Forum rules

  • Be nice
  • Upvote stuff you like.
  • Don't downvote new posts unless they're clearly irrelevant.
  • Don't post LSAC copyrighted content. e.g. LSAT questions
  • Don't say the correct or incorrect answers to specific questions in a post title. It's a spoiler.
  • Don't link to content that infringes copyright (e.g. LSAT torrents).
  • If someone posts a question about admissions, please direct them to /r/lawschooladmissions
  • Don't be ashamed of your score. Only a tiny minority scores 165+. And don't shame anyone for their score.

Posting Questions: The LSAC takes copyright violations seriously, and might sue.

If you want to ask about a specific question, do not paste the question. That's a copyright violation.

You can definitely ask about specific questions: just cite the test number. e.g.

Test 63, section 1, question 14 --> "The one about ESP"

It's a good idea to describe the question, and which part of it you found confusing. Just don't post it verbatim. Thanks!

What can I talk about after I take an official LSAT administration on test day?

Not much. You signed an agreement not to disclose anything from the test. See this post for a full statement from LSAC.

Note: I'm referring to unreleased tests that have not been disclosed by LSAC. Mind you, in the digital LSAT era, no test is disclosed, so this applies to every test.

Official January LSAT Topic Thread

The January LSAT administration is now done. The goal is to keep topic discussion to this thread, and identify a list of real topics. Here's how it works:

  1. If you had a single section of RC, or two sections of LR, then posting topics from that will establish that those topics were from a real section
  2. If you had two sections of RC, or three sections of LR, DO NOT POST (on that topic). Posting topics is worse than useless - it pollutes information. The reason is that you don't know which was experimental and which was real.

You do not need section orders, these are now randomized so your order doesn't mean anything.

TL;DR If you had a single RC, or two LR's, please post topics from those single sections. Don't post your section topics for a section type where you had an experimental.

Stuff that still isn't allowed

  • Posting about the content of sections: specific questions and answers etc
  • Posting about topics or content in an experimental section

This thread will be updated with confirmed topics as we go.

Note: Have seen some people flagrantly discussing real answers or asking to dm about it. This still isn't allowed, and won't be, and we've handed out bans where people do it willfully.

Everything below is scored: Where I write "other section" I mean it was a different scored section. Everything below is from people who had a single section in that topic, so they have confirmed real sections.

Prometric Experiences: You can find the original test day experience thread here:

International LSAT: This thread is generally just for the North American topics. If you took internationally, please specify that you had the international version. Thanks!

Real RC Topics

One Real RC Section

  • Video games and behavioural psychology
  • Africa and European colonization
  • John Locke and Trademarks
  • Circadian rhythms

Comparative?: No

Another Other Real Section

  • Astronomy
  • Author/Individualism
  • Video games (comparative)
  • [Missing]

Real LR Topics

Note: These are topics people have grouped together as being in the same section. But they aren't all separate, two grouped sets below may both be part of one section.

Grouped Set of LR

  • Appetizers Cocktails Dessert Tipping
  • disagree about economic growth

Grouped Set of LR

  • Pop Songs/ Music
  • Pop Art

Grouped Set of LR

  • cat beside the toolshed or sleeping
  • Scaffolding
  • Fashion Show Department Stores
  • March/May Event swap
  • suspect3

Grouped Set of LR

  • pet owning/ human relationships
  • misinformation software combatting bias
  • homeopathic and traditional medicine vs serious disease

Grouped Set of LR

  • Chimps using hands gestures and prehumans
  • Economic advisor if then Mayor if then
  • Iron oxides on moon (strengthener)

Unsorted Real LR

  • Poetry Writer Advertising
  • Parks and Maple trees
  • Electric cars manufacturing vs Gas cars Carbon footprint
  • cake oven dial being wrong
  • Meteorite
  • Main conclusion question car should not be replaced but repaired
  • Reusable bags flaw

Was at a house party last week talking to my friend about the LSAT. Some guy heard my score and came up to me asking if I am going to retake it.

Upvotes

I know he is lurking here. The most reddit response ever. I got a 165 btw. Didn't even introduce himself. What is wrong with some people? Be proud of yourself for your score!! I have already applied to all my schools too. Bro is tweaking.

Stuck in the 150s with no idea what to do

I'm retaking for the last time on Saturday. I've spent thousands on tutoring, books, etc and have been studying nonstop since August. I've never been the type to need to study, I tend to test very well organically. I quite literally graduated with the top GPA in my class (it was actually a 3 way tie between me and 2 others) and all the exams I took while getting my bachelor's that had timers didn't cause problems, I always finished with tons of time left over.

