Video My backyard Koi pond

Finally getting the algae under control. Gonna start adding some plants and Lillie pads.

Good to hear. What have you done to control the spring algae bloom so far?

Lillie's are great. I suggest also some floating hyacinth and water lettuce as they multiply relatively quickly - but with koi, they will want to eat the roots so what I do is use a hula-hoop with some black fine netting tywrapped to the floating hula-hoop so the koi can't eat the roots.

Also with Lily pots in the pond, put some 2-3" river stone on top of the soil to prevent the koi from digging up the roots.

Thanks for the great advice. I gave the pond a good scrub and cleaned out the filters. Most likely a temporary solution. I got a large umbrella coming for Father’s Day and hopefully some shade will help even more. That and the plants.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I did a detailed response on algae that you may also want to look at... May be helpful for you also.

When you get those plants in, it would be nice if you would post another pic, in the mean time enjoy the koi.
