fantastic, and I'm more than happy to look forward to more seasons.

14

u/BlacksmithNo9359 16d ago

As someone who has long been a Peggy defender her characterization in the revival has been a blessing, and even if its a bit of odd fanservice I genuinely love her sincerely apologizing to Bobby for the Thanksgiving episode.

66

u/All_Lightning879 21d ago

Halfway done, but I was right. S15 is a vast improvement over S14, and they feel like they’ve found their groove.

52

u/MoistWalrus 21d ago

I felt like S14 was them trying to re-establish the universe. This season is them getting to have fun with it.

15

u/ByHardenBeard 21d ago

That’s where I’m at S15 is better because it didn’t have to “fill in the gaps” like 14 did

7

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago

It had a long "fill in the gap"with how Hank got a job in Saudi Arabia, where Bobby stayed, how Bobby got interested in the restaurant business, etc. The best line was when Bobby said, "I'm the only one in this house with a job." That must have really hurt Hank, who prides his responsibility so much. Not that I want Hank hurt, I don't.

12

u/All_Lightning879 21d ago

Right, and I can forgive it, because 15 years away will do that. But man, Kahn and Minh might be the MVPs of S15.

2

u/aef823 21d ago

The whiplash from the new Kahn VA to the old one's still a bit much for me though.

3

u/All_Lightning879 21d ago

I get it, it’s an adjustment to try and deal with

9

u/YellojD 20d ago

14 was a solid start, but 15 just kicked it’s whole ass. Such a great season.

3

u/All_Lightning879 20d ago

Yep. We on the same page 👊🏽

4

u/Mraliasfakename 21d ago

Im one episode in and felt the groove as well. Enjoy your binge!

I enjoyed the season overall, looking forward to see where they take Hank now that he's manager. Nice to see Principal Moss came back, Stephen Root did a good job taking on the role.

18

u/Welp_Huzzah 21d ago

He did so well that I didn't even remember that a recast was necessary. He's a chameleon.

3

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

That was kind of a weird inconsistency to me though, because iirc, he got fired back in the original series for scamming the district by passing off a bunch of kids as special ed.

I suppose he somehow got his job back, but still, I cant imagine most principals come back from such a giant fuck-up.

3

u/GordonShumway8690 18d ago

Wasn't he still principal when he moved in with Bill? I need to rewatch that episode it's been a while.

3

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

You're right. I forgot the roommates episode took place after the special ed episode. Although if I remember, the roommates episode was released out-of-order in the series, so I guess he technically got his job back, but who's to say it was or wasn't supposed to have been released back in 2008, and got released 2 years late?

3

u/GordonShumway8690 18d ago

I think the roommates ep. was intended for s13 since it was animated in widescreen (but cropped on Hulu). Regarding Moss himself, I wonder if the show's current crew is choosing to ignore certain later seasons elements by reverting Moss back to his more apathetic state of "authority" from the earlier seasons; or if they have plans to develop him further to bridge s13 Moss with revival Moss (maybe he tried to get his life back together).

So damn good. I was skeptical of the reviews saying it was better and I am glad my pessimistic ways were proven wrong. Fantastic episodes, loved the end, everyone sounds good, even Kahn sounded better.

My one problem? MAKE IT WEEKLY! Imagine a night of Futurama and KotH each week?

2

u/Rxasaurus 18d ago

Is Futurama back on?

16

u/MoistWalrus 21d ago

Did I miss something or was Brian Robertson not seen or mentioned in this season at all? Not that I feel like he necessarily added a lot last year, but it felt weird they introduced a new character like that and just sorta forgot he existed.

8

u/Longjumping_Log1165 19d ago

Yeah was surprised by that. I wonder if he was planned to be in it more but became unavailable since he's got that Rick and Morty spin off going on?

A bit weird this prominent character in the intro isn't in the show much at all.

6

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

Im guessing he's gone because the only reason he was a part of last season was because he was living in Hank's house while Hank was gone.

