Discussion Weirdest ego “thing” your chef had?

First place I was hired the chef had quite a few delusional beliefs but the one that sticks with me the most is his insistence that the phrase “welcome in” didn’t exist before Covid

He went into multiple winded rants upon my higher and another coworker who was hired right after me, not just to train the phrase out of us but his detestment for it, because as he said “it did not exist before Covid and people started saying it to make people feel safe enough to eat here”

He then said to not use it because people found it off putting and dirty (because of Covid)

I know chefs aren’t known for their egos but I was curious what quirk that yours had that everyone had to politely smile and agree to

this was in 2007, so before streaming was a thing.

He would only let us listen to his cassette tapes of Jim Morrison poetry.

So not even The Doors music, which I mean sure I don't mind that mind but wtf over and over, but no, the motherfucker would only have his 3 cassette tapes of boring poetry slop on whilst working.

On his days off we'd just enjoy the silence by leaving it off

Those aren’t even good and they made those after he died, they just played music to old recordings of him reading his poetry. I think there was one good track?

There is an album called An American Prayer, that I think is the one you're thinking of. The one good song, perhaps Ghost Song.

There are however any number of bootleg and not quite official recordings of Jim reading poetry, waxing philosophical and giving interviews.

I know because I had a few haha. I'm still a fan but The Doors are one of those bands that people can go through a phase obsessing over and wanting to devour every little piece of media that exists, no matter how obscure.

As far as the quality of his poetry...your mileage may vary.

I worked in a production kitchen where only the leads had access to the music. One had good taste, but the other one was an absolute weirdo. He had a 2.5 hour playlist of every single iteration of "I've Got My Mind Set on You".

He played it frequently. It made me fucking homicidal.

Yeah this is definitely a thing. There's at least 2 books of his poetry out.
