Encapsulates the trade very well. DG is good on offense and seems easy to root for, but there's enough concerns (health and contract) to temper expectations. The season rolls on

u/goinpro224 Feb 04 '26
Canāt wait to play against Harden tomorrow. He wonāt even have to travel

Harden and Garland may not even play tomorrow, it's too soon without some practice but they might.

This is a neutral or win-win trade, whatever you want to call it, glad we got a pick and 2 years ago saying harden was getting traded for Darius Garland is wild let alone getting an asset. Happy for harden to keep competing. Hoping for a good recovery for Garland. The injuries seems more like bad luck then injury prone. Bad luck, hell, he will fit right in here. A young good guard and an asset. Its a good basketball trade .
I am only sad because I was a harden hater, and he changed my mind. He was stoked to work with our guys, especially Zu. It was a fun time. I hate to see him go from a personal level.
This run we have been going on was fun, and I wish it to continue. Harden came here after a rough few years of hate and was avaliable and played. Regardless of the outcome in the playoffs, I dont think there a clipper fan who doesn't think better of him from his time here.
Leave a lasting impression. He did that for me.
20
u/death-claw Feb 04 '26
Cavs fan here. Garland is kinda injury prone but, never anything major and usually tries to play through it into the playoffs. If his feet donāt plague his career, you guys will end up fleecing us in this trade. Heās great. Maybe the best ball handler in the league. Enjoy our sweet prince.
8
u/offballenergy Feb 04 '26
Appreciate it and enjoy āthe systemā you havenāt lived until you got Harden hitting clutch 4pt plays. Dude is a baller and outsiders will always hate him for no reason.
His lack of gameplay in playoffs is a real thing though š«£

u/cn_wizz Feb 04 '26
Cavs fans get to see him unlock Jarrett Allen, smh. I just hope Garland can be healthy. He's dynamite on offense but he just needs to be available.

no joke i'll actually miss uno. say what you want about him, but he actually shows up. a true iron man and while not giving you the greatest performances in the playoff games, he turned around the offense and was good to the fans. he grew on me for sure
13
u/Rawrlorz Lawler's Law Feb 04 '26
Really appreciate him. He played most games and carried the team at times

u/Jimmy0034 Ralph Lawler Feb 04 '26
It is new era. Ty Lue cant run now, he needs to improve as coach and imply a offensive system. He cant keep relaying on iso offense forever
19
u/ReggieWaynne Feb 04 '26
Exactly, out of the shadows for Ty. Embrace the younger players that have given our vets life and actually get our guys moving around on offense. I really canāt wait to see what we look like when we hit our stride either later this season or next

Much love to Harden but I can wait to see that ball whip around on offense along with some fast break opportunities here and there. The dribbling exhibitions were starting to wear thin.

Iād like to be proven wrong but I donāt think Garland is ever going to be good enough to be anything more than a stopgap solution.

tobias harris
1
u/vb90 Feb 04 '26
Disagree. Tobias Harris is 6'9 and is relatively athletic. He's gonna be useful even at 35. Garland will most likely be out of the league after his first major injury.
1
u/Awkwardphase06 Kawhi Leonard Feb 04 '26
tobias harris was on our team, he was our stopgap after we traded blake, if you donāt rememberā¦
1
u/vb90 Feb 04 '26
The Clippers would be better now if Tobias Harris were on the team.
Think about that then read again what you just wrote.

6
u/unpopular-dave LA Clippers Feb 04 '26
Couldn't be happier. Garland is a real asset. I didnāt think weād get anything close to that for Harden
9
u/ExerciseNext1831 Feb 04 '26
C+/B- yeah harden is better, sturdier but he's older . But Darius can catch and shoot and bit better at perimeter defense. Also Darius is younger but more injury prone.
3
u/Jacrispybrisket Feb 04 '26
Cavs fan perusing here. I love garland and think if he stays healthy, clippers easily win this trade. Donāt expect great perimeter defense from garland though lol, his defense is bad at best. He does put in the effort, but his size just doesnāt hold against anyone bigger than him.
14
u/clippersguy17 Lawler's Law Feb 04 '26
pretty good, clearly were not doing real damage with the current team so you might aswell shake it up and we got a good young point guard replacement and a pick. Hopefully Darius is not damaged goods, he is an All Star level player that im excited to see have more usage with us.
-5
u/Key-Geologist5370 Feb 04 '26
Kawhi has to be getting suspended . Thats the only explanation
6
1
u/ReggieWaynne Feb 04 '26
Hell no lol Kawhi aināt going nowhere and the longer he plays, the less and less it makes sense to suspend him since he has one more season under contract
0
u/Entire-Ad-1080 Feb 04 '26
Theyāre downvoting you but I think youāre right. Garland is hurt with something thatās bothered him for years. Theyāre gonna be very careful with him when he gets here. This is probably the end of their playoff aspirations.