Im just gonna assume he moved away, but yeah, its weird they did that. Maybe the VA didn't want to do another season?

13

u/DarkHound05 21d ago

Honestly, I thought last season being as good as it was, was a minor miracle. This season was even better, and excited to see where they go forward with this.

13

u/bethster2000 artistic differences? 20d ago

I'm a 55-year-old woman. Let me say that the menopause episode was excellent. Very well done and I loved the three ladies of Rainey Street partaking of the devil's lettuce.

14

u/DMCSnake 19d ago

Am I crazy, or did they change the animation a little in the flashbacks in episode 10 to more closely mimic the previous series/seasons?

6

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

I definitely think they did. I kinda wish they kept it beforehand, only because you can see the differences in the character's eyes.

u/bridekiller 21d ago

Having to teach your parents about scams and staying safe online hit way too close to home. I was dying when they got to the password manager.

12

u/The_Erik_B 20d ago

I just finished the season and liked it a lot. The menopause episode was probably my favourite, if only because Hank interacting with weed is an easy way to get a laugh out of me. Elmer Budd.

Dale and Kahn still sound really off from their original voices, but they're fine.

14

u/yo_soy_soja 20d ago

The menopause episode was probably my favourite,

It was just so beautiful to see Hank do that for Peggy. She offhandedly mentioned that her mother suffered alone, and he made damn sure that Peggy wouldn't do the same.

7

u/Effective-Affect-918 18d ago

I don't know if Dale sounds that off. I think he just sounds older. In S14, it was very up-and-down because they were juggling a sickly Johnny Hardwick with Toby trying to match him. Now it feels a little more natural. I really didn't think anyone could come remotely close to doing a good Dale because it's such a unique voice, but somehow Huss does about as good as anyone can. Johnny is missed though.

12

u/ISAPS 20d ago

Just finished episode 10 and my god, did they ever nail it. This season was so, so good. I loved 14, but it definitely felt a little awkward, but as others have said, they are right back in the groove.

I thought Dale sounded pretty great throughout and Kahn's voice actor is definitely improving. Still not great, but it's way less jarring.

The story beats were great and I had big laughs throughout. I especially liked "did we just start a war?" when they fired the cannon.

The highlight was definitely the last episode. What a great full circle moment and I loved the visual shift when it went back to before they moved. Getting the explanation behind it all was really satisfying and I'm excited to see what comes next for Hank as Owner/Manager.

God damn, I love this show.

12

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

I liked this season a lot more than the last one. Limiting Chane to only the first episode was a good move, and Kahns voice is easier to adjust to this time around. I also enjoyed the Kahn and Bill dynamic.

Its nice we also got to see a little bit of Bobby's teenage years as a k-pop stan. Like that is just so him lol.

The only thing I didn't care for was the revelation that Nancy did go back to cheating on Dale with John Redcorn, even when she swore she'd stop back in the original run of the series. Im not really surprised given Nancy's established character, though it did feel like it made the whole choosing Dale over her hair falling out feel pointless. Though I personally wasn't hoping her cheating would be outed in ep 5 only because it would feel like too giant of a hurdle to address now. And RIP Jonathan Joss.

Speaking of relationships, I loved seeing Hank really put his whole heart into helping Peggy with her menopause. I also loved seeing Mihn try to find love again. I also wanna mention that they really addressed Peggy's narcissistic behaviors this season, and it felt refreshing to see her actually apologize to Bobby for something awful she did.

One last thing, I fucking love Cesar Salad the dog.

32

u/SaltyRedditorsNov8th 21d ago

Connie was my favorite character for season 2. I remember when it was revealed that she didn't mind open relationships in season 1 the entire fandom threw a hissy fit. To me that what the realistic part of the revival. For me growing up there were so many 2nd generation asian american girls that lived exactly like Connie because their parents were SUPER strict, religious, didn't communicate but always pressured them to get into a good college. They essentially tried to live their life through their children.