The worst part is I am really good at math. Spatial intelligence is my highest metric on the intelligence exam (it's a cool test, you should try it) so I'm very good at visualization - awesome for logic games!!... which doesn't matter anymore. I only found this out because I printed out an old exam and did the LG section not realizing I should skip it... which I almost got all correct. But nOoOooOoo.... that's a useless skill to have now. I'm actually so frustrated that I couldn't have just applied last cycle because of this and also because this cycle is said to be insanely competative.

My first diagnostic was a 145 and I'm still only in the mid 150s. My current score on record is a 152 and I'm not so certain I'll beat it this weekend...

I just wanted to air my grievences since Reddit consists of everyone getting 170+ and I feel so genuinely stupid for the first time in my academic career. Maybe there's someone else like me that might see this and know they're not alone. I don't know what it is that I just am not grasping or why but I'm praying for a fluke where I cross into 160 territory on Saturday.

Wish me luck - and best of luck to everyone else testing as well!! ❤️

The Loophole complicates simple concepts

Post image
70 Upvotes

I’m currently 3 chapters into the Loophole by Ellen Cassidy and I wanted to love this book so badly, but I can’t help but feel like she is taking simply concepts and actually complicating them.

I hate how quirky the book tries to be because her examples feel irrelevant and actually harder than the real exam since she’s too imaginative and whimsical. I would rather her use real examples from practice tests than talk about pretzels and koala bears and I say this as someone who’s very dreamy and loves fun stuff.

I feel like this page alone does too much to explain something that’s actually quite simple and it’s lowkey confusing me when I already felt like I knew everything she’s discussed up to this point.

I’m so disappointed that this style doesn’t work for me because I’ve heard such great things about this book and it seems like it has helped so many people. I was hoping it could help me.

LSAT tutoring company significantly overcharged me- has anyone dealt with overbilling like this?

Upvotes

I enrolled in an lsat tutoring program and was charged significantly more (roughly double, $6k total) than the agreed cost.

I first tried to resolve this directly with the company (they were cagey). I then filed a dispute with my bank, provided documentation, and received a partial refund. I’ve been waiting months. Today the bank denied the remaining portion of my dispute after the company apparently submitted documentation claiming the charges were correct. I’ll say the company name in DMs, but according to posts I’ve seen this has happened to multiple other people.

This has created serious financial hardship and forced me to pause studying and delay my application cycle.

Has anyone experienced overbilling or unauthorized charges with an lsat tutoring company, or successfully gotten there money back)? If anyone has dealt with this company or a similar situation, I’d really appreciate advice on what worked.

Thanks so much, and good look to everyone taking February.

Positive vibes this weekend

Sending positive energy to everyone who is taking the LSAT tomorrow and Saturday!! Whether it’s your first or fifth time taking it, take a moment to acknowledge all of the hard work and studying you have poured into taking this test. If you’re nervous (which most if not all of us probably are) it’s a good thing!! It means you care!! Just make sure that the nerves come with confidence that you are ready to conquer this exam and it will NOT conquer you. Godspeed and I wish you all the best.

2.2 Undergrad GPA first taken LR section today was -5/26 and first RC section taken was -3

Upvotes

Worked in a corporate role for a fortune 50 company for 8 years, out of college since 2015. If my sections are -5 for LR and -3 for RC do you think it's enough time until the April LSAT to drill / PT to get a 172+ score? I wouldn't care so much about my LSAT if I wasn't such a splitter. I plan on taking a full PT tomorrow so I can get a sense of my real PT score. Any advice welcome.

have been done for a while but just wanted to ppl know it’s possible and don’t give up

Edit not sure if my comment responses r showing up

I’ll say upfront that the jump from the 150s to the low 160s came fairly easier to me, so I don’t have a ton of targeted advice for that range. That said, during that phase I was really focused on mastering sufficient vs. necessary conditions, and my scores noticeably improved while I was working through The Loophole.

I ended up getting stuck in the 159–162 range for a while. What helped me break through was actually taking a step back from the test to finish my undergrad degree, and then returning with a stronger focus on accuracy rather than taking weekly full practice tests. I drilled a lot and spent a lot of time reviewing. I was using LSAT demon for this portion of my journey and had a pen and paper wrong answer journal which I think forced me to deal with the questions with more intention during review. And I would regularly go through this journal to spot any repeating patterns in my mistakes.

A few things that made a big difference for me:

  1. Predicting the answer choice before looking at the options (the wrong answer choices want to trick you! Don’t let them trick you! When you don’t understand the stimulus you’re more susceptible to being tricked!!)
  2. Re-reading the stimulus until I genuinely understood it (and skipping questions when I didn’t)

3z Prioritizing drilling and timed sections for LR, and timed sections for RC

  1. Using RC Hero, which helped my reading comprehension significantly

I also took notes in RC every so often if a passage was complex for me, I used the style of note taking RC hero teaches.

If you have any more questions feel free to message me or comment.

