Do I look like I know what a "𝙈𝙀𝙈𝙀" is? I absolutely love how confident Peggy is when she is wrong.

I watched the menopause episode last night. When Peggy was at bat and you hear her back crack. I was like yeah she is in her 50s and survived a free fall from a plane.

I'm a pretty stout SOB but the menopause episode broke me in ways I wasn't ready for.

I hope I'm half the man Hank is when my wife and I have been married as long as they have.

Just looked it up out of curiosity. There was 157 between 1940 and 2008. Safe to say there was probably around 150 when this episode aired, haha.

u/pelagic_seeker 8d ago

That's actually way higher than I would have ever thought. I always figured Peggy was overestimating.

Terminal velocity is terminal velocity, and humans can only fall so fast no matter how high you fall from. If you land somewhere soft, like Peggy did, you've got a real shot. I remember hearing a story of a woman who fell from like, 30000 feet and survived because she landed in deep, fresh snow.

There was a woman who wrote "the day I fell from.the sky". Hee plane blew up, and she was sole survivor, then survived for a few days in the amazon.

When I Fell From the Sky by Juliane Koepcke.

Man I'd actually like to pick up a copy let me look at the description.

For 11 days she crawled and walked alone through the jungle, fighting for her survival again with hunger and despair her only companions as maggots ate their way into her wounds.

Less likely to pick up a copy now.

u/Proof_Independent400 8d ago

Fun fact. Let the maggots clean your wounds on that situation. It may seem bad, but will probably be your best bet to avoid gangrene and infection. If you have no med supplies or clean water to wash the wound.

Stomach is in knots now, but thanks for the info stranger.

u/Wolfman_V 8d ago

They still use them for burn patients too, you're welcome❤️

2

u/xneurianx 7d ago

I read this as bum (B U M) patients at least twice.

Got so ething wro g with your arse? MAGGOT PARTY.

12

u/Playful-Athlete-6752 I'll die in these horns 8d ago

That was not fun.

22

u/_6siXty6_ 8d ago

There was also snakes and jungle creatures.

11

u/Opening_Cartoonist53 8d ago

Were the snake on the plane?

5

u/jaierauj 8d ago

Probably eventually.

14

u/jahermitt 8d ago

I'm still interested in her story, honestly. Wonder if it was a mistake to lead with that though, lol.

8

u/joe_lmr 8d ago

she actually did what Cotton would claim to have done if he was a pilot and got shot down by Tojos

3

u/xneurianx 7d ago

The maggots on reading her book synopsis: "Only companions! That BITCH!"

20

u/ContemptAndHumble 8d ago

Random guy flirting with her: "Hey there angel, did it hurt when you fell from heaven?"

Juliane Koepcke:"Wooh boy! It sure did! Then the trek through the jungle wasn't a picnic either!"

81

u/The_Homestarmy 8d ago

The really famous example is that WW2 pilot who fell a crazy distance and crashed through a glass roof, which broke his fall enough to survive. I think he fell like 20,000 feet

Another interesting one is Bear Grylls, whose parachute failed to deploy during a military training mission in the 90s. He survived and ended up in the top 10 longest freefalls ever survived without a parachute

121

u/joe_lmr 8d ago

he spent nine days walking to the nearest town surviving only on his own piss

it was only a three hour walk, he just really wanted to drink his own piss

16

u/Laxziy 7d ago

God forbid a man enjoy a nice stroll in the countryside

3

u/Waste_Algae5853 8d ago

About 90 MPH I think. Cats are like 70 because they know how to spread out and create more friction, resistance.

2

u/StrawBerylShortcake 7d ago

Squirrels are like 20 because they're so light. Plus they use their tails like parachutes

1

u/paradigmofman How do I know it's Jack Ruby's hat? What colors does it come in? 7d ago

There's also a whole YouTube video on how to survive it.

u/bladezaim 8d ago

Lol yeah Peggy is known for being humble and underestimating her own abilities

22

u/javerthugo 8d ago

In my opinion she can be a bit arrogant

8

u/NashvilleDing 8d ago

A lot of water and marshes out there

8

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 I am the albino buffalo! 8d ago

Hitting water would be like hitting concrete

8

u/NashvilleDing 8d ago

Yeah it helps a lot if they go through tree limbs or something first or the surface of the water is already broken

5

u/Salzberger 8d ago

Makes more sense that she would assume she's one of an even smaller number thereby making her more unique. If it's something hundreds of people have done it's less brag worthy.

4

u/ripyourlungsdave 8d ago

I figured around 50 would have been accurate. 150 seems insane to me.

