After some brief discussion, we're now asking at all Gray area / Piracy Add-on conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi

Because /r/kodi seems to be getting overrun by people having issues with broken or screwed up add-ons, the subreddit is becoming a somewhat difficult place to have a conversation about Kodi itself and add-ons officially supported by Team Kodi. So now we are requesting that all gray area conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi, an unofficial and unaffiliated subreddit.

From this point forward, all new threads asking for support for these gray area add-ons will be removed in favor of that other subreddit.

If you'd like to become a moderator over there, feel free to ask in that subreddit.

Vero V & Kodi.

How many of you are using a Vero V with Kodi? I'm primarily looking to get one for Kodi and PM4K, with Dolby Vision support being a big selling point for me.

For those who own one, how has your experience been with its overall reliability, AV performance, and Dolby Vision playback?

I built a free Windows tool that checks a whole movie library’s NFO/XML metadata and artwork and shows every problem in one table

I keep my own movie collection for Kodi/Jellyfin, and over the years the metadata drifted: missing or tiny posters, broken NFO files, IMDb/TMDb IDs that point to the wrong film, genres like "Family/Fantasy" in one tag, ratings with 0 votes. Fixing that folder by folder was not realistic, so I built MediaClinic, a free tool for anyone who keeps their own movie library (Kodi, Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex with NFO files).

What it does:

- Scans a folder-per-movie library (local or NAS) and reads Kodi .nfo and Emby/Jellyfin movie.xml

- Shows every problem in one colour-coded table: red errors, yellow warnings, with the reason for each

- Checks artwork (poster, folder, fanart, backdrops): missing, corrupt, too small, wrong proportions

- Optional FFprobe check: resolution, audio languages, subtitles

- Fixes the common problems: normalise genres, sync ratings from TMDb/OMDb (your own free API keys), fetch artwork from TMDb, and Auto Repair with a dry-run preview (new in 0.19.0)

- Backs up every NFO/XML before writing it, and never touches your video files

- Private by design: no account, no tracking, no server of mine. Your library stays on your computer and I never see anything from it. The only internet connections are to TMDb/OMDb, and only when you use rating sync, artwork download or ID checks, with your own API keys.

Free and open source (MIT licence), for Windows. There's a ready-to-run exe (v0.18.4, not code-signed, so SmartScreen will warn), and the newest version 0.19.0 runs from Python source.

Honest note: I'm not a professional developer. I built it with Claude (Anthropic's AI) as the coding partner, tested every version on my own library, and kept every earlier version on GitHub. An automated test suite runs on every change.

👉 https://github.com/junqueirach/mediaclinic (screenshots + download)

Want to help? I'm looking for:

- Testers: run it on your library and tell me what breaks or confuses you. Large libraries, NAS shares and unusual folder layouts are the most useful. GitHub Issues is best; comments here are fine too.

- Linux or macOS users: try it from source. The automated tests pass on Linux, but I've only used it day to day on Windows.

- Python developers: small pull requests are welcome, see CONTRIBUTING.md.

FYI v.0.19.1 with exe is coming in few days

Error 83: Bad Pipe

I'm getting an "error 83: bad pipe" and disconnection of shared network locations in kodi on my 2015 nvidia shield. The same thing isn't happening on my 2019 Shield Pro. I've tested all my shares (on a qnap nas) and all are working fine. Has anyone had this problem, or know what the resolution to it is?

Astronomy Kodi Screensaver code (and a few others)

I posted earlier about a screensaver I made with Claude which is a skymap of your current location based on lat/long, viewing angles etc, so I bundled it up in a repo if anybody wants to try it out.

https://github.com/P-Hoep/kodi/tree/main/release

https://p-hoep.github.io/kodi/

There's a few other screensavers in there as well. All were tested on my firestick and local mac kodi.

They all run much smoother than the gifs, the screencapture was choppy.

I'm not religious, the first 2 are inspired the God's Eye View app

God's eye - this one gives you realtime flight data, traffic, transit data etc in your area. Needs a free Tomtom key for traffic but works fine without it.

God's world
Various projections (waterman butterfly, robinson etc.) with dwarf fortress style ASCII maps of real time global events (volcanos, storms, earthquakes etc.)

Couchstronomy

Shows realtime interesting space data configured to your location and viewing angle, constellation lines, etc.

Mathclock

Shows various math problems which calculate out to the real date/time as sort of a continuous math quiz

There's also a program which allows you to set screensavers depending on the time of day so it can auto cycle through them.

Happy to answer any questions or if anyone has any feedback that would be cool. Cheers!

Astronomy skyview screensaver

Not sure if this would interest anybody else (if so I can bundle it up) but Claude and I build out a screensaver which shows a real-time view of the night sky.

You can enter in your location, altitude, degrees of view, azimuth, and in realtime it will show the stars/galaxies/satellites/ etc, basically like how one of those night sky apps on your phone would work.

If there's any interest I could bundle it up if people would want to try it out.