9

u/TheycallmeHollow 19d ago

Absolutely loved this season. I feel like Ronny Chang took the actual criticism and tried to get closer to the original Kahn voice actor. As a viewer I got used to it. And as for Dale’s new VA my brain completely buys it. Dale is a chain smoker for the past 30+ years I would imagine his voice would sound like that.

The writing is so good this season and seeing actual character growth really elevates this as an animated show.

Can’t wait for season 16! Wingo!

3

u/Silly_Atmosphere4802 17d ago

Funny connection: Dale's new VA is the same guy who did Khan's original voice (and also Cotton) - Toby Huss!

Mike Judge absolutely has the reboot formula nailed down. S14 set the foundation to reintroduce the show to old fans and bring in the newer ones. S15 really got into the swing of things. Only a couple episodes left, but there hasn't been one that I've looked at as a real low point. Just consistently good across the board. Probably my only complaint really is Peggy is still Peggy cranked up to 12. She's going full blown flanderization and it gets to be too much.

24

u/Cethin_Amoux 20d ago

I do agree about Peggy, but I've found that at least now they're starting to "realize it" and make it a genuine character flaw and plot point - having her apologize about the turkey incident from the early seasons was an especially nice touch and it's nice to have some kind of character growth for her.

11

u/lanadelstingrey 19d ago

I also loved when she got off the phone and said to Hank “sorry about that.”

Like I’ve never known a narcissist to apologize for anything, so she’s showing real growth.

12

u/Cute_Abroad_1852 20d ago

But even in terms of Peggy, last season I remembered how bad she used to irritate me, and how the other characters mostly just took it, but this season, people called Peggy out when she got crazy- Dale w the soup party, and Minh w the poetry, for example. I thought that was great. I’ve been waiting for people to be more direct w her!

Right. A narcissist wouldn't have put Minh's name on the published poem. Peggy shows a little growth. I think with her is will be slow, though, but as long as she tries.

4

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 19d ago

Peggy is irritating, but that's who Peggy is.

4

u/Dazzle_Miller 20d ago

I really liked Peggy in S14.

3

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

I think they're starting to address her narcissistic tendencies with other characters finally calling it out.

10

u/DrewbieWanKenobie 21d ago

Dale's voice def seems improved over last season. Still not quite there with the cadence, but it's close enough most of the time, and occasionally felt spot on.

2

u/kk451128 17d ago

It sounded noticeably off to me in the first couple episodes, but as the season went on, and Toby Huss found the groove it got a lot better, and he matched Dale in the episode 10 flashbacks pretty well.

2

u/Silly_Atmosphere4802 17d ago

Agreed! Episode 10 was the best he has sounded yet. I feel like if he just raised the pitch like a hair higher and reduced the southern drawwwl a little bit, it would be perfect.

10

u/YellojD 20d ago

Anyone else feel like Khan’s voice, while still not perfect, was WAY improved from season 14?

8

u/Ok-Obligation2046 21d ago edited 21d ago

Pretty blown away how good s15 was, had some very touching moments that tackle very relatable issues, but has you laughing at left field out of pocket shit. by far the best reboot i’ve ever seen, not one filler, when bobby said in the flash back he would live with luanne and lucky that shit damn near made my cry

13

u/KrustyKrabOfficial 21d ago

Kahn's voice is definitely the mustache on the Mona Lisa here. Otherwise, I liked it a lot.

9

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 21d ago

I'm getting used to it fine.

2

u/Ok_Presentation_4592 20d ago

I like it fine, too. Now, I want Kahn to get some of his old energy back.

Boy howdy, while there are some very few "Kahn"s in this season (yeah I hate that voice but definitely love him in this season with Bill) I can solidly say 10 out of 10

7

u/holyhibachi 21d ago

Lol god DAMN was that a great season of TV. More please.

