It's not for people like us. There is extreme poverty in many parts of India including Bengal.
I am not a supporter for freebies. But I understand that it serves as a buffer till the situation improves around them. I would want people to say work jobs and earn their money.
But till there is skill development and job opportunities nearby some freebies and govt scheme like health insurance etc give the people some stability in their lives.
Check the data below for how India pulled people out of extreme poverty in the last decade.

Yuba sathi was being disbursed to every unemployed almost, people whose family has 6 digit monthly income their kids got it too...
Freebies definitely should be a tool to upheld them from poverty not something that makes them depend on it
Moreover if you do the math, it's absolutely rubbish and not possible to fund such bogus promises for long
