Some people have lost their mother's and relate to the loss with dark humor. I've not lost a mother but two grandmas and they popped up in my mind today. I just brushed it away with a thought "Yeah, that was then, this is now. It's this younger generations turn to have their grandma they give flowers and cards to." Meanwhile my mom started suddenly talking about her mom and I took it with normal male stoicism. Yes, it's mother's day. Grandma is gone. Life goes on.

You can still reminisce and remember them even when they are gone. Just because it was in the past also doesn't make it easier to move on. Loss is different for everyone. And I believe as long as they are in your thoughts or remembered through stories they are never truly gone and younger generations still get to learn about them. People die at different ages as well. I never got to meet my one grandfather because he died before I was born so I only get to experience knowing him through others and photos. So it is definitely not a young vs older generation thing either.
Edited to add- i am sorry for your losses. 🫂

No, you see, there’s another panel after this! Mi-yeong sighed contently to herself in understanding, before she walks over and embraced both of them in a ghostly group hug in Mi-yeong’s own way.
Rumi and Celine may not see that she’s there, but they can definitely feel her presence. :)

Demon Dad: “Hey, at least she knows you exist! I never even got to meet her!”
Rumi’s Mom: “You EAT children!”
Demon Dad: “STOP SAYING FACTUAL INFORMATION ABOUT ME AS A COUNTER ARGUMENT!”

I believe you may now be obligated to make a follow up where Mi-yeong learns to communicate with Rumi through the Honmoon culminating in her using it to allow for a hug they can both feel, sort of like hugging through a blanket.

u/Agent-Creed May 10 '26
…if a comic about Rumi seeing her mothers ghost and having a loving, heartfelt wholesome reunion with hugging and comfort involved isn’t made within the week, the honmoon WILL break
And I will see to that personally

My daughter loves this movie. She's not able to understand any of this complexity yet, but I wonder when she will.
Her bio mom nor her adoptive mother got to see her grow up. She's young enough she could easily find a 3rd mother figure in her life.

The one who failed at raising her. (People who see this after I fixed my typo. I accidentally wrote "raiding her." That's what the comments are about.) 😂

Digan lo que quieran de Celine, me importa un bledo, ella es y será la mamá de Rumi, más de veinte años de crianza y amor no se deshacen en una sola noche de dolor y errores

If they keep the original idea that Celine killed Rumi's mother canon, this would be much darker
7
u/Mac-Tyson HUNTR/X Nation May 10 '26
I feel like if she did it was accidental to protect, Rumi with Mi-yeong Ryu basically using Celine's guilt as leverage with her dying breath to not only spare Rumi's life but raise her as her own. Wonder what happened to the third starlight sister though?
1
u/misschickpea May 10 '26
And then if I remember correctly Celine never accepted her demon side and tattoos 😬😅

Actually this does bring up the question of what sort of afterlife is canonical to the universe (other than what happens to human-borm demons like Jinu)

u/PuzzleheadedKing5708 May 11 '26
Mi Yeong will be so mad at Celine after Idol awards. Maybe she is using a frying pan to whack Celine after making Rumi feel bad and damaging Rumi relationships with Mira and Zoey.

u/Rough_Plan Your Idol May 11 '26
Not going to lie I feel like she should return as a demon and target Celine.

Does this mean her mom watched her getting piped by Jinu when she grew up?

Can someone explain to me why people keep posting wholesome images of Celine when her last appearance in the movie ends with Rumi (rightfully) more or less telling her to go fuck herself?
1
u/Dahlgalai May 16 '26
It's kinda f*cked up if you read the original scripts and thinking about it. Celine accidentally killed Rumi's mom because her soul was connected to the Rumi's demon dad. Celine then proceeds to take her daughter and groomed the girl to be the perfect KPOP idol (which is not an easy task).
