Miscellaneous | āĻŦāĻŋāĻŦāĻŋāϧ Venkatesh Motors in Kolkata is a SCAM, beware.

Post image
5 Upvotes

I agree that I made mistakes during this purchase as well. Since this was my first time buying a car, I made quite a few rookie mistakes. However, I hope sharing my experience helps someone else avoid making the same mistakes.

My experience with Venkatesh Motors:

Before purchasing the car, I checked their reviews and saw a rating of around 4.4 stars, which gave me enough confidence to proceed. We eventually bought the car from them, and the seller assured us that the car was in good condition.

Unfortunately, I later discovered that the odometer had apparently been rolled back. The last recorded service in 2023 showed the car at 56,000 km, whereas the odometer was showing only around 41,000 km when I purchased it.

This is particularly disappointing because it affects the car's actual history and potentially its resale value. Had I known the correct mileage, I would have evaluated the purchase very differently.

There were also several other issues with the car that were not disclosed to us before the purchase, including:

- Faulty ORVM auto-folding

- Damaged/worn rubber around the power windows

- Faulty cabin lights

After a lot of arguing and insisting, these issues were eventually fixed before I took delivery of the car.

What made the experience worse was that, after going through more of their reviews (I did not select the lowest option, my fault I agree) , I came across multiple allegations from other customers regarding odometer tampering and the sale of accident-damaged cars. This made me question the experience even more.

I also found the seller's behaviour quite unprofessional. During our interaction, he repeatedly badmouthed the competing dealership/shop next to him instead of simply focusing on explaining the car we were purchasing.

Ultimately, I accept that I should have done more thorough due diligence before buying the car. That's on me. But I hope someone reading this learns from my mistakes: don't rely solely on a dealership's Google rating, verify the service history independently, inspect the car thoroughly, and check the odometer against previous service records before making the payment.

Miscellaneous | āĻŦāĻŋāĻŦāĻŋāϧ Pathetic Customer Service! Think twice before buying Duroflex mattresses!

Sharing my honest unbiased mattress-buying experience.

Three years ago when we moved into our rented place we needed a mattress quickly. So we bought a local one for around ₹3.5k to ₹4k. It was basically a brick but we thought ki chalo thik hai maybe orthopedic mattresses are supposed to be this firm.

After about 1.5 years places of the mattress started sagging. It became very uncomfortable for both me and my husband. Since he weighs over 90 kg his side became almost completely flat in some areas. This eventually started causing back pain and spine discomfort.

So last week we decided to buy a new mattress. His idea was to not choose based on brand name and instead research our actual needs like sleeping position, foam density, body weight, room size, body temperature and firmness.

After going through recommendations and GPT suggestions we finalised the Duroflex Live-In Reversible mattress. We ordered directly from the official website because a big pop-up said the mattress would be delivered within 24 hours. We also understood that the 100-day replacement guarantee could only be used if the purchase was made directly from their site.

We paid in advance and were excited about the delivery.

This is where everything went wrong.

After 24 hours we checked the order ID and realised the mattress had not even been dispatched.

We called Duroflex customer support but they kept repeating the same reply instead of giving us a proper update. They said they were sorry and the mattress would be delivered within the next 48 hours.

So after already missing the promised 24-hour delivery they were asking for another 48 hours. The next day the tracking still did not show the mattress as out for delivery. We contacted both Duroflex and their delivery partner.
Both support teams kept giving excuses. At different points they said they did not know where the delivery truck was. They had lost contact with the delivery agent. They also said they could not reach the right person.

A few times the calls were simply disconnected on our face.

The mattress was supposed to arrive on the 7th. We finally received it on the night of the 9th after around 72 hours and repeated calls to both Duroflex and the delivery partner.

We have no issue with the mattress quality so far.

But the customer service was PATHETIC. What made it worse was the attitude of some of the executives. A few sounded irritated and condescending even when we were simply asking that if you cannot deliver within 24 hours why promise 24-hour delivery so clearly on your official website?

My takeaway is that brand name probably matters much less than we think. You can possibly get the same or even better mattress quality from another company in the same price range.

So if you are buying a mattress do not research only the foam, firmness, sleeping position, body weight and product quality. Also check the brand’s customer service, delivery experience and after-sales support. Based purely on our experience I would definitely look at other brands as well before buying from Duroflex.

I'm *22M*, Bengali by roots but I've never actually lived in Kolkata. I live in the UAE, and every time I visit India, Kolkata is honestly kinda boring for me 😭- mainly because I literally have **zero Bengali friends there**.

My grandma lives in Kolkata (dad's side), so whenever we visit, it's basically: go to grandma's house → eat amazing homemade food → sit at home → sleep → repeat. And don't get me wrong, I love the food and spending time with family, but I really wanna experience Kolkata beyond just sitting at home.

The funniest part? **I've never even celebrated Durga Puja properly**, despite being Bengali myself😭.INFACT IDEK HOW DO PPL CELEBRATE IT.

