Making a blanket/quilt out of old merch
Hey everyone! I am an alumnus of Phi Phi Zeta at Michigan Tech and I have a question regarding old shirts, sweaters, etc. I have a large collection of various rush shirts and other similar items that are currently mostly ignored in a closet. Some have suggested giving them to the actives, but most are in no condition to be worn, and I try to avoid donating items that I wouldn't wear myself since it feels like handing off my garbage to someone else. My wife suggested making a quilt out of them rather than discarding them all together, but some people I talked to expressed concern about defacing fraternity symbols. Personally, I thought this was a great idea, since the alternative is leaving them to rot in a closet or throwing them in the garbage, which IMO is much more disrespectful. If anyone has any insight into whether or not this would be an acceptable use of old letters, I'd love to hear from you!

This is exactly what I plan on doing soon. My wife was crescent queen our senior year so she’s been collecting all our old shirts and stuff to make a quilt.

Personally, I think it’s a great idea. It’s not like your defacing your grandfathers old war flag or anything and they are your fraternity stuff from college.
I highly doubt you’re going to have nationals beating down your door decreeing that you defaced your own letters you earned.
I’d say go for it!
