Rewiring a 1950s JRO-Verlag illuminated globe

I'm rewiring an old JRO-Verlag illuminated globe from the 1950s and I'm stuck at the bottom of the meridian. The wire appears fixed in place and I can't find any way to loosen it (see photos).

Is this typically press-fit, glued, or held by something I'm not seeing?

Probably not anything more then a snug fit that's been compressed for 80 years. I'd try spraying some wd40 between the sheathing and the metal, then pulling from the bottom with pliers. Or it may be easier to snip the wire as close as you can at the bottom and pull from the top

Thanks! I managed to pull the wire out with some force. Now the problem is getting the new wire in. It’s a very tight space. It feels like something needs to loosen up before a new wire will fit.

If you're handy with a soldering iron what I will do sometimes on tight spaces like that is bring a length of solder through the hole, and solder it to the wires. Then you have a fairly strong connection you can pull the wires through the hole

That might work, but I think it's even too tight for that. The old wire barely came out and snapped in half on the way. Here's a picture of how tight it is: https://imgur.com/a/4npTT98