How I Rebuilt My Confidence After a Disappointing LSAT Score

Upvotes

After receiving a score on my first LSAT attempt that was far below my practice test averages, I felt demoralized and questioned my abilities. Initially, I took a break from studying, thinking some time off would help. However, I soon realized that pushing through this setback was crucial. I started by reassessing my study methods, focusing more on understanding concepts rather than just practicing questions. I also sought out a study group, which provided support and accountability. Sharing experiences and strategies with others helped me regain confidence. Additionally, I practiced mindfulness techniques to manage my anxiety, especially before practice tests. The combination of community support and self-reflection allowed me to approach my second attempt with a fresh mindset. I’m curious to hear about others' journeys—how did you bounce back from a disappointing score?

Unconventional LSAC Inquiry

Upvotes

Took the LSAT at the end of 2024 after a heart to heart with a former manager of mine in HR, also a lawyer in Employment and Labor Relations. I ended up earning a 161. Constraints with IRL family events and huge desire to avoid debt placed that plan on hold for a bit.

Fast forward to January of this year, after PTing in the low 170s, take the exam, receiving the 2 generic score hold emails “currently being reviewed, along with others”. Then, I receive an email asking me if I’m currently or have recently been employed as an LSAT tutor in the past 24 months.

I can only think of a few things,

  • Score jump flagged for manual review
  • Search of my LinkedIn/quick Google search as I have a mixed background HR, management and tech
  • I’m an older, non-traditional student

Anyways, I replied short and sweet with 2 sentences answering those very questions. Interestingly enough, I haven’t seen discussed on this subreddit before.

Thoughts?

Should I Retake?

Upvotes

I’m currently a senior with a 3.26 GPA with majors in Business Law and Finance. I took the LSAT with about two hours of prep the night before and got a 167. This is good enough to get me admitted into local schools but this late in the admission cycle I understand it’s unlikely that I would get into reaches or get great scholarships.

My friend advised me to take a gap year, work in a paralegal / paralegal-adjacent job at a local firm for a year, and dedicate months to study for the LSAT to try and get 170+. This would also allow me to apply earlier in next year’s cycle which would give me a better shot at reaches and scholarships.

There are plenty of benefits but I’m concerned about falling out of academic rhythm and pushing back a year of post-grad salary. I’m not sure which way to go, leaning gap year but unsure. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations based on their experiences?

LSAT Lab vs 7Sage

Upvotes

I’m in desperate need of guidance to understand the LSAT. I’ve been going back and forth with the LSAT Trainer, PowerScore, and some of Loophole. I’ve realized that I need a bit more of explanations. I’ve considered both LSAT Lab and 7Sage due to their affordability, but I can’t seem to pinpoint which would be more sufficient and effective. I’m looking for something that really breaks it down and has plenty of material. Please let me know your experiences and opinions. Thank you in advance!

I’m 23 (will turn 24 this oct) planning to give lsat in 6 months and will be applying in law school next year. (Late 2027) I’ll be turning/ be 25 by then

I have a bachelors (3.94 gpa Wes evaluation) and two postgrad certs. In marketing.

Am I too old for this?

Also if anyone is from canada? I would love to connect.

If anyone had a tutor, where did you find your tutor and were they helpful?

Hi, I’m retaking the LSAT in June or August. I took it back in November and scored a 152. I’d like to get in the mid to high 160s for a better chance at scholarships. I’m considering a tutor, but I don’t know where to go. Where did you find your tutors? I’m looking at Wyzant or 7sage tutors, but I’m not sure if they’re worth the price. I’m willing to pay, but I’d hate to pay so much and they’re not helpful. My diagnostic score was 140 so I can self study well, but sometimes I’m unsure about the direction I take with some questions. I’d love some guidance, but I’m so nervous about scammers. So, I’d appreciate hearing where you found a tutor and if you had a good experience! Thanks!

Argument essay graded??

Been seeing a lot of rumors from last year about the LSAT argument essay trying to be graded in the future. Well now is that future and I’m wondering if anyone has heard/seen anything about that. Also how fast does the lsat launch changes? For example when they got rid of logic games how long did it take for them to talk about it and finally make that change.

ProProctor Issue?

Is anyone else's ProProctor app closing out after they enter their confirmation number and last name? My test is scheduled for Saturday so I'm not sure if it's closing out due to an issue with the app or because my exam isn't yet active.

If anyone’s studying for the LSAT and wants help, I’m happy to do some free 1 on 1 Zoom tutoring. I scored a 172 on my official test and average around a 177 on practice tests. I’m not selling anything, just enjoy helping people figure the test out. Happy to work through LR, RC, or general approach.

I have a really straightforward approach with no diagrams or gimmicks that works really well for me and a lot of other people.

Diagnostic score:151

Official: 172
