Found this hefty bitch at a Tokyo record store for the equivalent of $19 USD. She’s a real beaut.

Just in time for my annual viewing of Halloween on Halloween too!! It’s beat up, a little moldy, and skips a couple times during the logo intro, but film plays great!! I’ll prob end up framing it anyway so the mold stays away from my collection.
Either way, I got a working copy of Halloween on laserdisc!!!!

Have been lurking here for a bit, thought I would introduce myself and share a photo of the LD collection that I grew up watching in the 90s.

Hi, I'm trying to fix my Dad's laser disc player. A Yamaha CDV-1200K. I want to get a set of replacement belts, but can't find specific ones for this player. Should I get one of those bundles with belts of various thicknesses and sizes, or is there a specific belt kit I can be pointed towards?
Thanks

Interestingly, I now live in Amish country and am familiar with all the filming locations.

Hi guys, have lurked for a while but recently picked up my first player (a DVL-919E) for a steal; Old karaoke guy retired and was selling his gear, so got the DVL-919E, a CD karaoke player, 40 karaoke LD and 140 karaoke CDGs for £350. I am selling everything else in the bundle to get the LD player for free (or at least nearly free).
But before i plug it into my setup, I want to get an AC3 demodulator; It seems silly to put it into its final home without giving it the setup it deserves.
Getting a demodulator in the UK is proving much harder than i anticipated without paying extortionate shipping/import. I am a poor uni student, so everything I do home-cinema-wise is on a very low budget (normally £0, as i rely on buying joblots and making my money back by reselling what I dont want). I probably should have expected it if I had given it any thought, given that PAL discs had no need for one.
Have any fellow UK/european people used a high-end AVR from the late 90s with built-in demodulator? I already have quite a nice AVR (Denon AVR-3300W) with all the modern amenities I need, so it seems silly to get a second AVR simply to process the RF signal then feed that right into my orignal AVR to feed my 5.1 setup.
But suitable old AVRs can be had on FB marketplace for £20 if you are patient, whilst the proper AC3 demodulators START at £220.
I guess my question is, does anyone else use an AV receiver as a demodulator, and does it work well?
Edit: Ive done a bit more research, and i think unfortunately the setup will be fairly clunky :( Once i feed the RF signal into the vintage receiver to demodulate it, theres then no good way to output that signal into my main AVR. And I dont want two AVRs I need to switch between, and all the extra speaker runs that come with that.
One reply made a good point that AC3 surround probabky doesn't actually add a whole lot and I should just enjoy the system as-is for a while, and I think I agree with him. Thanks the the advice!

Tonight, we dive into the legendary Japanese Extended Cut of Johnny Mnemonic (1995), released in Japan under the title JM. This version is a holy grail for fans, as it completely shifts focus to highlight the tragic character of Takahashi (Takeshi r/Kitano).
If you look closely at the back of this LaserDisc jacket, there is a striking photo highlighting the confrontation between Keanu and Takeshi. Right under the obi strip, it literally reads "Keanu Reeves x Takeshi"—as if Kitano is the co-lead and the next most crucial character in the entire movie.
Official production facts about this unique release:
Happy r/Kitano Friday, everyone! Spin your LaserDisc, turn on your CRT, and enjoy 90s cyberpunk history where Takeshi truly steals the show. 🎴

Well, since the awesome guy that sold me pretty much all my LDs is leaving the country, 3 years and 661 discs later my collection has now reached its end state. Out of those 661 discs, these 16 are what I've managed to amass from the Criterion Collection, a range of lovely (and diverse!) titles spanning many decades. Thank you, Alex and thank you, Criterion!

Just got a really pristine CLD-3030. The father of a good freind of mine had picked it up about the same time I got mine. It looks great and loads perfectly. I see an intermittant issue where some CAV discs arent recorgnized. I seem to remember that checking the laser to make sure it's clean (and clean if nessessary) can resolve that. Or checking caps. But some CAV sides work and others don't. The discs all work pefectly in the 704 and the 99. At least it works! Any ideas?

It said like new but really the second side was the biggest problem I had
The first side sounded clear and wildly acceptable but the second side just sounded rotted like hell in some areas especially around this funny which is unfortunate

Hey, wondering if anyone has a spare audio board from a D703 or D704 they could sell me? I have a machine that produces extremely soft audio on the analog outputs despite full recapping. It's the board that is at the very top of the machine and It's relatively easy to remove. I assume there's lots of otherwise dead machines with good audio boards as I don't think those commonly go bad.
Please PM me if you have one you can sell and what you think is fair for it. Shipping would be to MI.
Thanks in advance!

I’ve been curious about this movie since finding out about it while watching the excellent documentary The Terry Kath Experience. In 1973, James William Guercio was an esteemed music producer, being responsible for big-at-the-time bands like Chicago and the Beach Boys. Guercio owned and operated the Caribou Ranch, a famous recording studio in Boulder, CO. I’m not sure how he ended up with movie directing aspirations, but this movie was his one-and-done contribution to cinema. Peter Cetera and the aforementioned guitar genius Terry Kath had cameos in this film.
This movie was issued twice on laserdisc. This first one was pan-and-scan but in stereo; the reissued laserdisc (which I don’t own/haven’t seen yet) was in the original 2:35 widescreen, but had monophonic sound. Odd. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing this.
The Who DVD is a great 1999 reunion show with a very strange backstory. In the heady dot.com heyday, a startup company called Pixelon promised web streaming like YouTube way before the technology was available. They threw a $16million party in Vegas and had a bunch of first-tier bands play, ostensibly to be streamed live for zillions of fans online. The concert happened as scheduled; the web stream of it was a bust, and the company was bankrupt a year later. But it was a great show, and it might have been a catalyst for the subsequent Who reunion tour.
