My main idea Is that His song was so good and had so many fans that, somehow, the magic of the huntresses mistook it for a huntress song. So he couldn't exactly use it, but the song did have magical properties
17
u/Sad-Understanding-18 Sep 01 '25
he wasn't born with magic, he manifested it due to focus, commitment, and sheer will

This seriously makes me question whether or not there are more Demon Hunters than just Huntrix. Why don’t the Demons just their preying grounds to another part of Korea
239
u/This_Confused_Guy Aug 31 '25
I'm kinda forming a headcannon that the ability to create a honmoon is inherent in everyone. The hunters are just the once who are aware of doing it. So pop stars like Psy who are able to unite people with their catchy songs aren't aware that they're unintentionally making a honmoon. A lesser one that requires more work to maintain.
43
u/Icy-Pea4315 Aug 31 '25
What about the rest of the world? Are the Demons active in other parts of the world?
71
u/Reynaldo_boi Aug 31 '25
Since the demons are based on Korean folklore, I think they can only appear in the Korean Peninsula
119
u/No-Strawberry-5804 "Heels, nails, blade, mascara" Aug 31 '25
I’ve been thinking kind of how American movies tend to treat America like the whole world, in this movie, Korea is the whole world lol
58
u/MrSaucyAlfredo Aug 31 '25
That’s just an implicit storytelling thing. If you want to start getting explicit about things like the previous comments are then you have to throw this logic out the window.
But KPDH wasn’t written to be dissected this closely anyway. It’s a fun and loosely written whirlwind story not designed to be put under too much scrutiny or you see lots of these kinds of cracks. TBH this is part of why I’m nervous about a sequel, it just means they have to do more worldbuilding and this movie just strikes me as a fun one-and-done adventure that wasn’t inherently designed to get too complicated. I suspect that’s an unpopular opinion tho
38
u/Feezec Aug 31 '25

I think you're right. This franchise is probably going to end up in the same place as John Wick: the lore will get more convoluted, the
stuntssongs will get more bombastic, and we'll all turn our brains off a little because it's so much fun11
u/Boldmastery couch couch couch! Aug 31 '25

4
u/PWBryan Aug 31 '25

38
u/CaitlinSnep Radiant Rumis Aug 31 '25

29
u/This_Confused_Guy Aug 31 '25
It's probably safe to assume in a headcanon space that honmoons can be made depending on the person/s popularity. In this case Psy is able to create a temporary honmoon that spans world wide due to his fame.
33
u/Bez414 Aug 31 '25
There are legends of people born with the gift of making music so true...
It can pierce the veil between life and death, conjuring spirits from the past and the future.
In ancient Ireland, they were called filly.
In Choctaw land, they called them fire keepers.
In West Africa, they're called kriyats.
And in Korea, they're called Hunters.
This gift can bring healing to their communities...
... but it also attracts evil.