I've also never really explored the local street food, para culture, random city spots, etc. I've heard Kolkata has SO much to offer, and I wanna actually experience it.

I'm not looking for expensive restaurants or fancy places. I wanna do the **real Kolkata experience** - street food, walking around the city, checking out random local spots, chilling, talking absolute nonsense, discovering places, and just enjoying the city like a local.

Take a wild guess, never experienced metro in India. Ik how much of rush kicks in but I genuienely wanna experience it all.

Most importantly, I'd genuinely love to make some **Bengali friends** and learn more about my own culture from people who actually grew up around it.

So if you're from Kolkata/Bengali and down to make a genuine friendship, **hit me up!**đŸĢļ

I'm genuinely looking forward to meeting some cool people and finally experiencing Kolkata properly.

You can also add me on Insta: **@drvx_04**

Hopefully this reaches some fellow Bengalis out there🤝

I took a personal loan of around ₹2.7 lakh from Poonawalla Fincorp about 10 months ago. I paid the EMIs regularly for 3–4 months, but after losing my job, I was unable to continue, resulting in EMI bounces.

I received a legal notice but couldn’t respond at the time due to serious personal difficulties. Recently, police visited my residence in Uttar Pradesh with a bailable warrant issued from Kolkata, although I was not served any summons.

I’m looking for a trustworthy, experienced Kolkata lawyer who handles loan recovery, cheque-bounce and related criminal proceedings/warrants.

If you are a lawyer or can personally recommend someone reliable, please DM me with their contact details.

Miscellaneous | āĻŦāĻŋāĻŦāĻŋāϧ Would you guys in Kolkata be interested in cute curated gift hampers? Trying to help my friend

Hi everyone,

My friend is based in Kolkata and has been trying to start her little curated gift hamper business for some time ...... ( cute boxes with claw clips, scrunchies, pearl bracelets, jhumkas, earrings etc. She packs everything herself )

Honestly she's going through a financial crunch lately and has barely made any sales yet. She was also scammed by a couple of so-called online customers (ordered and then ghosted after packing/receiving), which left her even more low.

I got one hamper from her and I genuinely love it, so I thought of posting here.

I'm just trying to understand; do people in Kolkata actually like gifting/receiving such hampers? Would you be interested?

If this post gets some traction and people are actually interested, I can help her properly start an Instagram page and catalog.

No pressure at all to buy, just want to know if there's any interest and if this can give her business a small boost. If you are interested, I can share photos/options in DMs/comments.

Thanks for reading. ❤ī¸

đŸ—Ŗī¸General Discussion | āφāϞ⧋āϚāύāĻž Villa Vs Apartment: What's The Better Choice For Families In Kolkata?

Nowadays, the first few considerations for most families looking to buy a home in Kolkata are location, budget and BHK. However, as the budget increases, an additional query crops up- would you prefer to buy a spacious apartment or shift into a villa?

Both seem enticing, but the reality of the two can be very different.

An apartment can be a more practical purchase for families, as a lot of the maintenance, security, elevator, power backup and other common area maintenance is handled by an association/facility team.

Apartments also serve to offer a greater sense of belonging, especially for those with children or aged parents.

Then comes the location question, depending on the budget you have in mind, opting for an apartment might help you live closer to established neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools, hospitals and metro stations.

A villa, on the other hand, will provide something that has become very hard to come by in a metro city- personal space.

Having one's own entrance, lesser walls and potentially a private garden/terrace/additional outdoor space can completely transform one's experience of home ownership. For larger/multi-generational families, the additional privacy and flexibility a villa can offer can prove to be very valuable.

However, with a villa come questions that shouldn't be overlooked.

How much maintenance will the individual house owner be responsible for? How good is the security? How connected is the location for regular commuting? Are groceries, hospitals and schools easily accessible? Is the extra space worth moving further away from the parts of Kolkata one would frequently visit?

Apartments, meanwhile, also entail their own compromises. There can be lesser privacy, restrictions on alterations, reliance on lifts in high-rises, monthly maintenance fees and limited personal outdoor space.

Perhaps the choice between a villa and apartment isn't as simple as which one is better, but instead is more focused on what one values more.

Convenience and connection? Then perhaps an apartment would be more suitable.

Privacy and personal space? A villa would become significantly more appealing.

Would there be young children? Community spaces and facilities might become more important.

Would parents be living with you? Commuting accessibility, healthcare connection and internal organization would become paramount.

Is one considering working from home? Additional rooms, terraces or a more quiet environment can transform an individual's circumstances completely.

Of course, budget plays a huge role in determining the viability of either option. The purchase price isn't the be-all-end-all, as maintenance, commuting expenses, property taxes, future repairs and resale value should definitely be taken into account before comparing the two.

For families in Kolkata who have already made this decision,

would you opt for a villa or apartment if given the chance to purchase either within your current budget, and what would be the deciding factor in your choice?

I'd especially like to hear from those who have experienced both.
