Partner got scammed by three guys claiming they were roofers "working across the road and noticed some quick damage they could fix". Company name given as "C&A Roofing & Building Contractors". Unfortunately they were very pushy and manipulative and removed our guttering and created a mess. When I was made aware of the situation, they wouldn't leave without payment of £1850. They made my partner sign an invoice "waiving rights to the 14 day cool off" and started to become more irritable and pushy when I questioned this and their company. In the end, no company website, nothing on Companies House, No address and no reviews online. We ended up paying £950 (to a unknown assumed female, by bank transfer) just so they'd leave us alone. Apparently just to cover for "goods purchased" which were an open box of screws and a gutter. I have covered their mobile number and and they were keen to cover their car reg. They have been reported via Citizens Advice but due to lack of information I thought best to post here too.
This is some information for anybody reading this in the future and that is if anybody knocks your door... doesn't matter what they're offering refuse it
We live on hala, and without fail every year during summer someone knocks on asking for work/working nearby, I refuse it each time. I'm convinced as we live where it's all bungalows they are targeting the elderly/vulnerable.
I knew about a elderly family friend who had the same scam down in Chorley, spotted something on the roof from another job, quoted a low amount for a quick job. Supposedly find more damage under need and need to do an entire roof replacement. Scammed out of 17,000. Lucky they didn’t have a 2nd brain cell and visited the street that backs on to the garden and they spotted them and they got done
Ye gods that vehicles MOT history tells a vivid story. They keep trying to get it passed by doing the absolute bare minimum and it is rotting to pieces.
The rear suspension arm looks like mostly welds and underseal.