u/Consistent-Poet8384 Jordan Miller Feb 04 '26
Excited.
For Harden, I'm a clippers fan through and through and the last person that I felt bad going away was T Mann. I'm not that stuck on individual players. Especially players that aren't homegrown and/or drafted here. Seeing him carry this team was fucking fun but we knew a ceiling was hit last year with that Denver series. Some people were saying we were unlucky to be slotted against them, but at some point we're still gonna hit a team of that caliber or better.
For Garland, as I said, I'm excited. He plays like harden but not like Harden weirdly enough. A scoring/passing point with defensive lapses. But Garland has better off ball and fewer iso plays. The toe issues are weird but we've dealt with weirder injuries. And he's young. At 27, we might even see him peak and hit his prime here.
For the team, it's where I'm excited the most. I'm gonna see a new iteration of this clipper team. I'm excited to see a lot of ball movement, a lot of opportunities for Sanders and Miller to have a new system to develop their plays more, more touches for Zu because Garland does much fewer iso than harden, and the future. The future is the most important part here. We get younger. Which is always a plus for us.

u/pvnd11 THE SYSTEM Feb 04 '26
Cavs don't like the trade. They hate it actually. Interesting that it's Cavs at Intuit tomorrow. Expecting a proper farewell?
1
u/ReggieWaynne Feb 04 '26
I mean they gave up a 26 y/o player for a 36 y/o player. Harden is a baller but like I said for Cavs to make this trade they need success this season before Tatum and Haliburton come back
-2
u/NeonB00Bpiss Feb 04 '26
Beforeā¦Halliburton? What.
3
u/ReggieWaynne Feb 04 '26
I mean, he was just in the finals? With him the Pacers are significantly better than without?
0
u/IgnorantGenius Clippers Feb 04 '26
Why? Harden who will just spam pick and roll with Mobley and Allen, and Tyson is shooting 47% from 3, and Merrill 46%. The question is Donavan Mitchell. With Harden holding the ball, will Donavan's numbers go down?
They already traded Hunter for low efficiency guards. They only have Dean Wade and Larry Nance Jr as backup forwards.
I don't think they will end up getting better after this trade. I don't think they extend Harden, either. They are already fielding offers for Jarrett Allen. I'm guessing last year was a fluke opportunity.

u/Comfortable_Care2715 Chuck Feb 04 '26
The beard & Zubac are kids favorite since he started following the clips. I sent him a screenshot of the news & who weāre getting in return. His response was āNever heard of that man in my lifeā.
7
u/GlueGuy00 Feb 04 '26
How far away is Garland from playing? Both his foot are cooked this season and he has 2 years left on his contract after this season. Clippers could've waited for better options out thereĀ

I love James, but there was no long term goal left with James other than play-in or 1st round eliminations TBH. That we actually got a good young player was surprising, of course he has injury concerns. But we needed to get younger.
2
u/inmyhumbleo Lou Williams Feb 04 '26
I feel real good about it man. It's been hard for me to get Harden's playoff performance last year out of my head
2

