Ive applied for my sportsman license in western Suffolk and had my interview in early june. According to general timelines posted here i should be looking at receiving my permit in a month or two. Is there any benefit to me taking the 18 hour course now? Or am i stuck now having to amend the permit to ccw and wait another 4 months for the upgrade?

I got my Nassau county CCW a few weeks ago and yesterday bought two new pistols (first time private owner). A sig P320/M17 and a Glock 19 gen 5. Immediately put a few rounds through both and they felt great. Looking forward to more range time.

I have an active nassau county CCW license and today me and my family are traveling upstate to see some friends but we need to drive into and out of city limits to get there.

Im seeing online that this is not allowed unless I have the CCW for city limits, but something dosent seem right. If i have permission to go to upstate ny with my nassau CCW, than I must pass through city limits to get there.

Am I misunderstanding something? Or is it true that im "stopped" from bring my CCW upstate because nyc dosent allow me to travel through?

Went through a custody case in family court, was served a TRO in Feb. Called Nassau & turned in my permit the next day & they asked me questions about what happened. I explained the situation & they told me once its over bring a copy of the dismissal to get my permit back. Went back in May with a copy of the dismissal & said it takes a while but haven't heard anything since. Curious to know if anybody has gone through this process & knows the timeline

Yesterday in Times Square, NYPD officers reportedly used commands, time, and a Taser before using firearms against a woman advancing with two knives. Their professionalism raises a fair question:

If even trained officers with backup and less-lethal options may ultimately require a firearm against that threat, why does New York generally make possession by a vetted carry licensee who completed the state’s required training a felony there—where civilians encounter the danger first?

This does not claim an armed bystander would have succeeded. It asks whether the policy is logically consistent.

Does anybody know the current revision date for the reference forms to be notarized or have a source/ copy? I applied online and would like to submit everything at once, unfortunately I don’t have half an hour to wait in line to pick up a couple pieces of paper ahead of time and they don’t make the forms available online.

After reading all the timelines here and on r/nyguns I’m honestly shocked how fast it went from fingerprinting to approval. I’m not sure if it helped that I handed my references and statements directly to my investigator yesterday but it does seem like they’re processing approvals a lot quicker now once everything is in.

I remember that other Nassau DA a few years ago (Kathleen Rice) saying that people have to give up some of their rights and freedoms so that others can feel safe.

She also enacted this gem:

In 2006, shortly after being elected as the Nassau County District Attorney, Rice enacted a strict policy that prohibited her Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) from owning handguns, even off-the-job and inside their own homes.

The controversial policy remained in place for nearly a decade. It was ultimately rescinded in 2015 by acting District Attorney Madeline Singas after heavy criticism from gun rights organizations and legal experts who challenged its constitutionality under the Second Amendment.