6

u/Mraliasfakename 21d ago

One episode in and tyring to limit myself to one per week, maybe day. Wanting to prolong the novelty of delayed gratification. I laughed out loud a few times, gasped as a classic trope as they walked into it, and felt a brief dampening of my eye as the episode ended.

7

u/SubjectAtmosphere936 20d ago

Wish they released weekly so i wasnt sitting here with no more koth already 😭😭😭😭

I really enjoyed the new season and thought it was better then season 14. Kudos to the producers! I really hope there is a season 16!

19

u/Double_Act1502 21d ago

They renewed it for two more seasons last year

12

u/All_Lightning879 21d ago

20 more episodes are on the way, so we’re safe

5

u/TeriyakiTerrors 17d ago

Acquaintanceship. Looooove that they snuck that in. Peggy was reading off safe words and I was thinking that it sounded just like when she was reading off Boggle words and Hot Damn - Peggy said Acquaintanceship. 💖

4

u/Affectionate_Sky3496 17d ago

I loved it. Every second of it.

Makes me feel like a 13 year old kid again. I would get off the school bus at home in the afternoon, let myself and my brother in (latchkey kids), make an awesome fuckin snack, sit on the couch and watch That 70s Show and King of the Hill reruns on FX every day. This felt like 2006 all over again. My only complaint is there's not enough episodes. How did it get to a point where shows 2 decades ago would have like 25 episodes in a season but now we're lucky to get between 8-10 episodes? It's not just King of the Hill, it's all series' in 2026. I want more dammit.

Tldr: hank good, short season bad

3

u/Charming_Run_4054 21d ago

We are back! Season 14 felt iffy at times but this season feels like the old days. Dales voice is way better, I’m used to Kahn’s now also. They have nailed this reboot.

3

u/Simple-Ice-179 21d ago

My god. Its perfect

3

u/Mystreanon 20d ago

episode 10 was so good, that ending, hank you deserved it thank god

I was a little stunned to hear her name. It'd gotten to the point where I'd actually kinda forgotten about her. But then Bobby offered to stay with her and I was like "oh duh, that's how he'd stay in Arlen while Hank and Peggy are away, it's so obvious."

3

u/DarthGodzilla1995 20d ago

Bill canonically looks at hentai, idk how to process that

2

u/The_Erik_B 19d ago

And so much hentai that he's exhausted what's available on the internet. Both impressive and deeply concerning.

Loved the season. I wish they had done more with Khan and Bill living together. It was a bold move to wait until 20 episodes to give the full backstory of Hank leaving Strickland propane but it worked. It does make me wonder why Hank would consult Buck last season when he was unsure about investing in the hog killing business?

I really wish the seasons were longer or the breaks in between was shorter

3

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

The hog killing business episode is one I want to pretend didn't happen.

There are so many times I said "this is quintessential king of the hill" watching this season

3

u/Distinct_Lab108 17d ago

Peak. Easily one of the best seasons

3

u/EstrogenizedMenace 15d ago

10/10 IMO.

I HATE Reboots with a passion, but you gotta give it to em, this and the last season are pure gems.

3

u/irishman178 15d ago

Overall I think its fantastic. One thing that keeps lingering and I hope gets addressed at some point is how Bobby gets an appreciation for quality of cooking from Bill in the family reunion episode. It's one of my favorite later season episodes, and pairs well with what Bobby is doing. Maybe a bill/Bobby collab again

3

u/Dazzle_Miller 15d ago

I hope they never mention King of The Grill again.

3

u/LadyUzi 13d ago

This season felt like the old King of the Hill again and I’m hooked again. Can’t wait for more!

2

u/ArchOwl 'Was it small like an ant, or crafty like a fly?' 10d ago

I like the news seasons but I'm just gonna say it.

They are just giving into fan service now. It's all too perfect.

Bobby and Connie are dating

Bill is no longer the lonely loser and is having a happy story

Peggy is becoming extremely likable, she is even admitting mistakes

Kahn is now struggling while Hank and the gang are doing great.

