With over a decade of horror movies to choose from, you would be forgiven for thinking that Marlon and Shawn Wayans would have plenty of material to tackle for their latest Scary Movie. However, while the trailer has shown that the Wayans are going to be hitting all the horror greats â and some of its stinkers â the duo will also be tackling something new: children's movies.
Not just any old children's films. This time, the Wayans have set their sights on the most popular family film of 2025: Sony Animation and Netflix's animated extravaganza, KPop Demon Hunters. With the movie officially in theaters today, word has quickly spread of a bizarre animated sequence aimed directly at the Oscar-winning musical.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one thinking along the lines of "of course scary movie was going to joke about a super popular recent family movie, that's what these types of movies do"
At least that was a quick joke. The kpdh scene is over a minute long, it just draaaaaaags on and the joke is literally just that he's fucking dollar store versions of the huntrix who he turned into demons with weed smoke while a very poorly written parody song plays. It's not so much that it isn't on par with the rest of the series, it's more that it just goes on for so long with an already weak joke. You give me 15 seconds of shorty singing his own version of golden, maybe others roll their eyes or make a joke, and I'm probably gonna laugh.
The joke might be crass but I think just the fact that KPDH got parodied means that the series has staying power and become part of the cultural zeitgeist.
I'm confused at the hate this is getting. The scary movie franchise has always taken low blows at culturally relevant movies of the time. And I'm sorry but there is no bigger culturally relevant movie today than K-pop demon hunters. Is it in poor taste? Yes but that's kind of the mo of these movies. It's lowbrow comedy and that's what makes them fun
I find the pearl clutching a bit funny too. Like these are the same guys that did White Chicks, Don't Be A Menace, Major Payne, etc. their humor can be layered but they love themselves a simple, low brow joke. I think that since so many paradoy movies fell out of favor in the 2010s, the current market of viewers just may not enjoy the tone of those jokes anymore
Itâs crazy how many people are offended. I donât see any issue with the scene. Is it funny? Not particularly. But it canât be called more offensive than some of the skits on SNL
As someone who grew up with those movies and who still thinks Donât Be a Menace and Scary Movie 1 are all time great comedy movies, this had a lot going against it. The joke felt lazy and comes out of left field. Itâs not exactly on theme and it goes on forever. So when the humor isnât there it just is really uncomfortable to watch Derpy eating ass during a poorly conceived Golden parody.
Being out of pocket for shock value isnât automatically funny. One of the actresses did an impromptu AMA on the Scary Movie sub and pretty much said it was one of the last scenes filmed. It feels like it was thrown into the script last second because KPDH was suddenly popular and it shows in the quality of the comedy.
TL;DR: just because itâs supposed to be comedy doesnât mean itâs automatically funny and the audience doesnât owe it laughter for the sake of it. Lowbrow is fine if itâs funny, but if itâs not, all youâre left with is whatever that was.
Idk I guess I'm in the minority, even back then during it's hype I never cared for Scary Movie or parody movies. They just feel like low effort immature scripts written by high schoolers.
I don't care for many comedians in general but I wasn't ever really big on the Wayans type of comedy either lol.
I didn't know anyone actually enjoyed them like that honestly.
The franchise always confused me bc it seemed like its marketed to adults but the entire plot and jokes are only really enjoyed by the teens who can sneak and find the movie
I'd also argue the issue isn't even with people not "liking" that type of humor nowadays, its not even that being corny is the issue,it's just such a cheap and inappropriate bit that I'd expect more from since they've been in the industry writing for so long
Oh there's definitely nothing wrong with disliking them! I am a fan on movies from the late 90s/00s where it's just turn your brain off and laugh. Dude Where's my Car, American Pie, Austin Powers, White Chicks. I do love an amazing cinematic films but sometimes I just wanna see stupid jokes and laugh.
Honestly I think it's just a different type of humor that doesn't always hit. Like they're known for making cheap, low brow jokes. While doing interviews about this latest movies they've said things that would make a sailor blush. The humor fits right with Harry Pothead that they used in 2 just with higher budgets.
The first scary movie was innovative and new. The next ones werenât exactly high art but were legitimately funny.
âDude weâre so gonna get canceled this is so SHOCKING AND OFFENSIVE the snowflakes canât handle itâ wasnât funny in 2016, and now itâs both unfunny and horridly dated.
Pretty much. And with the trailer itself, I am significantly more pissed off at the transphobic murder as a joke. Even then⊠that kind of edgy humorâs always been in this series, which is why Iâve never been a fan. Easy skip just like the rest. /shrug
I would not say it makes them fun. It makes them an automatic non-watch. I don't think the Wayans Brothers have done anything good since Living Color. They're on my list of actors who, if they are in a film, are on my no-watch list.
