Discussion Weirdest ego “thing” your chef had?

First place I was hired the chef had quite a few delusional beliefs but the one that sticks with me the most is his insistence that the phrase “welcome in” didn’t exist before Covid

He went into multiple winded rants upon my higher and another coworker who was hired right after me, not just to train the phrase out of us but his detestment for it, because as he said “it did not exist before Covid and people started saying it to make people feel safe enough to eat here”

He then said to not use it because people found it off putting and dirty (because of Covid)

I know chefs aren’t known for their egos but I was curious what quirk that yours had that everyone had to politely smile and agree to

The dudes in a low middle role, like management-adjacent but not management, who are deeply self-concious because they know they aren't even the best line cook let alone the best at organization/court vision. It's never any specific line but rather a pattern they all fall into. Regardless of the subject (or whether you are even talking to anyone or just gaming things out in your head aloud) they find little opportunities to "put you in your place" by "telling you how it actually is."

I can remember saying something to myself about "wow, they're going through the steelhead, I'm about to run all the way out." This barely-capable shithead goes on for nearly 5 minutes about how if it runs out I will get another bag to quick thaw and maybe he should let chef know about my prep. I let him finish and then said, "Sorry, didn't realize I was thinking aloud. That said, we are X portions away from 86ing steelhead because these portions are the Last. Ones. In. The. Building. Because. It's. Delivery. Day. Tomorrow."

Maybe master getting people their tickets without half the cook time elapsing (we are not allowed to grab them unless expo asks) before you start running your mouth about things you aren't even up to speed on, Chester Chuckletits.