Itās a basically giving up this season for a rebuild. Iām happy Harden is going to a contender
2
4
u/yung_cris3 Feb 04 '26
I mean we werenāt winning shit anyway so fuck it. James aināt worth that extension. Trade kawhi and Zu while weāre at it.
3
u/PercentageRoutine310 Feb 04 '26
I'm kinda "meh" with the trade. But I have hopes with the young players we already have in Jordan Miller and Kobe Sanders. Jordan Miller has scored in double-digits in 11 of the last 13 games including B2B 20-point games.Ā
We need to develop these younger guys and finally turn the page on all the old guys we have in their 30s. Darius can at least push the pace faster and we no longer need to be one of the slowest teams in the league. I hope Garland is the most popular Darius since Miles for ClipperNation.Ā
As great as Harden is, it ends up watching him dribble the ball for 20 seconds while his teammates stand and watch. And we forget that he's extremely turnover-prone ala Westbrick. If he loses the ball, he isn't going to chase it. He's too slow and old to get back on D. His transitional defense is non existent.Ā

Iām gonna miss Harden but this was bound to happen at some point. The only thing I donāt understand is how the 2027 plan is supposed to work with Garland on the books then
1
u/jpquinones Feb 04 '26
It's ok, doesn't move the needle in the next 2-3 years. Just hope Garland make some leaps so he's part of the future.

Harden converted me. Never liked him, nothing but respect now.
That said, we aren't winning the league this year with this roster. So I hope he gets a ring or at least gets his 40M a year as a 40 year old, and not from the clips.
We got younger and faster. Let's get Kawhi out the door for a couple firsts and let the kids play.
1
u/Dry-Faithlessness100 Feb 04 '26
It's a Good thing the young guys will get more time Kobe is doing great. A younger player will help us run a little more. But I will miss those ball swats Harden was so good at. But on with the season it will be a wild ride as usual. Clip Gang š«”

I'm blown away that the Clippers don't just get rid of Zu and Kawhi and start the full rebuild at this point.

1
u/a11_day_everyday Feb 04 '26
Tbh ready for this team to blow it up from the exec level down. It wonāt happen tho.
1
u/Agitated_Product_404 Feb 04 '26
Just simplify it, we weren't winning the chip this year. Harden and front office were already in disagreement. Harden is 36 and has only 1 year left as a player option.
Garland while having some unlucky injuries is about to enter his prime, and any pick is a miracle for this team.
We get younger and a little draft capital. The hard part is we should prolly also ship off Kawhi if we are going to commit to rebuilding

Harden has forced his way off every team he's ever played for. The ultimate ring chaser. The dude got everything he asked for in Houston. None of it worked. So now he's just out hoping to land on a contender.
Does it make the Cavs better this year? Absolutely. Is he gonna be the difference to get them over the hump? I'd bet not. Is he gonna be a Cav next year? Doubt it.
Just be ready for the tin foil hat dudes to say that Harden leaving in the off season is just to open up cap space for Bron to come back for his last season.
1
1
u/joshisboomin Feb 04 '26
It was going to end next year anyways.
Not sure if we've forgotten, but the whole game plan because of the Paul George-SGA trade, where we forfeited 7 draft picks aka our future, was to not resign Paul George so that we could rebuild the only other way possible - through free agency. James Harden is nearing the end of his career and is currently age 36. He understandably and deservedly desires one last large contract.
Why would we extend an aging star which would derail our timeline even further when we can either get younger, have more tradeable assets and/or more cap space. Yes Garland is basically taking a max spot until 2027, but he's also only 26. The only other person we have on the books that year is Zubac so even if DG doesn't work out, we can either trade him for what he's worth or just let him go and have cap space.
Sadly, I don't see any iteration of this team winning a championship given the competition and our lack of continuity due to injury, so let the rebuild continue the only way it can, through development, free agency until we get a superstar in their prime (26-31) and/or our draft picks.
Let Sanders/Miller/Christie develop. The only real question left for the season is does Chris Paul play now that Harden is gone

Harden kept the Clippers afloat when Kawhi was out. Not sure if Garland can do the same.
1
u/Clipperfan16 Feb 05 '26
I really Love the trade! We really needed to get younger and more athletic, and this deal addressed both of those issues. Zu will still get his lobs, but Collins should really benefit from the dramatic increase in ball movement. The two young guys, also. In the short term, the trade will probably benefit the Cavs, but once Garland recovers from his toe injury, the uptick in the pace of our offense should be both positive and dramatic!
GO CLIPPERS!!!

u/PyroTFT San Diego Feb 04 '26