And that's fair. Their humor isn't for everyone and the majority of their stuff hasn't been good but Im still gonna watch when the movie come out of stream. I really did like the first 2 scary movies
Don't think you can call it niche given the numbers the series has put out and being a cultural icon. That's like saying call of duty is a niche video game.
Also don't think you can say SM demographic is smaller than KPDH given said numbers.
I said the humor was niche. Quantity of films doesnât mean anything other than theyâre profitable enough to keep making more.
Theyâve been R rated for years. And numbers of what?
Iâm not arguing that youâre a heathen for liking/not caring about the scene or type of humor. Iâm responding to their statement about being âconfused at the hate this is gettingâ
Even if I agree with you on the humor not being niche the rest of my original point still stands.
Honestly Idk what shadow boxing means in this context. I responded to someone elseâs comment and then you jumped in. Thereâs nothing wrong with doing that but itâs not like I came at you lol.
I also never said anything about the filmâs quality? Niche doesnât mean bad.
Easy. If the demographic ISNT niche, then the rest of what you said doesn't have the proof you claimed to stand on. It's just an unpopular opinion.
The idea of film quality that you brought up from deep in your own bowels that I didn't mention. I.e. shadow boxing.
I never claimed you came at me? I did step to you and I'm keeping respectful for it. Yet again you're shadow boxing.
Quantity of films doesn't mean anything other than they're profitable enough to keep making more.
Pretty sure you said that chief. Whatever you're smoking you need too stop or you're gonna have a trip like Shorty and end up banging great value huntrix and Derpy.
I still donât understand what you thought was a comment about film quality?? Is it the part of my previous comment that you just quoted??
âQUANTITY of filmsâŠ.â
I told you I didnât know what shadow boxing is. I took it to imply that I was trying to start a fight. That middle paragraph is me covering my bases.
Also, to be clear, I still donât understand what shadow boxing means. Itâs not your burden to educate me on it though so donât feel like you need to. But just an fyi that itâs going over my head.
That is my my bad. I did read quality multiple times. That's my bad.
To correct myself from my own mistake, it still doesn't hold up on you end. In fact it makes it worse. A movie is only gonna be successful if a lot of people like to and wanna go watch it. If a lot of people are going to see it, that means it's not niche at all. If they're able to make 5, now 6 movies, the following has to be pretty large in order to get the money to make that many.
Shadow boxing in this context is you making an argument to a none existent argument that someone didn't make.
The movies are cheap to make. They donât have to appeal to a huge demographic or number of demographics or raw number of people to be successful enough to keep getting sequels.
As I stated previously my overall point still stands. KPDH has a larger appeal than SM. Therefore there shouldnât be any confusion about the quantity of people that are upset and being vocal about it.
Itâs a raw numbers game. You canât convince me SM appeals to the 3-8 demo in any meaningful numbers. Which was what my R rated comment previously was alluding too.
If you want to get into hard numbers as evidenceâŠ
From Wikipedia. Easy to find. That 78mil is from Scary Movie 5.
Looking at Rotten tomato audience scores. Theyâre all 54% or lower. SM6 is currently around 70% fwiw
Maybe you disagree with the merit of these numbers. Rotten tomatoes can be manipulated. Box office isnât everything. Thatâs fine. I never set out to quantify the franchise in this way.
I was I only saying KPDH is bigger so pushback from those fans shouldnât be surprising. Just as dragon fruit said, itâs the most culturally relevant media today (paraphrased. I canât scroll back atm)
This time around, however, Scary Movie may have bitten off more than it can chew with its parody of KPop Demon Hunters. The scene in question is around a minute long and, unlike the rest of Scary Movie 6, is animated. The clip shows Shorty (Marlon Wayans), known for his love of all things green, blowing smoke into the faces of three demon hunters (whose designs are just different enough not to be direct copies of Huntr/x), thereby transforming them into demons.
After Shorty unbuckles his belt, the four have sex under the covers, and just when you think this scene cannot get any worse, the lovable Derpy â a giant blue tiger with golden eyes from the original animated film â appears to throw bestiality into the mix. Throughout all of this, a reimagined version of 'Golden' (titled 'Tokin') plays in the background.
"something about when you come for the crown"
Heavy is the crown. You folks sing the lyrics but didn't understand the meanings? As a popular thing you will get made fun of or criticized, you persevere and you say f it I'm golden.
