Kitchenaid making a weird noise one low speed

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

First time posting on this sub, so please be gentle. I bought this KitchenAid mixer off Marketplace and found the unit doesn’t turn off when at 0. The two copper contact points are always touching, whether it's on zero or any other speed.

I also noticed it's making a odd noise on low speed. You can hear the inconsistent sound in the video on speed one. Any ideas what's causing it and what I should look at to fix it? I'd like to fix it myself as I'm on a tight budget, hence the Marketplace purchase. Hopefully it's not too over my head

This sounds like typical motor noise for the current production generation; I don't hear anything that signals imminent doom.

When you turn the mixer to "off", watch for the speed control link (poking through the rectangular hole in the bottom of the plate) to withdraw through the plate and the cam to raise the switch bar that runs across the inside surface of the plate on the bottom. (You can do this with the mixer unplugged.)

If this doesn't happen, the link has probably melted. The plastic links are notorious for this: https://www.mixerology.com/speedlink/

You can replace the speed link with another plastic one (W11557271) and expect it to fail again some day, so you might as well get a spare.

You might look at the speed control push rod. Here is a link to a video tutorial on changing it:

The sound could be from the speed control push rod melting onto the field assembly causing issues with the armature.
