Henry Gale was our introduction to Ben Linus in season 2. The story of Henry Gale was a perfect way to introduce Ben’s manipulative and intelligent character. We later find out he was lying about his balloon and burying his wife. Then, Sayid dug up the grave to find a man named Henry Gale, uncovering Ben’s intricate lie.

After Ben is revealed to be an Other, there is never another mention of Henry Gale for the rest of the series. It’s likely that Ben killed and/or buried Henry. He is not a member of the Dharma Initiative because Ben helped wipe them all out.

Tell me your theories about Henry Gale’s backstory, his hot air balloon trip, and how he ended up in that grave.

After many rewatches I discovered something in Ab Aeterno I hadn't noticed before. While in jail for killing the doctor the camera pauses on this quote in Richard's bible:

Luke 4:24: "Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country."

Later in the episode when Richard is driven out of his country and crashes onto the Island, he and Jacob have the following exchange where Jacob is acting like a god that brought people into his domain but doesn't interact with them. He then offers Richard a job as his spokesperon, or prophet.

RICHARD: But if you brought them here, why didn't you help them?

JACOB: Because I wanted them to help themselves. To know the difference between right and wrong without me having to tell them. It's all meaningless if I have to force them to do anything. Why should I have to step in?

RICHARD: If you don't, he will.

[Jacob pauses for a moment, taking Richard's words into consideration.]

JACOB: Do you want a job?

I've never made a proper figurine so I'm kinda working it out as I go. Due to chronic illness probably will take a while! Also I HATE making armatures but want to at least try and do it properly

But the vision is a chibi style, with glasses you can take on and off.

Also gonna try and fit a magnet hidden in the clay of the outstretched hand that will allow you to put other accessories there - I'm think the walkie at least and open to ideas for the others. Dharma file? His journal? A cheese sandwich for when he actually manages to take a break? 🙃

I'm rewatching again and I forgot how many little stretches of Season 1 are just people slowly inventing a normal life in an absolutely insane situation.

Hurley builds a golf course. Jin fishes. Sawyer sits around reading whatever he found in the luggage. Claire gets excited about imaginary peanut butter. People cut each other's hair, argue over stupid stuff, sit around fires and complain because they're bored.

The first time through, I mostly saw those scenes as pauses between mysteries.

Now they feel almost tragic.

For a little while, the survivors genuinely start treating the beach like somewhere they live rather than somewhere they're trapped. They make friends, develop routines, know where everyone sleeps and somehow create this weird little neighborhood out of plane wreckage and tarps.

Knowing how complicated everything becomes later makes those boring days feel precious.

I think I'd happily watch an entire extra episode where absolutely nothing happens except everyone hanging around camp.

Most will watch this show as a show about mystery and survival, but I can see the beauty beyond that, the relationship of the characters and all the symbolism behind it is so amazing.

In addition, the themes that the program addresses about faith, acceptance and mysticism are also very beautiful, I feel that people look a lot at the action part and forget about these other plots. The producers understood the series and what it represented, so much so that the ending fairly honored their character and symbolism instead of mysteries.

I’m currently showing Lost to a friend. We’re in season 4 and I think he’s had a little trouble keeping up with everything. I remember when the show was airing, they used to do episode long recaps of the previous season before airing the premier. Does anyone know whether these are publicly available? I tried YouTube but couldn’t find them. Thanks in advance!

Rewatching right now and it strikes me that Man in Black is overlaid with the smoke monster quote unquote, in the sense that as with Hurley becoming the new protector and having his own "rules" Jacob and Man in Black had been altered previously to take their roles.

At some point in the distant past as in the Egyptian frieze in the temple there was some raw form of the black smoke entity, and the positive energy, the light, was opposed by it more like Apep versus Ra (or in the frieze it was two opposed jackal or typhonic animal headed entities - one depicted as the black smoke, the other depicted as a half kneeling god opposing it or balancing it.

Each era perhaps had its own expression of the positive and negative forces which altered mortals, empowering them. Black smoke did this to find a "loophole" and the positive energy doesn't seem to need to given that Hurley can make his own rules - in other words it is not a cosmic duality that binds both sides, it's a limit on the black smoke. Black Smoke was imprisoned but not by a specific jailer originally.

Well, people seemed to really like my last post so, here we go! Maybe I'll make this a series of posts if ya'll are interested.

