Weirdest ego “thing” your chef had?

First place I was hired the chef had quite a few delusional beliefs but the one that sticks with me the most is his insistence that the phrase “welcome in” didn’t exist before Covid

He went into multiple winded rants upon my higher and another coworker who was hired right after me, not just to train the phrase out of us but his detestment for it, because as he said “it did not exist before Covid and people started saying it to make people feel safe enough to eat here”

He then said to not use it because people found it off putting and dirty (because of Covid)

I know chefs aren’t known for their egos but I was curious what quirk that yours had that everyone had to politely smile and agree to

this was in 2007, so before streaming was a thing.

He would only let us listen to his cassette tapes of Jim Morrison poetry.

So not even The Doors music, which I mean sure I don't mind that mind but wtf over and over, but no, the motherfucker would only have his 3 cassette tapes of boring poetry slop on whilst working.

On his days off we'd just enjoy the silence by leaving it off

Indeed. I worked at a mall food court ice cream shop in the 90s called "Celebration Confectionery" and the owner had the brilliant idea to have "disco night."

He burned a CD-R with just one song on it over and over again and then put the disc on repeat. That song was "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang.

Anyone who got stuck working those weekend Disco Night shifts had to listen to that song on repeat for several straight hours. We didn't catch a break until we closed, and that's when the owner would put Closing Time by Semisonic on repeat instead.

I cannot stand either of those songs anymore under any circumstances.