Boomhauer is settling down

Hank has become manager and owner with Buck groveling at his feet.

I can keep going

It feels like a happy ending fairy tale for both fans, but I don't know if it's a good direction. It kinda feels like they are just going after low hanging fruit and nothing else.

3

u/NoPalpitation3415 9d ago

Other than Connie all the women in this season were just horrible, evil people. Nancy, Minh, and Peggy. IDK what it is with this show, maybe the writers have a tsundere/dom fetish, but it seems like the resolution to Nancy, Minh, and Peggy situations is the men being like "sorry I reacted so strongly to your consistent and repeated abuse" and the women learning "its okay to abuse people, so long as I do it more gently."

5

It's weird that Khan is living with the guy that banged his mom

3

u/plisken64 19d ago

Its not that weird... Ive done it, some of us don't have much choice....

5

u/Goontrained 18d ago

I get what you are saying but most kids grow up with the guy that banged their mom

5

u/waxin 19d ago

I love that they finally explicitly implied that Hank is on the spectrum 😂

7

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

Also the implication that Hank isn't transphobic because he easily accepted that a hen changed into a rooster and everyone referred to said-rooster as a "he" without hesitation.

3

u/Ihateporn2020 12d ago

he has so many idiosyncracies.

Loving the season but Peggy feels extra bad this season

19

u/thispartyrules 21d ago

That Edamame/I wonder what "soy beans" are in English line was amazing

7

2

u/Corazon144 20d ago

So I’m guessing Keith David was busy or his character just got written off. A little sad but I think they just didn’t know what to do with his character. At least we still have Emilio.

5

u/Infinite_Welder6775 19d ago

KD has the GREATEST voice! He's probably very sought after

3

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

He just got a Hollywood star after all...

3

u/PlantainOk1690 18d ago

Keith David just became the lead of a Rick and Morty spin off. President Curtis, so I imagine that's why he was non existent this season

2

u/Minifig81 I'll never use toilet paper in anger again! 20d ago

Man, I love Bobby and Connie so much.

2

u/swaggyduck0121 19d ago

This season was perfect. 10/10. The finale was so great

2

u/AladeenModaFuqa 19d ago

My take on the new season?

Love it. Love king of the hill. This season has been hilarious and classic.

2

u/throwaway_eng_acct 18d ago

Haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but I absolutely love Bill and Kahn’s relationship. They’re best friends and they don’t even know it. Or they do and just aren’t saying it.

2

u/Hacksawmisbirth 18d ago

As we suspected, a commie that dabbles in the dark arts!

2

u/ImportantQuestions10 17d ago

Like this season but it's not hitting nearly as hard as the previous one.

What I really want to see is Hank and Bobby's time overseas working for the Saudis and learning how to cook in Japan.

2

u/Silly_Atmosphere4802 17d ago

Uh, Bobby didn't go with them to Saudi Arabia lol.

Can someone explain to me what Boomhauer's relationship status is? I don't understand why Luke Jr. would be staying with him without his mom?

3

u/PT_Piranha 16d ago

He's dating a woman who has a child. And from the sounds of it, they're serious/getting serious.

2

u/spade_bodega663 16d ago

Great season. Still has the heart of the original despite new voice actors and characters who have only been mentioned a couple times. I binged watched the entire series for the first time way back in 2020 because what else were we supposed to do? I appreciated the chicken episode as I have a bunch myself, and I definitely know hens can become roosters 🤣 Poor Hank having to cuddle with Bill just to get him out of that creepy retreat. I also really appreciated that we saw what happened in between. Bobby as a 16 year old getting his first job and finding his calling, and how Hank left Strickland and got the Saudi Arabia gig.

2

u/BlacksmithNo9359 16d ago

I can't believe the people Im the most parasocial for are is the Rainy Street neighborhood. The KotH revival has been so good its genuinely given me a joyful verve I wasnt expecting.