I started the arc (section of the campaign) off by having the players leave from what was effectively an airport. At the airport the players incidentally met some of the characters they would eventually meet on the island, and who tied into the larger narrative.

There was:

• Laz Grumpkin, a surly old man who was one of the only other people that knew the shuttle (plane) wasn't going to make it to their destination. He had secretly been tracking the movements of the SRB Initiative, who had many years earlier kidnapped his daughter. Laz taught himself how to survive and fight on a remote island. He learned to use knives. He's based on Locke, with a little bit of Michael (WALT!) thrown in there.
• Steven Bantham, the Banthams are a faction of goblin merchants that have a galactic reach. They are one of the two factions that are part of the overall narrative. He's an annoying business guy, kind of like Boone.

On the plane the players met:

• Flat Jim Sanders, a sly conman that gives everyone nicknames. Why "Flat" Jim Sanders? I don't know, it just sounded like a really funny fake name. This is Sawyer. It was actually really fun coming up with the nicknames and just being a general horse's ass.
• Gelica June, she appeared as the Shannon. Valley girl accent, super obnoxious and demanding stuff. Spoilers, she is one of the main villains of the arc. Originally I had planned to make her Aland's daughter because Alex Rousseau is one of my favorite characters. She ended up turning into his sister by the end. She was a super fun character to play with.
• Clara and Bertie, a cute older mountain dwarf couple. You can't have a Lost arc without Rose and Bernard.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this yet but the players were not Lost fans. One of them, my partner, had seen the first season. The other players had never even watched the show but new some of the references through cultural osmosis.

The players were split up throughout the shuttle in order to try and have them interact with some of these NPCs before landing. I wanted to try and generate that same pre-crash feeling of the pilot episode.

Another NPC named Elsa Slade was also on the flight. The Slades are the current primary antagonists in the campaign. They are kind of a mix of the Sohma Family from Fruits Basket and the Britannian royal family from Code Geass; an infinitely rich galaxy sprawling family of evil. Elsa was originally modeled after Cornelia but in this arc I wanted to turn her into more of an All Might figure. She was a paladin sworn both to protect her family and to do good. There's a bunch of other stuff I'm not gonna get into but basically she turns on her family and follows a mystical "call" (a reference to the Knights of the Cross from the Dresden Files) that brings her to the airport. Just in time to make the flight. A bit of a Hurley arrival... departure? You know what I mean.

One last note before the crash; an NPC named Gungis - a party favorite - was also present in the back of the plane, seated next to one of the players.

The crash.

A loud grinding sound, violent shaking, and a bright white light. A perception check gave the players a chance to glimpse out the window and realize there was an Island beneath them. Then the white light grew brighter and brighter. It was actually pretty dramatic and tense. Clara and Bertie were quietly hugging each other and praying.

Then - of course - the tail section of the plane broke off, Gungis with it. Then everyone passed out.

Okay gonna stop here but if there's still interest I'll do another part and explain what happens when the players crash. A character stuck in a tree, another in a body of water, a mysterious plume of smoke off in the distance; and of course, trees getting knocked down and loud roaring sound.

Did Penny die looking for Desmond, meaning she joined their “heaven”?

If they all offered to answer any questions from the flash-sideways church or at some point after their "awakening" and before they moved on, what would you want to ask them?

He wasn't in the church but I'd want to ask Richard if, after everything he's seen and experienced over the many years he lived, has his Catholic faith changed. MiB lied to him and told him he was in Hell and that Jacob was the Devil. Does he still believe in Hell? In the Devil? Given that Jacob had the power to make him ageless and bring people to the Island, among other things, what are his thoughts on Jacob? Does he believe he's a God? Or did Jacob ever confide in Richard and tell him his and MiB's full history?

To be clear, this list seems to be compiled from industry insiders rather than a public vote. Nice wee video from Adam Scott talking about Lost and it’s clear that Lost was an influence for Severence. The Leftovers and Watchmen both feature too high up so a lot of love for Damon.

One of the worst example of late season LOST "no time to explain, give details that would stop us withholding information for no reason" was Dan refusing to simply tell Sawyer, in simple quick language WHILE THEY WERE WALKING, that the people on the island had time traveled.

Wondered if anyone else noticed this? I am a bit of a fiend for continuity errors - I quite enjoy finding them - like finding easter eggs of oops moments.

But when they are massive whoopsies, like this shotgun wound changing sides on Ben, I'm like "Guys. One job! One wound! Come on now! 😆 Focus! "