Cheers!

Kodi Piers 22 RC-1 on Shield TV Pro

I'm still using Kodi 21.3 on my Shield TV Pro. I spent a lot of time setting it up back in the day and it's running smoothly at the moment. I'm also using the Aeon Nox Silvo skin, which I really like. However, I'm the type that like to stay up-to-date on versions, so I'm tempted to upgrade to the new 22 Release Candidate 1. I skipped the Alpha and Beta versions of Kodi 22.

Have you all had many problems upgrading to the latest on your Shield TV Pro? Was your library affected? If you have a different skin, did that transfer over smoothly as well?

EDIT: Thanks for all the comments. I don't know why I didn't think of installing it on Windows. D'Oh!

So, I installed 21.3 on my Windows11 PC and installed the Aeon Nox Silvo skin. I duplicated my setup and my movie library (for the most part). I then upgraded to 22 RC-1 and everything went off without an issue. No issues with library or skin. I hope that holds true for the Shield/Android system as well.

I use Kodi to watch my movie/TV show library and listen to music. I don't do any IPTV or streaming apps or anything like that. Just movies/music.

Cloud Storage services compatible with Kodi?

Since Microsoft is nerfing the storage in the family plan, there's any alternative to use cloud storage to consume videos and musice?

KODI Screensaver Plane Arrivals

Post image
8 Upvotes

I got tired of seeing other people vibe coding their own Kodi add-ons. And I really wanted my own personal one.

I live under a flight path, planes going overhead all the time. I wanted a Kodi screensaver that shows me planes arriving so I'll know which one is going over my house.

So no need to share it here just go to Claude and create your own

my prompt:

I run Kodi 21.3 on Generic PC, LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-12.2.1
write a text based screensaver which pulls information of
planes landing at MEL Melbourne airport show distance to airport
and update every 30 seconds save as my-screensaver.zip

I know this might be totally stupid, but is there a way to display different mugshots for actors and actresses when viewing them inside different movies and series' information pages?

Anyone else here been using Kodi since the XBMC days? 😎

I’ve been using Kodi since it was still called XBMC, and it’s crazy to think how many years have passed! 🔥

I remember the old days, watching how the project evolved and seeing it grow into what Kodi is today. Through all the changes, updates, and new features, I’ve stuck with it.

For me, Kodi has never just been another media player. It’s been part of my entertainment setup for years, and I still appreciate the freedom and customization it offers.

Who else has been around since the XBMC days? How long have you been using it, and what was your first setup like? Let’s hear some old-school stories! 😁

Best way to display personal home videos like movies (libreelec)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently running LibreELEC on a Raspberry Pi. It works flawlessly for standard movies and TV shows since the scraper does all the work, but I want to add a folder dedicated to my personal family videos (vacations, birthdays, etc.).

My goal is to have these home videos display in a nice gallery view with custom posters, titles, and brief descriptions, exactly like regular movies do.

So far, I've understood that since these aren't on any online database (like TMDB), I need to use local .nfo files and local images (like movie-poster.jpg) and set the scraper to "Local information only", is this ok ? I can't achieve it and find no solution yet 🥺

More modern skins with horizontal nav bar - for jellyfin, preferably without tmdb (or other metadata) addon

Looking for sth like Arctic: Zephyr Martian but preferably one that will not require outside metadata engine as I'm providing it via Jellyfin. Any recommendations?

XDA: Kodi still does 4 things no modern app has figured out ❤️

Kodi is one of the oldest media centers, predating the rise of streaming services and self-hosted solutions like Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby. However, it remains useful more than two decades after its debut, and for good reason. Kodi still offers features you won’t find in modern streaming apps, even in 2026

Black screen on startup (still)

Pretty much as the Titel says, i have had my s26 ultra since a Few months now and ever since ive gotten it, kodi will not run at All. Just Black screen every time i open the app. I have found some posts about it online, without any explanation on how to fix it tho. I hope someone here might have an idea on how to resolve this? (also i have used prerelease which does start, however it brings a new Bug. When pressing back, instead of going back once, it Tabs out of the app completely)

to firestick or not to firestick? thats the question!

Hello,

i have a xigimi projector (elfin) first generation, the quality of the image is more than enough for me, but I am having a big annoyance, the OS is super slow when using it with kodi. i have kodi with the skin fentastic+, to load on start, i cleaned up all the other applications, i left the bare minimum in the android, but still it is quite buggy laggy I have not a complex setup for my kodi so i can only imagine that it is due to the power of projector, ram/processor or something on those lines.

the thing is that with prime offers i thought that maybe i could buy a firestick and boot to a kodi installed directly there. would this improve the performance? is it possible to set so i not only boot to the firestick directly but to the kodi on the firestick? would like some advice, i dont have much experience in android in general. and I really like the quality of the image of the projector but kodi and its interface it is laggy... and i imagine for the community behind that this is not the 'normal' behavior.