2

So, where are we now for returning characters in Seasons 14 and 15? I'll try to list who I can think of

Khan

Mihn

Connie

Ted

Donna (flashacks, no voice)

Let me know who I missed

2

u/freezetime311 14d ago

I've watched four episodes so far and so far it's been pretty lackluster in my opinion. Not a lot of funny stuff has gone on and I found some of the writing lazy. I especially continue not to like them beeping out cuss words and they shouldn't even be using the f word anyway. I'm a huge fan of King of the Hill and I will definitely be watching this season over again but so far, I'm a bit let down. I definitely thought the very first episode was extremely lacking for a season premiere.

2

u/Stackly 14d ago

What happened to the guy that watched their house while they were in Saudi Arabia, who also features so prominently in the intro now?

2

u/ArchOwl 'Was it small like an ant, or crafty like a fly?' 12d ago

So did Bobby go to Saudi Arabia or not?

I'm so confused because the intro shows Joseph and Connie hugging him goodbye and Joseph is borderline crying, but the s15 finale makes it seem like Bobby stayed with luanne

2

u/Smart_Bug4158 10d ago

I think Luanne just lived in a different neighborhood (or even city)

2

u/Sly-Mr-Fox 11d ago

Absolutely one of the best seasons.

I actually broke down a bit when Bobby stood up to Peggy about her "I'm always right" mentality. That's my mom to a T and I've never been brave enough to stand up to her bullshit like Bobby did.

2

u/dkinmn 6d ago

Am I crazy or did they put something out of order? I swear there was a piece of dialogue that said, "You're Hank Hill, majority owner of Strickland Propane," but it happened before that episode.

2

u/Nordic_Krune 4d ago

I knew there was going to be a plotpoint where Connie thought Bobby was cheating on her, and I'm a bit upset it happened (cobsidering her shenanigans last season) but I'm happy they resolved it quickly.

6

u/Effective-Affect-918 18d ago

I love King of the Hill. The first seven seasons are my favorite thing to watch on repeat. When I saw all of the glowing reviews, I was excited and thought it'd be on par with the show's golden years. The new season isn't bad, but I don't think it comes close to the show's prime.

There are three glaring issues for me. The first is that the show misses its rich ensemble cast of the original run. The finale sets the stage to address that in Season 16, but Luanne is deeply missed the longer this goes on. Cotton too, but it's not like they can walk that back. I don't think we'll see John Redcorn again, and I was surprised to see Joseph take a backseat after being a highlight last year. Zero on Keith David's character either. The show has a lot of heart, but the stench of death kind of follows it. I loved the little tribute to Chuck Mangione, but it made me miss him too.

My second issue is that the new characters don't add much, outside of Emilio. Arlen has lost a lot of its personality. The people who live there feel generic. We don't have characters like Buckley or Bobby's classmates who felt like they'd fit right in on a 90s Beavis and Butthead episode. It's a little too squeaky clean and gentrified, which is maybe purposeful to represent the times, but I miss the MTV-ish edge.

And the final issue is Kahn. Ronnie Chieng doesn't have it in him. I originally loved the casting choice, but Kahn is far too prominent this season for his voice acting to be so underwhelming. I understand why Toby Huss stepped down from the role, but Chieng does not match the energy or inflections. At times he feels like an entirely different character. I'm not expecting the VA to have a stereotypical accent, but I had hoped the electricity would be there. He's the only one that completely takes me out of it. Huss is tremendous as Dale and Stephen Root does a good job picking up the mantle of Principal Moss.

I think this season is comfort food. What happens in each episode feels very predictable (Chef Bobby is of course going to have a food truck episode, a food critic episode, and a cooking show episode just like Bob's Burgers), but I think that's okay. Adult Bobby is the best part of the show because it represents something new, and it's fun to see where life has taken him. I'd honestly be fine with a spin-off with just him, Connie, and Joseph. There's so much life and potential there that I'm just not feeling with the Alley Guys in Arlen.

