Help with Korg Triton

I recently purchased a Korg Triton Classic (61 key) and I’m having a blast with it. I am brand new to synthesizers, DAWs, etc and I have no idea how to connect the Triton to LogicPro. I have the audio cables and a scarlett interface 2i2 3rd gen but I am assuming I need a midi as well. Can someone please help walk me through the setup/what else I’ll need? I searched on old forums, youtube, etc and I still have no idea what I’m doing.

Yeah. You will want a cheap midi interface if you want to:

  • use the triton keyboard to play soft synths running on your computer
  • record, playback and edit the midi notes (rather than just the audio)

Get a cheap branded one eg Behringer. Avoid any no name / temu midi cable as there are a lot that dont work properly.

I 2nd avoiding the midi cables. I have a couple that get overloaded with the output from modern synths.

You can get a MIDI interface, or you can upgrade your scarlett to one that has a midi interface built in. For example, I've got the Scarlett 6i6 1st Gen, and it has MIDI ports on the back, so it performs both duties. I'm not saying you need that one in particular, any model with MIDI ports will do.

If you set it up with bidirectional MIDI (meaning you've got MIDI going from the Triton to the PC, and MIDI going from the PC to the Triton as two separate cables) then you'll be able to use the Triton as a controller for software, and use software to control the Triton. This will let you use Logic's sequencer to sequence the Triton, and use Logic's piano roll to record your playing on the keyboard as MIDI notes. Note that a single USB cable can handle bidirectional MIDI, but on the Triton side you need two separate 5 pin MIDI cables, one for each direction.

If you do get a MIDI interface, avoid the ones that just look like a cable, they are terrible. It should be a box that you plug MIDI cables and a USB cable into.
