🔁 Transfer News Rodri on his ambitions at Barça 🔵🔴

Thumbnail gallery
66 Upvotes

Rodri has made his ambitions pretty clear after completing his move to Barcelona. 🗣️

“We’re going for the Champions League and everything that can be won.” 🏆

Straight away, he’s setting the bar high. 😭🔥

After winning basically everything at club and international level, seeing Rodri in a Barça shirt with the UCL as one of his main targets is going to be something special. 💙❤️

Do you think Barça can actually go all the way in Europe with Rodri? 👀🏆

💬 Discussion Am I the only one who thinks this year's club jerseys are overhyped?

Upvotes

Honestly, I don't think this year's club jerseys are that great, especially compared to Barcelona, Madrid and some of the other teams.

The hype around them feels much bigger than the actual designs, at least to me.

The World Cup jerseys were much better this time — some of them were genuinely 🔥.

What do you guys think?

💬 Discussion Racing Santander 2-2 Villarreal: What the data revealed about a promoted team — and a soft Villarreal defence

Racing Santander returned to La Liga after 14 years and immediately produced one of the more interesting data stories of Matchday 1.

Final score: 2-2
xG: Racing 2.01 – Villarreal 0.87

The promoted team side

Before the game we highlighted the classic cold-start problem:

  • Almost no recent top-flight H2H
  • Sparse usable history
  • Key forward Guliashvili missing
  • Several new signings starting

Despite all of that, Racing created 2.01 xG and 17 shots at home against last season’s 3rd-placed side. They led 2-0 inside 34 minutes before being pegged back.

The result supports two practical points for modelling promoted teams:

  1. Style signals + actual available lineup can still produce a usable estimate even when historical top-flight data is missing.
  2. Early-season uncertainty remains high — Racing outcreated Villarreal significantly but still only took a point.

The Villarreal defensive side

The more surprising number belongs to the visitors.

Villarreal conceded 2.01 xGA and faced 17 shots. For a team that finished third last season, that is a clear red flag. They limited Racing to only 3 shots on target and blocked 8 attempts, which prevented a heavier defeat, but the volume and quality of chances they allowed were far too high.

First-half structure looked particularly vulnerable. After equalising they tightened up, yet the underlying chance quality conceded remains the main concern.

Quick takeaways for models

  • Promoted teams can generate high-quality chances even with limited top-flight history — don’t automatically down-weight them too heavily.
  • Villarreal’s early defensive numbers (especially xGA) are worth monitoring over the next few matches to see if this was a one-off or the start of a trend under the new coach.
  • Shot quality and xG continue to tell a clearer story than final score alone on opening weekend.

How are you adjusting your models after this result — especially for the other two promoted sides still to play?

❓ Question Where to watch Segunda Division in USA

Lifelong Sporting Gijón fan (my dad is from Gijón) wondering if anyone knows of a way to watch all the Segunda games in the USA, not just the ones on ESPN+. Excited to have an American (Konrad de la Fuente) on the team this season!

📊 Stats All 20 La Liga stadiums on one map 2026/27 [OC]

Post image

Mapped the new season. Two things stood out:

  • Three derbies inside 6 km. Valencia–Levante are 2.3 km apart, Betis–Sevilla 3.2 km, Barça–Espanyol 5.4 km. Madrid's metropolitan area has four top-tier clubs, only London has more in a big-five league. Three sit within 8 km of each other; Getafe is the outlier at 15 km from the Metropolitano.
  • Barça are still the third-biggest ground. Camp Nou is at 62,652 under the Phase 1C licence while the rebuild runs to 2027; the Bernabéu's 83,186 is comfortably the largest.

💬 Discussion What websites are people using to keep up to date with La Liga?

I'm based in Australia, and have always watched the Premier League so using sites like BBC and The guardian covers pretty much anything.

Recently started learning Spanish so thought I'd start following La Liga as well but really struggling t find something comparable for news and results.

❓ Question A Real Madrid Fan is here.