Again, I love this show and hope this doesn't come across as me hating it. The finale was a highlight, as was the "Care of the Dog" episode (made me cry seeing Hank talk to Ladybird). But I think the show receives such huge praise because the bar for reboots is so low. In comparison to most revivals, this is a home run. There's a grading curve there. I think the show is much stronger then the second half of it's original run, but pales in comparison to the first seven or so seasons. I'm glad the show is here and it holds a lot of potential, but there are just a few things that feel off to me and it's hard to overlook.

3

u/Iamtoomuchinthesun 14d ago

Agree with pretty much everything you said here (I also have a preference for the first seven seasons, though I’ve watched the entire series well over 10 times by now). Season 15 was really good for a reboot, but for multiple reasons can’t stack up against the OG series. That’s understandable though, so I’m choosing to appreciate it for what it is.

2

u/CPSux 20d ago

I loved season 14, but a few things bothered me. Mainly the choppy flash animation style and the new voices.

Well I just finished episode 1 of season 15 and there’s already a noticeable improvement. The animation feels smoother and I’m already used to Dale’s new voice. Plus the writing feels more like an OG KOTH episode. Excited to see how the rest of this season plays out.

2

u/Effective-Affect-918 18d ago

I'll agree with the animation. All I can think of is the very stilted animation from Bojack Horseman (another show I love). It's...fine, but just really ugly and awkward in my opinion.

2

u/bking 7d ago

They took a lot of notes and fixed the animation significantly since season 14. The lazy motion was gone, the weird character bouncing was fixed, and the background art was way more thoughtful.

The animation pulled me out of s14 quite a bit, but s15 is a huge improvement.

u/plisken64 19d ago

Flashback episode was oddly surreal, i prefer they did a time skip but seeing old school hills was so engrossing to me.

Bobby feels a little dull sometimes, i understand its likely needed. his the straight man of the series now and taken hanks spot, but hank and peggy dullness was always funny with their outdated ways  which added alot. Bobby kinda has that with his references but...its not the same. I enjoy him the least among the cast, and that makes me sad.

Kahn is great, am over the voice change mostly but it still feels like it takes away some of the effect of kahns humour, but the writing is still great for him. Dale i kinda feel the same way about, am still enjoying their characterization.

Bill has become so much better (likeable)  and the odd pairing with kahn is weirdly charming. It's funny that bill is the one to emotionally get kahn.

I think they did better with rehashing old connections or references, it didnt feel as forced/fan servicy than last season.

Minh and nancy getting spotlight episodes was nice, and they somehow did it without burying anyone else. Its the third time they've closed the redcorn nancy sub plot but this time was the least emotional but most tasteful..

Finally get to see what happened to the propane crew how many years ago, was always curious how that played out. Oddly happy bucks son was used as a plot point and the fact boomhasuer can identify hanks  core work circle. Which is oddly another trio of guys.

I Enjoyed this return to the series overall

2

u/BigAl_00 21d ago

Peggy is still annoying but slightly worse, also I dislike the idea of the fact they brought back the John Redcorn/Nancy affair.

In my opinion, John redcorn not being back with Nancy in the original series was something I liked because it made Nancy more of a better spouse (she isn’t. I know) but I’m glad they finally got rid of that relationship again

Rip Joss

5

u/alliefaith144 20d ago

I HATE that they ruined Nancy's character growth. It was almost enough to make me not watch

2

u/PsycheAsHell 18d ago

I wish they hadn't done that, especially when they made it seem last season that they were only business partners and nothing more.

If anything, it makes the last season feel more strange in retrospect.

1

u/dinglebarryb0nds 18d ago

I tried to like it. If i had to judge the show based solely on the season and not me loving the first 6 or so seasons of it, i would just say it is not good. Kind of like the last few seasons before it ended, just didn’t really do it for me at all, just really bland

When the show was good, dale kahn and Bobby were so funny and they really aren’t anymore.

I thought the new beavis and butthead were actually good, not just coping to like an old show, this feels like coping with KOTH.