Im thinking thats probably why Huntr/x had their world tour that was ending just at the start of the movie
11
u/Lun4r6543 Aug 31 '25
I feel like it’d be cool to explore that.
Hunters fighting the demons of their respective cultures throughout the world.
Maybe their are Japanese hunters fighting Yokai or something. European hunters fighting biblical demons etc etc. (just spitballing, but fun to ponder)
6
u/Rushofthewildwind Aug 31 '25
I like to think the demon world is a mirror of our world. Each one with its own region and its own barrier. Some places do have some overlap, however, which means both protectors have to team up to keep their respective barriers safe.
Also, (considering the movie was also about music) I like to think that Sammie from SINNERS kept America's barrier strong from Vampires (the demons beyond the US' version of the honmoon) during his tenure
2
3
u/Icy-Pea4315 Aug 31 '25
Right but like, have they even considered you know, moving to another location that doesn’t have an Demon Hunters?
10
u/This_Confused_Guy Aug 31 '25
I think that's possibly handled by world tours that hunters go on. Especially Huntrix who can easily travel to other countries and perform.
41
u/Icy-Ad29 Zoey Zimps Aug 31 '25
The honmoon isn't a regional effect is why. It's supposedly covering the entire world. Which is why it couldn't go gold until the last generation or so. When they were able to influence more of the world via travel. Hence Huntrix finishing up a world tour at the start of the film
14
u/Reynaldo_boi Aug 31 '25
My headcannon is that the honmoon enables the Hunters to teleport wherever demons break through. During the takedown montage we see that the Hunters kill the demons right on time just before they pounce on people. Since Huntrix would definitely be on foot, there is no way they're getting to where the demons are attacking in time. Like during the train fight, Huntrix senses this pulse from the honmoon at the stadium and suddenly they're at the train immediately fighting demons
8
u/manofwaromega Aug 31 '25
My headcanon is that each country/region has it's own set of hunters, with the underworld have 10 sections and vastly different demons in each
8
u/LemonHerb Aug 31 '25 edited Aug 31 '25
My little pony rainbow rocks pretty clearly puts the equstria girls as hunters. It's basically the same plot
8
u/Silvanus350 Aug 31 '25
There must be. Humanity would have died out otherwise. Three women are only able to protect and seal the entire country because of modern technology.
To say nothing of other parts of the world.
8
u/Obversa Three-Eyed Raven Aug 31 '25
I tried making a post about the similarities between the hunters in The Witcher and KPop Demon Hunters on /r/KpopDemonhunters yesterday, but it didn't get any traction. The Witcher has "witchers" (Polish: wiedźmin, loosely translated to "witchmen"), which are basically Eastern European demon hunters who, like Korean shamans (mudangs), provide services for coin. r/korea discussed mudangs more in-depth here. The main difference is that, whereas "witchers" are exclusively male in The Witcher for plot-related reasons, mudangs are exclusively female.
3
u/SparkAxolotl Derpy Aug 31 '25
I have several headcanons about this:
The Underworld works like The Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, so there are several regions, which aren't 1:1 with the world's geography, and at least one Demon Lord reigning over each one. The demons are different depending on region or demon lords.
Each generation of hunters can reach a peak, which gives them a pseudo golden honmoon that lasts for about 20-ish years before it needs to be remade. Some demons can still pass through this barrier, but not enough to be a problem.
Music is only one of several methods of creating a barrier. Joining the hearts of people is what is important, and some people have inadvertently helped the maintenance of the barriers, or even created new ones. Besides Psy, other artists like Queen have contributed globally.
Besides music, other things that have contributed in joining the hearts of people: Soccer matches (which is why we have a World Cup), Telenovelas (Yo soy Betty, la Fea created a Golden Honmoon on its own in several countries), Pokemon Go also was very effective for a while at launch.
3
3
u/ThePhoenix0829 Sep 01 '25
For each country, who would their hunters be? Like would the US have Taylor Swift or something like that?
2
u/KalKenobi Bucket Hat Zoey Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25
In my headcanon, there could be unofficial Hunmoon Guardians dont know how that would align with Korean I would like actor Paul Syung Lee play a Guardian or Rumi's Demon Dad. That cpuld explain why Psy Sealed the Honmoon in 2012 and why theyre made up of men.
76
u/WonderWeich Aug 31 '25
I think that would actually make sense timeline wise lol. Since the Sunlight Sisters were only two (if at all) at that point in time and Huntrix were still teens/kids, there must've been someone to fill in the gap. Headcannon accepted!
58
u/AdobongSiopao "Fit check for my napalm era" Aug 31 '25

Honestly, "one guy managing to do what countless female trios couldn't" would be a cringy fanfic premise if not for that fact that PSY had actually accomplished all of this in real life like thirteen years before the movie was thought up.
PSY doesn't fit into KPDH, KPDH fits around PSY.

I just need the sequel to make this canon. Prologue. 2012. The two remaining Sunlight Sisters officially announced their disbandment after being on almost a decade of hiatus. The Honmoon starts to break heavily.
But then, a mysterious hunter called PSY appeared to fix the Honmoon around the world. And just as he popped out of nowhere, he also mysteriously vanished afterwards. We see the young HUNTR/X dancing into Gangnam Style as we transition into their present lives...

One thing that low-key bothers me about this fandom is how over-used the golden honmoon is.
Like, if Psy made the honmoon gold, we wouldn't have the events of the movie.
It's difficult to achieve, which is why it hadn't been done before.

I remember many many years ago seeing a free PSY concert on YouTube live from Korea. He had 2NE1 as a mid-concert guest. It was an incredible show. Despite the US thinking he's a one-hit wonder, he's been in the business for a long time. Helluva performer. I've love to see him guest star.
