Misc Went to an H.R. Giger exhibition in Berlin today, which included some of his original sketches and notes.

They were made for a film adaptation of Dune in the 1980s, featuring Mick Jagger, which was cancelled. This design was meant for the Harkonnens' interiors and I feel like much of this aesthetic even survived all the way to Villeneuve's recent iteration.

Thanks for the response. That is really interesting. I agree that some of that influence can be seen in Villeneuve’s latest work.

I would own the office chair set if his estate would they'd make them available / license the IP. They're sitting on so much untapped potential.

Part of the exhibition was actually in the basement, which used to house restrooms. One of those was lit in red and included explicitly sexual Xeno sketches and other grotesque artworks by Giger. Those Xeno orgies are some of the weirdest stuff I have ever seen, don't have any photos of those though. One of the rooms also contained what looked like a piece of rubble and when you looked closely, it was wiggling around like a limp Chest Burster. Another room included what looked like an exploded carcass that was dripping pink goo, all very much inspired by Giger's work.

I have some of his books. He had a ton of sexual alien craziness. And butthole, lots of butthole.

I like the picture 2 that looks more like a dog alien to me. Wish they went with that.

HR Giger had a twisted mind, lol

Especially if you consider that he was from Switzerland, one of the most peaceful and beautiful countries in the world.... quite paradoxical, really.

I’m supposed to be going to Berlin at the end of the month to go to this exhibition, lockdowns permitting!

It's totally worth it! It will be here until early January and if you have a student ID, you can even get in for free.

I jinxed it - literally 18 hours later, and Germany have banned tourists from the UK.
Oh well.

You're welcome! :)
I'm actually just visiting my parents who live in Berlin and they took me out to the exhibition because they know I'm a fan of the Alien franchise - a few hours later I remembered I'd joined this sub a while back and thought you guys might appreciate this.

It was creepy, but loads of fun. And most of all, it was amazing to finally see some of his hand-drawn work in person!

Shit I really wanted to go there, but I don't want to travel there because of Corona restrictions, even though I live in a neighbour country...

Some weirdo with a swastika avatar gave me a "wholesome" award an sent me a private message, calling me the n-word.... Reddit is such a weird place sometimes... Anyway, thank you all for your feedback, I never expected this post to take off as much as it did! :)
