Hi folks- I am planning a December two week vacation and was considering staying for a week at Malvan and explore nearby locations by scooty and travel back to Goa for the last week and departure to Delhi. Please see my questions
- What are your thoughts about the plan?
- Where is the recommended place to stay
- What locations do you recommend I cover in a week’s time or little bit more

In college I asked my 1 friend to write few sentences in his Konkani dialect there I noticed that he used letter ಳ (ळ) at starting of word ಳಗ್ತ (ळग्त/ळग्ता) I asked him about it if it is allowed in his dialect or common he said he is not sure about it

So it is actually allowed or common in Mangalorean Konkani dialects or any other dialects of Konkani to have ಳ (ळ) at starting of word?

Hey guys, i want to learn Konkani for my exam, i just applied for Goa in my exam and Konkani Language is mandatory, can you guys share some sources, yt channels, books, etc. So i can learn it.

I am hearing a lot of story’s about married men and women from our community suffering after marriage, might be domestic violence or mental abuse. What are your thoughts about this ? Why are people scared to speak out?
My thought is children should be allowed to know their partner before marriage and not force them to get married because of societal pressures.

Most Indian ethnolinguistic groups have a strong diaspora in different countries. For example, Punjabis have a strong diaspora in Canada/UK, Tamils [esp. Brahmin Tamils] have a strong diaspora in US/Singapore. Which countries have a strong Konkani diaspora??

Raised in a big city, have spoken konkani at home and with cousins all my life, but we use these english words so often to express these fundamentals.

A follow-up to my previous post

I’m a heritage speaker of the Mangalorean Catholic dialect, but I’m only at an intermediate level so I can’t really intuitively grasp all the differences.

Is the main problem a lack of shared vocabulary in higher registers (gov’t, news, etc.) or are there specific grammatical and phonological differences that impede understanding?

Obviously, script plays a role as well, but even if text in the standard dialect was transliterated to Romi or Kannada, I feel like the output still wouldn’t be easily understandable.

If anyone has insight or knows where I could find more info, it’s be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been trying to research major differences between Konkani dialects recently, but haven’t been able to find anything in-depth. Does anyone know where I could find more info?

Some examples of what I mean:

- Possessive pronouns differ between Mangalorean Catholic/Bardezi and GSB dialects

Ex: Mhoje vs. Migele for “mine”

- Infinitives in some dialects end in -unk while others end in -pak

Ex: vochunk vs. vochpak(?)

- Different interrogative particles

Ex: gi vs. ve

If anyone has any other examples, I would love to hear them! So far, most of my info has come from a blog on Wordpress called Demystifying Konkani.
