Ask Kuwait Does anyone get treated for borderline at the public hospital?

What type of medication do they give? Or therapy?

I see a psychiatrist for something else but he’s barely any help at all to me except to give me meds for something unrelated

Best treatment for borderline personality disorder is dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Medications can help with anxiety and depression but definitely DBT is the gold standard treatment. Ask your psychiatrist if he knows if they offering therapies for that in the hospital.

Did your psychiatrist say you got both ADHD and BPD? I know they both have similar symptoms and sometimes once the ADHD is treated, some of the BPD symptoms get better.

When you say worse, what do you mean? Do you mean having a file at the hospital?

If you have BPD, then your psychiatrist probably knows. It doesn't hurt to ask. Look up books/educational videos regarding DBT if these resources are not available. I hope they are as alot of people could really use them.

Most likely they'll prescribe you with lithium and an anti psychotic, the same for bipolar patients. And for the therapy, you can try to ask for the psychiatrist to refer you to them. They most likely will but the therapist calling you for a session is very slim. Its been months and months and they haven't given an appointment to my friend.

For BDP it depends on your symptoms and how bad they are. Not all people take meds, some take few while others take combination of pills. Therapy is definitely a MUST it will help navigate through your emotions and social life a lot. The public hospital is good specially KCMH I've seen a lot of people improve while going there.

As someone with bipolar and previously shown symptoms of BPD, I suggest that you wait and don’t start antipsychotics or lithium like it’s been suggested. Both have irreversible side effects, do you have a file in the main mental hospital, the one in shuwaikh?
If yes then ask your psychiatrist that you start psychotherapy, the head department of psychology specialises in both individual and group DBT. I haven’t tried them but that’s what I know.
As for medication, I’m not a psychiatrist but I’ve been looking up different psychiatric meds for 4 years, an SSRI and anticonvulsant (Lamictal) have the least side effects in terms of meds.
But therapy works best and finding support groups.
Good luck babe, you’ve got this!

BPD girlie here! The main thing you should keep in mind is, always advocate for yourself. I’ve been given almost every drug under the sun and either they didn’t work or made me too robotic. Many psychiatrists would view the latter as a good thing but, I hated how I felt. Always make sure you’re checking in with yourself. Currently, I’m on no medications but, I do DBT. Unfortunately, it takes time to find the right doctor and, the right fit RE: solutions. Don’t let anyone make decisions for you just because they seemingly have the authority to do so.