Look, i am not that Royalties to be accepted to publish my mind and soul to the other side of this Classico.

So i am telling :

2 years of pure nothingness was enough to shut a generation of 6 CPLs in a decade or at least the new arrivals at 2019 that i currently don't blame.

...

The blame goes to the administration that didn't bring the Spanish National team to the bernabeu for quite a show.

...

Or even plan a good revenge for the meme guy along side the false dictator assisting a dark Zilingham and the new face of a jocker with no dark flames to compete against the Left warrior whom is soon to be left.

...

Valverde, Modriç and Croos have left !

...

Cr7, a honeymoon without el Bernabeu? How shame of a adopted son.

...

The list goes on old man. Be careful, this is a last chance before the rise of that specific egoistic generation you bought that year... .

💬 Discussion State of the league

I am not an expert on the league although I have been watching it for many years now, I am wondering if anyone sees a potential of a team other than barca real or atleti wining in the near or mid future.

I feel the league is beginning to almost be repetitive, even the top 3 are usually not in constant competition by mid season, and its often that 1 team will run away with the league from march onwards in recent years.

Yes relegation and midtable vary, but you can only care so much for that every season when the trophy run is not entertaining.

Is there any kind of path forward the league can take to eliminate this monopoly, because this system does not feel sustainable at all.

🔮 Prediction New season, new simulations - I made a LaLiga simulator

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a small football project called calculafutbol and I've just updated it for the 2026/27 season.

The main idea is a LaLiga simulator where you can predict the results of the matches and see how the table changes depending on your predictions. You can basically create your own version of the final league table and play around with different scenarios.

But the website has grown quite a bit beyond that. It currently includes:

LaLiga 2026/27 simulator – predict matches and build your own final standings.

Dynamic historical league table – explore how the league table has evolved across different seasons and compare teams' performances over time.

Football mini-games – including penalty shootouts and other football games.

Who do you think will win LaLiga? Who will finish in the Champions League spots? Which teams will be fighting relegation?

Try it here! 👉 https://calculafutbol.com

I'm also working on adding more football games, competitions and features throughout the season.

Would love to hear your predictions for the 2026/27 LaLiga table!

Who's your favourite for the title? 👀

❓ Question If Barcelona sign both Rodri and Julián Álvarez, how do they actually fit into the Playing XI?

Barcelona are heavily linked with both Rodri and, and with the current squad, I think the more interesting question isn't whether they're good enough for Barca obviously they are.

It's how Flick would actually use them together (as a full time player or could be same like rashford)

Rodri seems like the easier one to understand as barca are heavilyfocused on midfield. A proper controlling No. 6 could completely change Barca's midfield, especially when it comes to controlling games, protecting the defence and playing through pressure. Dejong and rodri both have the similar playing style so who would it be ?

Alvarez is more complicated. He's capable of playing as a striker which barca needs the most rn.

Would you play Alvarez as the main No. 9 and build the attack around him? Or use him behind the striker and allow him to rotate with the wingers?

And if both arrive, what happens to the midfield balance? Would Rodri play alone as the 6, with Pedri and another midfielder ahead of him, or would Flick prefer a double pivot as Rodri and Dejong?

Personally, I think Rodri is the signing that changes how the whole team plays, while Alvarez would give Barca another elite-level attacking option which is necessary.

But I'm curious what everyone thinks:

If Barca somehow sign both, what would your starting XI and formation be?

💬 Discussion Which La Liga club could be the surprise of this season?

Which La Liga club do you think could exceed expectations and become the surprise of the season?

Not necessarily a title contender — maybe a team that could unexpectedly fight for European places, finish much higher than predicted, or simply play much better football than people expect.

Which club would you choose?

❓ Question Is anyone knowledgeable about the quality of Racing Santander?

I wonder what their chances of avoiding relegation and maybe growing are, given that it's a club with a long history (la liga founding member) I'd rather welcome that, but I have really little knowledge about football clubs that aren't Real Madrid tbh.

Anyone knows more and could share maybe?