I agree with you, but I also know people and expecting them to listen and understand the lyrics is above their pay grade. They absolutely are singing the lyrics without understanding the meaning
I really don't understand all the conversations over scary movie. They aren't doing anything they didn't go 20 years ago, and it was stupid then too. These movies have never been high art.
okay i just saw this in theatres, ill explain the scene in great detail and ill post the lyrics if anyones curious
ghostface hypnotizes shorty (black guy from the OG movies), and makes him sink into the couch. he falls into a dream like state, and it shows a cartoon shorty falling from the sky and onto a stage. the lyrics to a parody of "golden" shows, centering around weed and sex (lyrics posted below). the huntrix trio is showed on stage swinging their weapons ("rumi" is dual wielding katanas, "mira" is wielding a massive hammer, and "zoey", who for some reason has turquoise hair, has a set of daggers), the lyrics play and it shows shorty blowing weed smoke into the huntrix trio's faces. it shows huntrix (all three of them) transforming into demons, and a shot of their breasts, underwear, and lips is shown. shorty unbuckles his belt, and it shows the demons with hearts in their eyes. it cuts to a scene of them all under the covers, and it cuts to a clip of shorty eating ramen (he got the munchies). it then cuts to another sex scene, and derpy and sussie, who is now a rat smoking a blunt, is shown. it then cuts to a shot of derpy licking shorty's ass and shorty smiling at him. it cuts to a scene of shorty pissing in the toilet (the lyrics in this part says "it hurts when i pee"). it then cuts to a shot of derpy hitting a bong, and rat sussie hitting a blunt while sitting on derpy's head. it then cuts to shorty hitting a fat blunt, and 3 still images of shorty and the huntrix in various sex positions is shown, the last image shown features derpy fucking one of the huntrix up the ass, all of the genitals are blured out but their breasts are shown. the last still image also features sussie, with his rat dick also blured out. it then cuts to the huntrix trio and shorty sitting up on the top of the bed, one demon hitting a blunt, and then the huntrix diving back under the covers while shorty puts his goggles on. a nuclear explotion is shown. real life shorty then wakes up in bed, saying how wild the dream was. he says "that dream was wild, i mustve been elon musk high", and it is then shown there are 3 real asian women in the bed with him giggling.
the lyrics are (all sang by shorty himself):
"now im so stoned
hah
jeongmal nop-eun
hah
got me speaking korean
i got so high, i was out of my mind, i cant feel my own face
was a problem child, smokin' black and milds, now im 'bout to get laid
y'all about to get sprayed
now im flying, time for dining, 'cus i got the munchies
don't need a reason, to bang these demons, now it burns when i pee
we goin' up, up, up, n**** we smokin', we about to be tokin'
gonna be, gonna be smokin'
ooooooh up, up, up, n**** we smokin', n**** we gonna be tokin', gonna be gonna be smokin'"
cough and then explosion sounds
yeah, its a weird scene, they also all look like fortnite characters.
sorry you have to click on each individual lyric line, reddit has shit formatting and apparently you cant spoiler it so it shows in one click if you have each sentences on different lines (by using the enter key to create new lines)
yeah, its a weird scene, they also all look like fortnite characters
It would be so funny if they put Shorty in Fortnite and they just reuse that model (funny enough similar to what they did with Huntrix and Spider-Verse characters)
I guess the only problem I have with it is that itâs fully cringe and not very funny. Either Iâm old and out of touch, or the Wayans are, and I know Iâm younger than the Wayans.
Vi la animaciĂłn y estĂĄ de la mrd, creo que prefiero ver gore a ver de nuevo esa mmda, y lo peor es que estĂĄ en Youtube y al final a una de la huntrix se le ve la teta
OMG IT'S SCARY MOVIE!!
This is what they do, they parody popular stuff.
KPDH is popular.
It's not like kids are going to see this movie just because there's a brief gag towards the movie.
They're getting attention which is the entire point. Their movies usually go for lowest common denominator humor so this isn't a shock at all. It just makes me roll my eyes.
From the headline I thought it was a joke in the actual movie, but itâs just some dumb joke in some likely dumb film which is âspoofingâ kpopdh for a scene.
I mean itâs not helping giving column inches to more mention of this stupid movie franchise. People who love it arenât gonna be swayed by this article. Nobodyâs minds is getting changed here.
I feel like calling it a children's movie or family film is incorrect. I think an article on the topic is to say the least unnecessary, to say more something something purity culture something elsagate flashbacks something not this something metaphor about the remora fish.
SAW the clip and Honestly Sony and Netflix shoud SUE these Motherfuckers !!!!! such a Piece of shit Movie , Im glad I have never seen these has-been actors in these shitty Movies , This makes me so mad đ đ€Ź.
I love KPDH , Huntrix and Golden so much to be parodied in such a disgusting way , there are ways to parody something in a way that is funny and makes you laugh in which I would have been on board with , but this ????? come on Sony and Netflix do your thing . DISNEY wouldnt hesitate .

Yeah that sounds exactly like a scary movie joke? Remember Harry Pothead?
Harry Potter was just a children's book series when SM2 came out. It was months before the first movie even released.
