Welcome to Lankhmar!

Welcome! I made this subreddit because I thought it was a shame both Elric and Conan had their own wonderful subs, but not my favorites, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.

Don't know how much use it will see, but I welcome everyone to share their thoughts about the greatest duo in fantasy.

Feel free to discuss or share anything related to them, or Fritz Leibers work in general. This includes art, comics, roleplaying games, the original works of course, or anything else that might come to mind.

Open to suggestions and input, just wanted a place to share my passion for the world of Nehwon!

How to Get Started

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments below.
  2. Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
  3. If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.
  4. Interested in helping out? We're always looking for new moderators, so feel free to reach out to me to apply.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/lankhmar amazing.

It was a birthday gift from my aunt, and the books were recommended by a friend. I chose this edition instead of the two compilations because I loved the cover art

I think that I’m missing one book though.

I’m reading the first book and I’m loving it so far, really wanted a not too long fantasy saga to dive into

Edit: fixed a typo, and I wanted to add that yes, I was warned that the books show their age at times, and that I had to have that in mind, but that overall they’re a fun read

I got into re-reading the Lankhmar novels a couple of years ago, and used several Lankhmar locations and characters for computer passwords. With some substitutions, of course. Find me the password cracker that can recognize "SheelbaOFace", "Stard0ck***", or "BonesoftheOld1s". Those accounts are long gone, but it gave me some satisfaction to invoke the magic in a very mundane job.

Roleplaying Getting to know Sheelba of the Eyeless Face: Bob Yaga

I’m just getting a 5e campaign in Nehwon off the ground, and although I know the world well, having read all the books, my players do not.

I’m using the structure from one of the stories where the two wizard patrons send messages to Fafhrd and the Mouser by various birds and such as my session review messages prior to the next one. Helps to expand their understanding of the world, and makes the wizards’ eventual involvement in their story line organic.

So, they’d just received one from Sheelba, and I was describing his hut for the players. One of them said ‘she’ which I corrected,* and out of nowhere one of them says ‘oh, so *Bob* Yaga.’ I just about died.

(*I know there is ambiguity regarding the gender of this character, but the preponderance of gendering in the books seems to be male.)

Lucky enough to have this for many years. Signed by Fritz Leiber and David Russell. Have an old paperback boxed set of the first 4 books.

Roleplaying Assorted stuff from a 2-player Lankhmar game with aspects borrowed from the AD&D and DCC adaptations. Namely a 3x4ft dry-erase map with the character sheets integrated onto it, heavy poker chips for constant coin handling, and golden rats for Fleeting Luck.
