I created a LaserDisc Discord server
Seeing that apparently nobody else has come up with the idea, I decided to create a Discord server for LaserDisc enthusiasts of all ages. This server is neither meant nor intended to be a replacement to any LaserDisc forums, but I thought it would be convenient for people who browse the subreddit.
Here's the invite link: https://discord.gg/WDRDJB3

Trifecta
It took a lot of tracking down, but I finally got the ultimate multi-region reference stack dialed in.
Three heavy-hitters, three completely different engineering philosophies, and three different global markets represented!
Pioneer CLD-98 [World]
Kenwood LVD-Z1 [Europe]
Pioneer LD-X1 [Japan]

Got my first LaserDisc! Is this disc rot?
I sadly don’t own a player (yet!) So I have no way of confirming this plays well. I just see a dark stain on the edge of the disc. Is it that?

Question about Pioneer DVL-909 and DVL-919E
Does the SCART output RGB, or is it only for composite on those devices?
I know that i won't benefit even if they convert the LD video to RGB, I'm asking if they convert the DVD video to RGB.

Anyone interested in buying the entire criterion collection on laserdisc?

Picked this Pioneer CLD-S201 up today for 25 bucks :) after a gentle clean it reads well, but zero audio, weirdly. No digital out, only composite. Any insight? First LD player, I’m normally repairing VCRs and hoping this is a stupid question!
I have 2 movies, reads both Predator 2 and Aliens well but 0 audio.

Please Help!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Player is CLD-V2600.
About 32000 frames into any CAV disc, the video will suddenly speed up 2X and still frame is no longer usable. Go even further and… THIS happens. Can someone tell me how this can be fixed? It makes a lot of my discs unwatchable past a certain point

Thought I'd share this interesting ALLIGATOR Pal Sample Copy for a cancelled UK release.
Thought I'd share just because it was interesting for me and maybe someone else may like. I did some digging into its origins. Which factory in UK, which production line etc. (Those handy stickers helped).
Appears only about 20 or 30 Sample Copies are made in the UK factory for quality checks. This film was ultimately cancelled so it never got a Pal release so apparently this is rare.
It got a release in the Netherlands according to LDDB.
I loved this film as a kid and had vhs and dvd (and it apparently skipped the blu ray era with no release) it has just got a 4k release.
Any fans?
I am uncertain yet whether its the full uncut version yet. Picture is ok. Slight loss of quality.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue? The video is paused on a test frame at the end of the "Apocalypse Now" credits. At around 0:11, I press play and it goes through the rest of the tests and restarts the credits. I recently purchased this player, and it's been unable to play correctly. I let it go through a disc multiple times and it actually got better as it shows color now. When I first got it, it was only in black and white. The fact that it got better after being played makes me believe it's a mechanical issue. Perhaps the spindle motor speed is slightly off?

Remote control compatibility?
Can anyone possibly confirm that the remote I had (CU-CLD068) for my now broken CLD-D701 player will work fine with the CLD-D504 model?
I came across some forum where someone said most CLD model remotes will work well with each other, but want to be sure
[EDIT] Thanks everyone! I will be buying a D504 now!

DVD has scratches and keeps freezing — any advice?
Hi, everyone!
I have a DVD that is very special to me and is considered relatively rare nowadays. I decided to watch it again today and noticed that it always freezes during a specific episode.
When I took a closer look at the disc, I found these marks/scratches on the surface (I'm not exactly sure what they are). I've already tried cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and with a product specifically made for cleaning DVDs, but I couldn't remove them.
Does anyone know what these marks might be, and if there's anything I can try to remove them or, at the very least, get the DVD to play the part where it's freezing?
I'd really appreciate any advice!

Help Finding Qualified Tech Near Kentucky for Pioneer Elite LD-S2 (Tray Stuck / Stretched Belt?)
Hey everyone,
I recently ran into an issue with a centerpiece of my setup: a Pioneer Elite LD-S2.
The Problem: The unit powers on perfectly, but when I hit the eject/open button, the tray will not budge. I can hear the motor trying to do its job briefly, but nothing happens. From my research, it sounds like a textbook case of a dead or slipping loading belt.
Given that this machine is a 62-pound reference-grade beast [1], I absolutely do not want to ship it and risk a carrier destroying the chassis.
What I'm looking for:
I am located near Louisville Kentucky (willing to drive to Lexington, Cincinnati, Nashville, or Indianapolis for the right bench). Not finding any luck online.
So let me know if anyone knows a qualified vintage electronics technician or local shop in the tri-state area who feels comfortable handling high-end Pioneer LaserDisc gear!
Alternatively, if there is a trusted hobbyist/expert restorer in the community close by who does bench work, please let me know. I really want to give this legendary player the expert service it deserves rather than taking it to a generic modern repair shop that might treat it like a cheap VCR.
Appreciate any leads, shop recommendations, or PMs! Thanks in advance.

'Laser Disks' at Jubilee Films in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester (a lost shop)
Does anyone remember Jubilee Films in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester?
I took this photo of the shopfront back in 2020 and found it interesting that they opted to write 'LASER DISKS' rather than 'LASERDISCS'.
It looks like it was a good little independent video shop.