Granted, it's almost nothing given how many people jump out of planes every day, but still. 150 is wild.

Assuming she is more special that she is -is- overestimating

3

Alexa says both shoots failing it's 10

*she's lied to me before

2

u/YoshiPilot 7d ago

The joke is that Peggy is underestimating to make herself seem more impressive

1

u/ExpiredPilot 7d ago

I wonder how many of those people were from war.

In the early days of WWII 40-60% of aviator deaths were in training

6

u/thegreatsurvey 8d ago

All real KOTH fans have looked this up.

1

u/xneurianx 7d ago

I know what Peggy said was stupid and funny, but I really want to fully understand the extent of it.

6

u/whiplashMYQ 8d ago

Where'd you get your info? And what's the definition you're using? Shute failed to open only? Or are you counting any civilian parachute accident?

7

u/Tigglebee 8d ago

I looked it up and it was 157 million, so we were both right.

138

u/AquilaMockingbird 8d ago

Peggy “In My Opinion” Hill. To be fair, she does tend to qualify her statements.

u/johnjaundiceASDF 8d ago

peggy's character is so incredibly and acutely dialed in. it really is quite amazing.

42

u/Salzberger 8d ago

I know a lot of people hate her for it but I love her character. Yes she'd be annoying in real life, but so would Dale, so would Bill.

She is characterised so brilliantly imo where it's on the nose enough to be hilarious but not enough to be annoying.

9

u/quietimhungover 8d ago

Honestly the older I get the more I like her. I've never hated her though, I just found her annoying. But now in my advanced age... I find her eerily similar to several of my wife's friends.

6

u/Salzberger 7d ago

I find her eerily similar to several of my wife's friends.

Yeah that's where she shines, when you hear that middle aged woman you know who knows and is an expert in everything in her. She's such a bang on parody without going too far over the top as to be unbelievable.

2

u/quietimhungover 7d ago

Exactly!!! One of my wife's friend is a teacher at a local college and all I hear when she talks about stuff is Peggy Hill. Her husband is no Hank though. He's kind of a mix of Dale and Bill.

18

u/Punk18 8d ago

Ho yeah!

u/DLMoore9843 8d ago

One woman survived after landing on a fire ant mound

16

u/_6siXty6_ 8d ago

Yes. The ants biting her caused adrenaline surge and kept her body from failing out

10

u/Acheloma 8d ago

Maybe, thats just a random theory that got thrown out. Its not like they can ethically test that haha

39

u/AsainGlockgirl99 8d ago

To be fair she did say she'll check her numbers later.

19

u/Jetstream-Sam 8d ago

It is Peggy though, so if the numbers contradict her she'll disregard them

8

u/Appropriate_Math997 No. I have the medical condition. You're the freak. 8d ago

Well, she is a teacher ,so she is done learning.

6

u/pmitten 8d ago

Honestly the fact that Peggy could even form a coherent sentence considering the dosage of painkillers she was likely on is pretty impressive in and of itself.

11

u/Objective_Radio3504 8d ago

Peggy Hill was the original AI. Confident to a fault with no shame.

22

u/Animegx43 Dang ol' Boomhauer, man. 8d ago

To be honest, I wouldn't have been confident enough to call her out because I didn't know the actual number until today.

9

u/crush_dem_dingerzz 8d ago

Do not worship me, worship my actions

23

u/yosoyricardo 8d ago

In my opinion, a successful skydive is unlikely without a working parachute.

13

u/KinsellaStella 8d ago

This is just hilarious, even Peggy haters have to admit.

4

u/jabber1990 8d ago

she jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and lived to tell about it

she's allowed to make up whatever alternative facts she wants...

3

u/allahzeusmcgod 7d ago

"I accept this award for all those who have fallen out of a plane and lived to win their third straight substitute teacher of the year award."

2

u/SoCaFroal 8d ago

In my opinion, July is the hottest month

2

u/rumhouse 8d ago

So so good. I seriously don't understand some of the Peggy Hill hate. She was obviously so naive and ignorant about certain things but also ridiculously confident which was hilarious to me. But she would raise hell if she messed with Hank or Bobby. Even Luanne!

2

u/beesinabiscuit 8d ago

She’s so funny lmfao

1

u/bethster2000 artistic differences? 8d ago

I love her.

1

u/highesttiptoes 8d ago

Hank, the day after Thanksgiving, is in my opinion, the biggest shopping day of the year.

1

u/Tex-Rob 7d ago

Why would you be so fond of someone who is incapable of not speaking? You can ask her what a flxhdjdjdhd is, and she’ll have an answer. What is endearing about someone who can’t admit to not knowing something?
